First a disclaimer - I'm not an MS apologist - it is amazing however to see the vitriol that flies whenever MS makes moves to try and be more open - sure they're a big business that looks out for number one but that doesn't mean that everything they do is evil give 'em a break guys!

Ben I would love to belive in that, but unfortunately I cannot. Just take a look on why are they are doing this in the first place... They had to, in order to make the BRM on OOXML end as it did, and all that process of trying to aproove OOXML as an ISO standard, by itself, shows well what they really want regarding to documents, standards and interoperability...

I think you missed the point. If MS "makes moves to try and be more open", then I'm happy with it. I just don't believe that this is a case where they're trying to be more open - at all.
