This is superb. I just showed it to my 5 year old son who enjoys Lego and has already taken some great photos, including one or two of his toys. So now he has the seed of the idea that, in time, he could take multiple stills and put them together to make moving pictures. Thank you very much for posting it and giving me and him that opportunity. Maybe, he might use FriendFeed one day too! - John W Lewis
Great project! - Anne Bouey
AWESOME! - Kevin Fox
I think they need to make a full stop-motion version of the Matrix in legos. Now THAT would be awesome. I wonder what bullet-time looks like in LEGO? - Bret Taylor

Khosla Ventures Leads $5.6 Million Funding For MyLikes; Buchheit Joins Board
"Khosla Ventures likes social advertising startup MyLikes. The VC firm is leading the startup’s $5.6 million Series A financing. Lightspeed Partners also invested and Metamorphic Ventures, which participated in the all-Googler $600,000 seed round, ponied up again. Additionally, seed investor Paul Buchheit is joining MyLike’s board of directors. Buchheit, the creator of Gmail and founder of FriendFeed, recently left Facebook to become a partner at Y Combinator (although MyLikes is one of his private investments). Alex Kinnier, a partner at Khosla Ventres and formerly a Google advertising product executive, is also taking a board seat." - Paul Buchheit from Bookmarklet

Testing out a Twitter retweet using Favorites. First, import your Twitter Favorites into FriendFeed as an RSS/blog feed, using a URL like http://twitter.com/favorit.... Next, tell FriendFeed to post your imported entries to Twitter via http://friendfeed.com/setting.... That's it.
Once done, in Twitter all you have to do is Favorite something (the star that no one uses). This will get posted in your Favorites RSS feed which will be imported into FriendFeed. Then, FriendFeed will post this to Twitter and will look something like: lancearmstrong: @taylorphinner breaks the US record in the "kilo" going 1:01. As he says, "slayed it". - Mike Reynolds
Hootsuite will allow you to import RSS in a similar manner and will poll X number of updates per hour (where you can specify the number X) in addition to allowing you to pre-pend additional notational text in front of the tweet (so you can add "RT" for example) - Chris Aldrich
I recently started to play with my favourite Twitter feed using Yahoo Pipes with the intention of feeding it back to my Twitter account. I used Pipes to add the suffix '#fav', but didn't take it any further. - Chris Marshall
Very cool Chris and Chris. - Mike Reynolds
I'm doing this as well Mike - Thanks for the tip - Bwana ☠
Problem with this is it will add the ff.im link to every tweet. Maybe a better way would be to use a service like Twitterfeed? - Pat Hawks
I don't mind the ff.im link because I want people to come here to discuss it - Bwana ☠
I wish the delay were't so long...you lose the instant feel - Bwana ☠
Does this happen automagically? Can I favorite something on Twitter, and have it autoretweet? Is that the point of this exercise? - Mike Shields
Yes Mike, that's the idea - Bwana ☠
ok, that's huge. - Mike Shields
Still having a little problem with this. How do I create the RSS feed itself? - Mike Shields
just an FYI @Pat Hawks: you can't use twitterfeed to post back to twitter from your twitter favorites feed.. "Twitter does not allow posting of twitter feeds back to twitter..." is the error message provided by twitterfeed - its too bad because twitterfeed gives you the option to prepend RT: if you could get it to work.. I suppose you could pipe the feed then use twitterfeed to circumvent the restriction - Bill Rawlinson
kool. i am gonna set this up for myself. thanks! - (jeff)isageek
I set this up but the retweet didn't happen the way I wanted it so I created a pipe at yahoo pipes to help http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes... put your username in the field, hit "run pipe" then click the "get as rss" link and use the address it takes you to as a service here.. then reshare that service to twitter.. It will prepend the retweeted item with RT: @ so that the original author is cited as normal and the RT: label is present. - Bill Rawlinson
Not seeing how to reshare to Twitter automatically... :( - Mike Shields
Thanks a lot like it - Geris
Is this still working? Mine doesn't seem to be pulling anything in at the moment. ( using http://twitter.com/favorit... ) - Chuck Kahn
Okay, now it's working again. - Chuck Kahn

Facial discrimination? - Jason
Impressive. - j1m
Can I get one for the body as well as the face? - Dion Almaer
Very interesting. Hope they post the download link soon so that we can all play with it. - Brady Brim-DeForest
It seems as if the main problem with most people in the examples shown is their forehead is too short or too narrow. Wonder if there's a subtle clue that big brains are beautiful there! :) - Lindsay
@Jason - that's an interesting concept. Would you be more likely to trust the girl on the left or right? Would you be more likely to talk to either one of them at a party (or more intimidated by either one?). - Lindsay
Right one looks more dumb... - philsmirnov
Notice that for all the women they soften the jaw, while squaring it for men. Everyone also gets a slightly thinner face and upturned almost smiling lips. - FFing Enigma
@SB yeah and the forehead adjustment... almost like there is a triangle with the forehead at the point and they flip it so the chin is the bottom of the triangle... weird. - Lindsay
They are different women! Blame Paul! : ) - Erhan Erdoğan
impressive - accexine
Lindsay: whenever sketching generic faces, the face starts as an inverted triangle and the eyes appear a third of the way down from the top of the forehead; lips and nose appear below and above (respectively) a line 1/3 up from the chin. Looks like these pictures are rearranged to meet that particular school of drawing. - FFing Enigma
That is interesting yet odd. Seems that the faces are slendered with the software. - Jim Goldstein from twhirl
I wonder what would come out of applying their algorithms to face of black or asian person? Different countries have different concepts of beauty. - arty
This technology should be made available in eye glasses, just imagine how much better your work day can be! - Claude Betancourt
Paul - Think you should definitely add the option. "Click here to be beautiful without the expense of plastic surgery! .... and you may even get more 'Likey's" :)" - Charlie Anzman
Some of the stuff coming out of Siggraph this year is really freaky. How about combining this with the automatic video editing stuff? ;) - Joe Beda
without a doubt amazing. It's incredible how subtle the changes are yet massive difference. - Zee.
Huh, that's pretty crazy. Creepy, but cool. :) - felix
I haven't read the paper, but I wonder if it adapts to different notions of "attractive" (that changes from culture to culture ...) - Rui Pires
+1 @Claude I was thinking the same thing! Incorporate this software in wearable monitor glasses, and the whole world would be beautiful! I'll bet we can look for these on the shelves in the U.S. just before November. Social media and reality enhancement software have put Winston Smith out of a job. - ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
do i sense another manga-style meme starting? - anna sauce
So, if it turns me into Gilbert Godfried... what does that mean? - Ⓒⓗⓡⓘⓢ Ⓟⓘⓡⓘⓛⓛⓞ
You know, if these guys had gotten together with the realtime video+photo enhancement folks and approached the Beijing Olympic Comittee then that singing girl in the opening ceremonies might not have had to been replaced with a body double. (Yeah, I just brought three of this week's biggest memes together. I'll be here all week.) - Kevin Fox
The artist proportions were laid out by the Greeks as the perfect human, that's not being used here. This beautification engine, I think, builds on top of a previous study where some students tried to mathematically identify attractiveness. They had participants rate the attractiveness of head shots from yearbooks. What they found was there was a high correlation b/w the geometrically "average" face and high attraction. That "average" is based on the proportions of the di - xero
stances between the individual elements of the face and their relative sizes. IIRC the software adjusts elements so they statistically/geometrically complement each other. It's not actually working toward a golden set of proportions, but a set of proportions appropriate for the individual as defined by the masses. I wouldn't think of it as "facial discrimination" so much as "deviation from ones potential". - xero
I'm waiting for the first Facebook application that automatically enhances your profile picture like this. Every social network should run this on the avatars. Beautiful people! - Benedikt Koehler
Can you imagine the controversy if dating sites got a hold of this? - xero
@paul automatically apply it to all profile photos, huh? are you sure you ready for results? check my picture - try to see wonderful cossacks writing infamous letter to Turkish Sultan :) - A. T.
I wonder if they'll turn Mickey Mouse into Mighty Mouse - Dave Q

I am looking forward to playing board games on the iPad while travelling with Karen. This is the first device I can really picture two people using at the same time, which seems like an opportunity for some truly new types of software.
With mice and keyboard, two people at the same time on the same device doesn't really work well. Touch screen seems like a really cool opportunity. - Bret Taylor
I always wanted something we could use for a board game on an airplane in particular. - Bret Taylor
Oh yes. Great idea - Johnny from iPhone
oh! 2 player touch screen air hockey!! - Nathalie
I thought to myself I could have used this when I would play chess with my little brother, and he would get mad and sweep the pieces off the board. I figured it'd be pretty difficult to do that with an iPad. Then I realized what he could have done to the iPad... - MiniMage, enterRUPPted
Yeah - I keep thinking of how popular this is going to be on road trips with the family - Jesse Stay
Taking turns. Like handing a crossword puzzle or magazine back and forth. Plus a swipe for changing posting accounts. - Hayes Haugen
Does this mean you're getting one? - Shannon Jiménez
Shannon: yep, definitely getting one. If for no other reason than to write a couple apps for it. - Bret Taylor
Bret, same thought here - I can think of some uses, but as a developer I want a new toy to play with and innovate with :-) - Jesse Stay
Cool-- that means I get to play with it :) - Shannon Jiménez
Is it just me or does that still seem a bit small for two people to have their hands on at once? - Richard Lawler
You know. I totally missed this use case. I don't play board games enough, so this would be great for me. - Roberto Bonini
I don't know who the makers are of touch-screen tablets that already do this, but I've seen one in action: http://ourdoings.com/brlewis... - Bruce Lewis
Chess, checkers, go, Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly, chinese checkers... and I think it will also be a great platform for war games. - Brome
So do i brome. BRING ON RISK - Roberto Bonini
So instead of iPhone Mega, it's Surface Mini? - ⓞnor from Android
^LOL - LANjackal
You're going to drive that accelerometer nuts with two people, you know that don't you? :) - JCunwired
SMART idea - that's why I like you - out of the box - excellent eye for various use cases - neat! The iPad has a lot of potential. I have been wanting what I call an iCouch tablet for web viewing, this i really great. I can't wait till i get one! - Susan Beebe
Nathalie, air hockey was my first thought when they said it worked with two people. That would be cool. - Todd Hoff
Wow that's true- I didn't really get the iPad until I thought of 2-player games. Now to develop Catan for the iPad. - anna sauce
Will be awesome for board games. - Scott Cederberg
Todd and Nathalie, an air-hockey type game (maybe more like Pong) is what people are playing in the photo I linked to in my previous comment. I sympathize with whoever the manufacturer is, in that the perception is that it doesn't exist until Apple ships it. - Bruce Lewis
Hey I want an I pad, but they said the 3g version isn't available till April, mmmm. How can I get one sooner??? - amelia arapoff
I have to admit it's a wee bit more portable than Microsoft's Big Ass Table™ - Richard Walker
Never thought of this possibility. For the first time I can begin to see myself possibly even buying one - assuming the software is there to make it worthwhile. - Andrew Perry
Share option of friend-feed cost me a call from my wife yelling at me "who the hell is this Karen you are playing with on the train to work? I am gonna kill you both!" She simply saw it on my facebook feed never realized it is a FW. (http://friendfeed.com/tzury...) LOL - Tzury Bar Yochay
not sure about this, the form factor may still be too small to be comfortable for two players simultaneously looking at it, or touching it. Now with blue tooth connexion between two iPads, I would see lots of opportunities for boardgames, including games where each player need to keep some information secret (his hand of cards usually). - Antoine Bertier
Hmm nice idea. Checkers, Domino, Backgammon would be all excellent - Özkan Altuner
I just downloaded SDK and am working with another programmer on the Catan version. Bret you inspired me! - anna sauce
