We brought it inside for the fall/ winter and it seems to have these black things all over the outsides of the blossoms. They're oval and shiny, like little black footballs - look like seeds or legless insects. Buds seem to have brown stuff, as if they were dusted in fry peat moss.

Other than this scmutz and some leaf yellowing, the plant seems healthy - it turns toward the sun and is making new flowerbuds.

I'm sorry, Mary. You and your family are in my prayers. I share your loss. Tomorrow is the viewing for my mother and Sunday is her memorial. You will be in my heart and prayers then also.

I've been so wrapped up in my own messes that I completely missed this. I'm so sorry for your family's loss, Mary. I hope yesterday's service was beautiful...

My condolences, I can't imagine what you're going through.

Funeral's over; people have left except SIL and BIL who are staying here. Tomorrow: Early tennis, a nice lunch with cousins who are still in town, then time to figure out my father's next living situation. Tuesday: Back to work.
We're back. Saw Mother for the last time; set plans for the service in motion with the rabbi. Have a couple more close friends to email. Sarah comes in tomorrow afternoon.
We're having an ecumenical service for a long-lapsed Catholic in the temple where her husband of 51 years (my father) was just bar Mitzvahed. Most of her side of the family is still very devout.

I hope it all goes well, Mary. Ecumenical services can be wonderful, and I'll say an Eternal Rest for your mother, you and your family.

has lost her mother, Jean Baum, CKD, age 85: a TV pioneer in the 50s, she'd reshape the kitchen biz in the 70s-90s. A great loss.
My mother-in-law's drop earrings. SIL Kathy gave them to me. The backs are the screw kind, so they can't get very loose without me noticing. (and taking these earrings off is a highly deliberate act. Only happens for dental panoramic X-rays and MRIs of my head.) From my phone

We have a rider on the homeowner's policy for all these pieces, but I supplement that with the COME/F policy: thieves will just have to cut off my ears/ fingers to get the ice off me.

Not that the exclamation point is appropriate. Foursquare added that.

Hope you are able to rest and take care of yourself. Thinking of you and the difficult time you are going through.

Mother's vitals are stable. We're taking some time away from the hospital this morning. In spite of a good night's sleep, I sat down at my desk and realized how simply exhausted I am . . . how Bill and Tracy and Mark must also, certainly, be - utterly enervated.
Mary, *HUGS* I missed your updates but my heart goes out to you for the situation you're in. I hope that you get some respite from it soon in the most peaceful way possible for all involved.

I'm glad you are taking a little break away. You need some space and definitely need space. My hubby is a Palliative Care nurse and when people are stable they encourage family to get some rest and some head space. Try to sleep if you can and all the best.

For now, when people ask how I am, I just say, "Stupid." Like my mother, we're all living in a state of suspended animation. Time has stopped. Life is reduced to a set of numbers: heart rate, BP, blood oxygen. They tell us nothing.
Friendly****** You would rather hang out with others than spend time alone, and you'd far rather be doing something with your friends than just sitting around. You're happy in a crowded room, club, stadium, or auditorium. You're not a private person who is ill at ease in a group; you don't view excessive socializing as a waste of time.****** Innovative******* You come up with a lot of ideas; if one doesn't work out, there's always another waiting in the wings. You often have interesting solutions to difficult problems. You're practically a one-person brainstorming session. You are less interested changing the world than in dealing with things as they are. Unlike those who spend all their time trying to solve problems, you prefer to zero in on things that work and stick with them.******* Intellectual******* You are thoughtful, rational, and comfortable in the world of ideas. People find you interesting to talk to. You're the living embodiment of the saying "You learn something new...

This is the top ten traits, and they seem to be mostly compliments. The criticisms seem to be buried in the other 80 of the 90 traits. Selling strategy perhaps? This makes me look like a saint/creative genius/guru of some kind, and posting it looks very self-serving. NOT COMFORTABLE playing this game that way.

Then there's this: "People with a high score on the "creative" trait often are employed in such fields as finance and scientific research, . . ." Yes. Those are exactly the fields in which I want people making shit up.
