Go with names and use social media sites. You can let people know how you feel about them when you put them at the Klout, Orkut, and Myspace tables.

Names. Literary classics - somewhat witty but totally nonoffensive. You can get edgy by including Vonnegut and James Joyce.

I was about to say what Katy did. Library cataloging numbers. We did ours from a deck of cards so it was kind of names and numbers. i.e. 10 of Hearts. Though we did mostly face cards.
