I am so blogging that, Jeff. thanks. :-) - Chris Baskind
Tried to buy this on eBay and there are a ton of sellers with photocopied versions - but few originals. So far as I can see it's out of print. With good reason. - Wayne Schulz
Wayne.. so you saying there is nothing available but shit copies? And with that people, I bid you goodbye for a few hours :) - John Worthington
his 'desk' story was one for the ages. - Carlos Ayala
He actually said that about the "elite media" but I thought that meant all those Twitter users who have been talking crap about Palin the past three days. - Robert Scoble
Maybe he was talking about FriendFeeders. :-) You all are pretty elite, if I have to say so myself. - Robert Scoble
Uhm... the desk story was sort of ridiculous. - Ricardo Vidal
So you're saying Twitter users are "Elite Media"? Excuse me while I clean the diet pepsi from my computer monitor. You're kidding, right? - Wayne Schulz
Not to mention that turnaround is fair play. Dems have been complaining about Fox and Rush Limbaugh for years. Huckabee never complained about THEM when Bush got elected. - Robert Scoble
@Ricardo excuse me for not adding /sarcasm at the end of my post. - Carlos Ayala
Wayne: pretty damn elite. They communicate with only 140 characters. Certainly takes a lot more skill than any politician has. :-) Of COURSE I'm kidding. Are you really that serious? Geesh. - Robert Scoble
Big reach, Scoble. You know he was talking about CNN et al. - John Denver
Has the Huckster gotten anything right lately? - Jack Carlson
Craig: his words were "elite media." John Denver: of course I know he was talking about, but the blogs and many Twitterers have been far harsher against Palin than anything I've seen on CNN or MSNBC. - Robert Scoble
So I guess being tech-savvy and online with our self-expression, courageous enough to publicly question the status quo makes us elite? Nice...I've never been elite before. I feel so...like...elite and stuff. Shortly after that comment, CNN's ticker/caption thingy said: "Mike Huckabee supports health and weight loss", as if that's the most poignant thing he could muster. - Rich Harris
I was listening to WBZ (through iTunes) and when he came on I turned it off. And I have to agree, Robert that a lot of Twitterers and bloggers have been really harsh on them, which can be a bit upsetting at times. I can't believe how many times today I was screaming at the computer with stuff I've read on FF and Twitter. *lol* - Molly, the Vampy Vampire
They are purposefully confusing what they are talking about when they say Media so nobody knows if they are complaining about MSM or DK or twitters, i.e., if someone on DK says something nasty, they can blame CNN and decide not to appear in the media until November - which is the only way they can win at this point. - Bora Zivkovic
All religious freaks fear the future, bashing anything they don't understand. Huckabee is just jealous that Twitter is more popular then Republican party. BTW, did he say anything about Palin's daughter getting pregnant and how blasphemous it was to have to have sex without being married? - Shane
Does Huckaby realize that there are Republicans on Twitter? (and Friendfeed, too, I think. :) - ha3rvey (That One)
Harvey: just to be clear. He didn't call out Twitter users. He called out the "elite media" who has been talking about Palin in negative terms past few days. I guess he should have called out DailyKOS. - Robert Scoble
@shane "Huckabee is just jealous that Twitter is more popular then Republican party" - ROLFMAO - Ian Hussein Maverick May
Twitter is more popular then Republican party -- how quickly we forget the fail whale - Craig Eddy
Umm, humor fail? 21st Century fail? Can't pick. - Kevin Bondelli
Problem is, Huckabee never mentioned Twitter. Once again someone with a huge following on Twitter, Friendfeed, etc, gets it wrong. Shane, I'm one of those religious "freaks" who DOESN'T fear the future one bit. Oh, Senator Obama said to leave the children out of this. Pick a new target for your bile. - Charles LePage
more popular that the rep party. That's good. LOL. But so true. - Chris
Charles, I think Scoble was kidding. Did you catch his comment after mine earlier? - ha3rvey (That One)
Charles: give me a break. He said "elite media." I had a little fun with that. ANYONE who cares is watching the RNC right now anyway and knows what I said. Geesh, do you really think everyone on Twitter is stupid? Can I quote you on that? - Robert Scoble
And the line was "the reporting of the past few days have proven tackier than a costume change at a Madonna concert." Robert Scoble got it wrong TWICE. And you wonder why people don't trust the media. - Charles LePage
Scoble....there's always a hater or 3......:-) - Rich Harris
"Geesh, do you really think everyone on Twitter is stupid? Can I quote you on that?" No, I don't give you permission to use your stature on Twitter and FF to misrepresent what I said. - Charles LePage
The entire quote: "I’d like to thank the elite media for something quite frankly I didn’t believe could be done — that is unifying the Republican Party and all of America (behind McCain/Palin). The reporting of the past few days has proven tackier than a costume change at a Madonna concert." He said the reporting was tacky, not the reporters, not people on Twitter. The REPORTING. - Charles LePage
Wow Scoble, way to take a quote out of context. If you can't come up with valid arguments I guess you have to settle for BS propaganda? - pitlord

I've switched and don't know that I'll be going back. Someone lemme know when beta is live so I can hit the normal site! =) - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
Mona, poster names are still links they're just styled differently so they don't look like the other links. - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
beta.friendfeed is my new friend !! lots of new stuff to play with.. 8-10hrs lag with list data ..but a very very powerful feature. !! Way to GO TEAM FF !! - Peter Dawson
Love it. If this does not go mainstream, I don't know what will. - Vinay | विनय
This could be very good... but where 's the Rick Roll? - Bill Sodeman
OK: That's a long enough beta period. Let's do it live! - Chris Baskind
I want to start a pool -- (a) first blog to hit techmeme with an article on the re-design, (b) blog with most articles about the re-design (within 2 days starting now) - Wayne Schulz
Michael: if you're viewing your feed from the main address, there is a 'sharing' box up at the top, and the options (comment, photo, link) appear once you begin typing. - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)

@Jennifer "My Feed" in the sidebar replaces the "me" tab. And like Tibor said, your name works too. - Dan Hsiao

@Stupid Blogger: Thanks, I'd figured that out, was just pointing out what seems like a bug in the current UI. - Michael Nielsen
Looks nice on first glance, and it seems easier now to reach rooms. The friend lists should be a great way to organize my imaginary friends which are basically topic subscriptions. The "Add/ Remove friends" link is confusing at first because when you don't have any friends in the list yet, clicking it will result in nothing (making you wonder if it's broken). The message sharing post form is also confusing because you don't quite know what to enter into it; a link, or a message, or...? The fact that it says "Share a link, message, or photos" doesn't really help. Also wasn't sure how to remove a friend from the home feed after moving them to a special list feed. Took me some seconds to find the Delete List icon, because I was looking near the "Add/ remove friends" link navigation. Wasn't sure if I like you created so many default friend lists for me (personal, favorites, professional), though I guess it may be useful to get the point across. I think I'm liking how names aren't underlined, though not so sure a - Philipp Lenssen
I love the new info bubble. Super better than the old one :) - AJ Batac ♘
Looks like the logo now clicks to the Friends view, as you'd expect. Same as You + Friends. - Chris Baskind
can't seem to access the beta site: Service Unavailable
We encountered an error on your last request. Our service is new, and we are just working out the kinks. We apologize for the inconvenience. - Thomas Hawk
Awesomeness, very useful, and solves the biggest problem of noise reduction! great! - Aditya Kothadiya
awesome! Working now. Anyone know if there is a pagerization greasemonkey script yet for the beta site? - Thomas Hawk
thanks for the iteration.. it's a great step forward - Travis Parsons
like the new functions, but not the new layout, it just doesn't look like friendfeed and a bit feel like google groups (caused by the side bar maybe). miss the old layout... - Baron Mok
We need a "remove from home feed" button under the friends settings. Or there must be an option that we can choose the list which shows on main page. For example, i want to see only "Professional" friends' feeds on the main page. - Selim Yoruk
So many small details and improvements, make SO much difference. - Martin Añazco
At last, I will be able to add to my feed all the people who subscribe to me, and it won't impact on my main source of infobrainment. It looks nice, too. Looks like you guys have pulled another one out of the bag. +1 - Slippy Lane
I'm truly amazed at how good the UI is. The subtle touches like the use of blue links in just the right places or the contextual help like "How does hiding work?". Really great job. I think mioNews just became a little less useful to me, since FF now natively has friend groups. Oh well :P - Patrick Lightbody
It has a great feature in allowing me to separate different people into different lists - that will be worth the whole interface change in itself. I hope that rooms also have embeddable feeds tho! - Justin Long
FF is in a frenzy. This is 16 hrs old and 3rd on my Best of the Week. Congratulations Bret and team. - Russellreno
@Marcos: you can hover your mouse over the comment bubble in front of a comment to get its timestamp. - Dan Hsiao
Much talk about what is new in the latest v2.0.2 iPhone firmware. Since Apple does not post any official "fix list" - these discussion forums are the best chance for discovering what people find has been fixed with each release. - Wayne Schulz

I disagree that FF equalize the A list -- it gives the appearance of doing so but in reality most comments roll off into "Show XX more comments" never to be seen by the vast majority of FF. Ultimately FF is largely a more refined version of Twitter - getting a lot of publicity from Bloggers who use it to push their sites but questionable as to whether the popularity will transfer to the general public. - Wayne Schulz
I had no idea you could moderate comments under your own items. If more than four people ever commented on my items, this power would go to my head. - mrshl
@Wayne, while I don't think it 'equalizes' the A-list, it does allow us Z-listers to get our foot in the door. My stats show a fair influx of traffic from FF, pretty much neck and neck with the traffic from Twitter. I feel even most of that is driven by people who find me due to a comment (based on the # of follows I get after commenting vs. how many I get when I don't comment). - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
That was an interesting read, though it seriously doesn't apply to me because no one has ever commented on anything I've posted here. HA! But, yeah...had no idea you could moderate comments. - Faboo Mama
you said it trollishguy, hooray for censorship in any form! i for one welcome our chinese overlords. gosh hope this comment doesn't get deleted too! - Nailed Jello
It seems like censorship and moderation are used interchangeably on FriendFeed lately. It also seems like people think it's censorship when one doesn't agree with deleting a comment, but it's moderation when one does. I don't think censorship is even happening here. - Bwana McCall
Police found that Dubay had the three older children fight each other, sometimes for as long as 20 minutes, with plastic baseball bats and other objects. Police said Dubay would urge the children on as they fought. During one of the fights, the girl suffered a split and bloody lip, said Det. Don Skewes, who led the investigation. - Wayne Schulz

"It's not likely Edwards would be nominated for a cabinet post should Obama win, since the scandal would probably taint any confirmation process. But he told ABC he didn't think his political career had ended.
There is precedent for second acts for politicians touched by scandal - Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy and Newt Gingrich all have rebuilt their reputations. " -- Oh yeah - just wait until the payola stops flowing and see how quickly this changes - book, tv, Oprah - he's cooked! - Wayne Schulz

Shel, we agree the term isn't a good one. In my case, HR needed to have the term manager in the books for the title. We all know the real rules of engagement. - Jeremiah Owyang
community manager is the new spin artist, a pr guy in sheep's clothing - Gregory Lent
Ask HR. Are they Human Managers? (well in a sense they are). By parallel the title could be Manager, Community Relations - Michael Hussein Markman
Found enough good stuff in links & commentary here & twitter to do a (gasp) blog post on this. You remember those, right? - Brian Oberkirch
Most companies I've studied are horrible at bootstrapping community. They don't know how to get one going. But they are fairly good at managing things that are already built. So, a community manager is someone who keeps an already-existing community happy. Who listens to the community and takes care of problems. Who finds new content and other things for that community, IE, who feeds that community. Here on FF we're ALL community managers due to the distributed nature of how FF works. - Robert Scoble
@Robert I couldn't agree more. Been on both ends. Was moderator for a huge board for a couple of rock stars and did exactly as you say. That community thrived because they wanted to be there. Nothing I did generated that. I only maintained it. I sure learned the difference when I tried to start communities for several other orgs! - Melanie Reed
Way back in the day I "managed" several mailing lists (I still miss majordomo, btw), most of which were very focused. It's really more like herding cats than cattle. A largely thankless job that you do because you have a passion for the topic at hand. Community managers, if up to the task, can keep the channel clear of enough noise for the community leaders' signal to get through. - Chris Kim A
They hang out in the community and rep the company and its products. Apologizes if the company screws up. Encourages people to choose the company's products over the others. Helps people find the right person in the company to work with. Retains their humanity, and generally takes the customer's side whenever possible. Quits if the company acts in an unprincipled way, so they act as a guarantor of the honesty of the company. A canary in the coalmine. Best if it's the CEO of the company. - Dave Hussein Winer
We call the roll Community Gardener since they need to plant the right seeds, ensure water & sunlight and a healthy environment. That includes tending to weeds, ensuring that things that will pollute the healthy growth of the community do not take hold. - Austin Hill
The Real Community Manager is Proselytes Maker - Lora Lufark
good CM projects his passion for the subject into the primordial soup, infects people with ideas and said passion, and catalyzes community formation per se. That's the fun part. Then it's onwards to herding cats. - Michael Bravo

This type of stuff happens every day to famous and non-famous alike - I'm not sold your photo is all that unique as the articles seemed to play up. The real story is how the mainstream media ignored the story -- and how National Enquirer is suddenly more right than sensationalist. - Wayne Schulz
The minority is growing, put me on the list. +1 Joe, private life should be just that. - Aaron Krug
thats the problem with American's and their view points. You are wiling to let a polictical candidate say one thing and yet do another thing and you all want to still elect the person ?? Hide behind the banner of "pvt life" and lets keep eyes wide closed. So then STFU about oil, food prices, housing crisis, health etc and keep your eyes closed - Peter Dawson
@Peter, it is his pvt. life. We cannot snoop into the bedrooms of people and worry about it. What enraged most people in this case is his use of his wife in the campaign even after his "affair". In fact, if not for Elizabeth, Edwards wouldn't have enjoyed the support he had. In fact, I don't care if he had sex with another woman or not. It is between him and his wife and NO ONE else has any right to poke their nose into it. (contd) - Krishnan Hussein Subraman
What is wrong and what enraged me was his use of Elizabeth in the campaign while he was screwing another woman. If he had used her in the campaign, I wouldn't have bothered about his sex life at all. He had misused/abused the trust we kept on him due to Elizabeth. - Krishnan Hussein Subraman
"He had misused/abused the trust we kept on him due to Elizabeth" .....ahhhhh-- at least some1 has a spine around here and be an advocate of truth, in some form ! - Peter Dawson
Krish: it isn't any of our business, true, but he was trying to be President at the time. Me? Only Valleywag cares what I do in my bedroom. Here, though, the stakes are bigger, especially since his wife is someone a lot of people liked and who has cancer. - Robert Scoble
