The thing that gets me about this stuff isn't that these people can't spell... it's that their spelling reveals that they don't even know how to pronounce the words in the first place.

Language Nazis almost always have questionable language skills. Funny, and sad.
- Kathy Fitch
For the record: surely you meant "not clear on the concept THAT FOLLOWS," rather than "concept of [a] feed." The very same people may very well be clear on the latter, though probably not one of the Friendly variety [http://google.com/search...]. And please don't tell us that all the others here knew exactly what you meant without the missing reference; none of us ever knows what you mean, but we've developed individual methods of dealing with that "nowledge" (and this one is a sample of mine).

How strange that everyone except you knew what I was talking about. Res ipsa loquitur.

I speek english goodly. Speeking english is a rite and a responsability we shuld al take serious.

my Nglish aint so swell, but i' fluent in valley & Pig Nglish, ;)
- chaz2b
everybody understands english if you speak it loudly and slowly enough.

Extremists are ugly. I'm not crazy about the sentiment, but I understand the emotion behind the knee-jerk reaction. When Chester's grandfather came to this country he may have spoken German, Polish, Lithuanian, Russian, perhaps a smattering of French and English. America didn't accommodate his family, why should it be so flexible for yours?
- Phil Boiarski
As one can plainly see, this is what happens when one substitutes logic and clear thinking for emotion.
- Steven Perez
Interestingly, I know some (generally non-crazy) people who believe that the US Govt, as well as states and localities, make intentional decisions to *prevent* Spanish-speakers from learning English. This keeps them in the lowest class, so that English-speakers don't get stuck with migrant farm working. From conducting school in Spanish, skipping ESL classes, to making sure govt offices...

Phil - Actually, during the early part of the last century (during that huge wave of immigration from Eastern Europe), there were many "Americanization" programs aimed at those immigrant groups. Many were run by local civics groups and libraries, and some visited job sites to offer English instruction. The fear of immigrants ran high during that period, something eugenicists took advantage of.
- Katy S
An addition: One of the most famous racist anti-immigration texts from that period is Madison Grant's "The Passing of the Great Race, or The Racial Basis of European History." It's available on google books: http://books.google.com/books... I had the displeasure of reading it for my research. Unfortunately, it was very popular. This is the 1921 ed. The first ed. was in 1916.
- Katy S
uuuugh... Stuff like this just makes me angry, people should learn to accept, and stop being super christian bigoted halfwit in-bred fucks who think they own the world and are above everyone else...
- Greg/battou
So I'm guessing bad English is better then fluent anything? And these are the people that if they ever found themselves in France would complain to no end that the people there snubbed them for not speaking French.
- Heather
Kimber—and what made you think that an image that's apparently been imprinted in your brain would be that everywhere? There is a world outside the CNN… [@Heather: surely your last "French" is a misprint for "English"? Else it doesn't make sense].
- ianf ⌘
ianf - the "morans" picture has been going around the web for a couple of years now, and besides which, Steven posted that picture as well to the US politics room around the same time as this thread... Also, Heather's point is valid as originally formulated - she means that these "English should be the only language in the US" freaks really just mean "I only speak English" and would...

Andrew, perhaps you'd care to read with detached eye rather than misdirected emo before you attempt to correct my correct reading of Heather's misprint: "if they ever found themselves in France [they] would complain to no end that the people there snubbed them for not speaking French." Re: morans-picture, I can only repeat my earlier statement of a whole world outside the CNN and US-political navel-gazing.

I know some high school English teachers who would love that sign to just say, "English: Learn It". Though that changes the entire meaning, doesn't it?
- Miss Elle
Because here is what I meant: people who blather on about how English needs to be the official language of this country, yet can't be arsed to spell correctly on a piece of posterboard, need to STFU. They can take their decades-old thinly-veiled racist claptrap and stick it where the sun don't shine.

IMO If people are gonna bitch about something, they should at least spell it right! Damn!

Yep, Steven, and then they all get bunged up when the international view is that we're "all" ignoramuses. Yeesh - English is the "official language" of international business and it's embarrassing to me when people who are not native English speakers have better written grammar and diction than our American brothers & sisters. Bob the Angry Flower needs to address this.

without mms cant you still use email to send pics?
- David Gross
sure you can send pics to others, but they can't send them to you, unless they email them. I also glanced at my bill the other day and saw that I had received 5 MMS messages. News to me... Didn't even get that annoying txt from AT&T telling me that I have to go to some website to view it.... I kinda wanted to try the copy/paste on it now to see if it was any less annoying.

I've been using Pinger Picfree for a few weeks now on A.T.&T. Available now in the app store... "Simply take a pic from your iPhone or use a photo from the Photo Library, then send that picture to any US mobile phone via MMS or even to an email."

MMS on iPhone already has launched in Japan. Is there AT&T technical problem?

We've had MMS in Australia since it launched, Optus played up for about a month but every other carrier was fine.
- Andrew Trinh
Wish I was in Australia... The settings circulating the inter-webs for AT&T in the US don't seem to be breaking my visual vm anymore. I have the ability to attach an image, but the send always fails... :(
- JR
I can wait, but I better not have to pay extra for it. I actually like NOT receiving such messages anyways. People always send me the weirdest photos ever. Perves I tell you.

I've always wondered why zombies gun for brains... how could a high protein diet be beneficial to them? Surely they should gun for carbs and fatty things, but then that'd turn most of the films into pornos as they try to go for every breast jiggling their way - hmmm, I wonder what the market is like for "zombi-splotation films" ;)
- alphaxion
@alphaxion I wondered that too. Why the brain? Hmmmmm
- Shevonne
The brain is chock full of cholesterol, so maybe they really are going for fatty things.
- FFing Enigma
Wow Tina - never knew that: "Twenty-five percent of cholesterol within the body is found in brain cells, where it seems to perform many important roles" - I am so glad I don't include brain in my diet, my doctor would fiercely scold me!
- Dean "Karnatos" Michaud
Alphaxion: Not very big. I'm only familiar with one zombie porn flick. :P
- Tanath
But the only issue is why don't they eat animals? They have brains too.
- Shevonne
Is it cause the rest of the animal kingdom isn't as dumb as humans and so require a far greater investment of energy in order to acquire sustenance?
- alphaxion
Dean: it's because cholesterol makes up the myelinated sheath around neural cells. Anywhere there are neurons, there's a crapload of cholesterol.
- FFing Enigma
@alphaxion I guess it depends on which zombies. If they are the old school zombies, who are super slow, then you might be right. However, the new zombies can run like vigilantes, and they still have no interest in animals. I think the only time I saw that they were eating animals was in the book "World War Z"

My birthday's coming up people, these would be terribly appropriate

She's still on home shopping network right? She might be set for a while with side deals. I think that show is also stressing her personally... that's my speculation

Crazy is the operative word. She also seems shall we say a little "loopy"

She should just cuddle up by the fire with a big cup of crazy. The only thing waiting for her professionally is a reality show, and that can't be good.
- Eric - seven eleven
Probably has enough money that she doesn't have to worry about the $$. Its all about other things??
- Justin Long
My guess she was given the opportunity for a face saving exit and took advantage. Now it looks like it was her idea when it probably wasn't.
- Todd Hoff
Crazy or no, she was part of the formula of that show... It won't be the same without her.

T-Mobile USA’s latest Android smartphone, the myTouch 3G, goes on sale today, and to celebrate (and, dare we say, distract attention from the HTC Hero) the carrier is planning an aerial show above San Francisco. 100 skydivers will plummit, sky-writing as they go, to announce the fact that the myTouch 3G costs $199.99 with a new two-year agreement. Unlike the HTC Magic version of the smartphone, the myTouch 3G will be available in three colors: black, white and merlot (red). Each will come preloaded with Android OS 1.5 Cupcake, and have 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, a 3.2-inch touchscreen and 3.2-megapixel camera. If the thought of falling salespeople isn’t enough to lure you out of the house – or if you’re not in San Francisco – then you can also pick up the new smartphone online. Head over to www.t-mobilemytouch3g.com for all the details. I cannot WAIT for the iPhone to go to another carrier. Seriously, the iPhone's biggest problem IS AT&T.
- Mona Nomura
I'll be happy as long as there's no stupid proprietary crap on it. (ie. all the verizon-ized crap). The one thing I always hated about verizon phones.
- John Wang
I agree with you John. When I moved to T-Mobile it was refreshing that the only T-Mobile stuff on the phone was for T-Mobile specific features, like The 5 Faves, and now I have an app to check on my account, and now I have an app for Visual Voice mail. Otherwise, it is the standard Google Android phone. And I appreciate that.
- Travis B. Hartwell
It's not like you're overflowing with choice for American GSM carriers though, is it? You've got... TMO aaaaand.....
- Ewan MacLeod
Ewan is right... we need a robust MVNO system built upon structural unbundling concepts like those in European markets. In that world, you might still have Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint but the MVNO's ride on any/all of them and shunt/suffer the traffic management in each case as they draw relationships or Transatel like companies behind the scenes. Sprint will swallow Virgin (MVNO). Tracphone (MVNO Walmart) on Verizon might follow that path as well. Point being, let MVNO's incubate and if they sell, fine.
- Jay Cuthrell
I really hope something good comes out of this. Odds are the phone will bridge over into Verizon, we all know thats coming at some point, but I hope that it doesn't fully jump. Going from one exclusive system to another really doesn't allow for anything to truly change.

"The court documents show that the 43-year-old actor and his wife, Kennya, owe more than $2 million, Reuters reported. The Baldwins owe a reported $1.2 million on two mortgages for their home in Rockland County, N.Y., valued at $1.1 million. Court filings also show the actor owes $70,000 in credit card debt and more than $1 million in taxes. An auction for the home originally scheduled for July 24 had been rescheduled for today, the Journal News of White Plains, N.Y., reported earlier this month. The born-again Christian and brother of actor Alec Baldwin paid $515,000 for the home and 1.4-acre lot in 1997, according to the AP. The star has recently been appearing on reality shows such as "The Celebrity Apprentice," and "I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!" where he baptized Spencer Pratt. After unsuccessfully trying to sell the house in 2006, Baldwin and his wife Kennya have defaulted on over $824,000 in payments to their mortgage, according to the AP."

Annie is a surprise to me (though there was a sign of trouble last year when she sold a portion of her future profits). Stephen though... well, here's an excerpt from Wikipedia: "He has a tattoo on his left shoulder of the initials "HM" for Hannah Montana. His daughters are fans of Hannah Montana, and he got the tattoo after making a pact with Miley Cyrus that he would be allowed to cameo on the show if he had the initials tattooed on him."

wow blown away by leibovitz too. whats with all that borrowing? and in the millions?
- Carlos Ayala
What was the line from TMNT? "A Jose Canseco bat? Tell me you didn't pay money for this!" I guess people didn't....
- Andrew Leyden
A bit of Googling: Leibovitz's main difficulties stem from her inheritance of the estate of her longtime partner Susan Sontag. Had they been married there would have been no taxes on their combined estate until both of them passed away. As a gay couple, Leibovitz had to pay the estate tax immediately (which is half of the value of the properties in 2004). She did not sell the properties...

Maybe the best thing about the BlackBerry 8900 is that it seems to run for days on a charge. Yeah, it has poky EDGE - but for BlackBerry that's usually speed enough. I've run Slacker on my 8900 on EDGE without any problems. Definitely a cool device especially when paired with Wi-Fi/UMA

What frightens me most about Palin isn't Palin. It's the incredibly short memory of the public at large. Even with everything she's said, done, hasn't done, will do...there will be people out there who hunger to hear the drivel she spews and forget the rest.
