Now if only the rest of Google would do the same thing, and enough sites and companies have the sense to drop IE6 altogether, they might force Microsoft's hand.

Well, YouTube is going to drop IE6 support. I doubt we'll ever see the regular Google search drop support for it though (I think it works all the way back to IE3, but I'm just guessing).
