34 secs flat for my latest tweet. Thanks Paul and team for this!
- Jorge Escobar
wow, that makes actually want to use Twitter. I may just go tweet something.
- Mike Nencetti
It should be even faster than that Jorge, but our systems are getting near their limit. I hope to have it down to 1 sec sometime next month.
- Paul Buchheit
Yay! That's fantastic! I was getting really bored of manually refreshing it every time I tweeted. Especially from my phone. :)
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Does this mean that Scoble can get smarter on FriendFeed again?
- Crutis
You are still working on Frienfeed (: how nice !
- Murat Can Demir
^ That's probably the best part of this announcement, TBH. Good point

whoa, it took less than a minute. i accdently tested it but it's great :) thnx
- asli subasi
awesome, keep it up guys, i knew you would not let us down
- Iggy Mwangi
Great news, love the efforts still put in to FF.I use Google Reader to share into FF (PubSubHubBub) then FF to Twitter (now Real-Time). The URL shortener is great (ff.im), and so FF is central to my social lifestream. I don't care what Scoble says, FF is technically better and feature-rich.
- Keith Rowland
P.S. Conversations are still better here than on GReader, and you just can't have one on Twitter.
- Keith Rowland
You didn't break the FF Facebook app while you were at it, did you? It hasn't worked since.
- Tim Tyler
Oh, awesome!!! 12 seconds :) I can finally go back to Twitter (...okay no I can't I've turned into a Friendfeed junkie..) but prior it took hours upon hours for me to see a feed. Dumb I am, I never suspected a problem LMAO.
- H0llywoodWh0re
Paul ?? Twitter updates facebook status and then facebook creates a new feed here on friendfeed. So we have same entries both from twitter and facebook on friendfeed. Could you guys please work on how we can avoid duplicate entries? Thank you. ( If there's already a way to avoid this, pls let me know)
- Murat Can Demir
Cool, thanks, Paul! :-) RT Twitter updates have been missed. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
And just as I say that, I see my tweets are not coming into FF in real-time. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
Kol. I just tweeted and it was here before I could get out of Tweetie and launch Safari... It's working :)

I hafta say, though, not a single non-English film in there? And only one non-American (Shaun of the Dead). I've got to be skeptical about that. Is the algorithm tweaked to account for films that haven't been ranked by that many people, but are highly ranked by everyone who has ranked it?
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Jandy, this isn't a statement about the quality of the films so much as the users of flikchart; these are the best loved films as determined by theses users; rotten tomatoes would have a different list based on the people that it uses as data for the system
- RAPatton
from iPhone
That's a good point, RAP. I just think it's the downfall of lists created based on majority vote - it's necessarily biased toward films that most people have seen. It is interesting to see Flickchart's fanboy bias, though - lots of comic book and geek films on there.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I would think that for the most part the films would follow the box office, indexed for inflation and then factored by the box office demographics. The interesting ones would be the ones that did well on DVD, but not at the BO, and trying to divine why.
- RAPatton
from iPhone
It's accurate in that it's a true reflection of the users' rankings, where the films fall on their lists, and how prolific a user they are. The more each user ranks, the more accurate each user's list becomes. If more people highly ranked indie films, foreign films, etc. and were also prolific users of Flickchart, those film's rankings would rise higher in the aggregate.
- Nathan Chase
My top movie of the decade is my favourite movie ever (so far); Sunshine was awesome in the true sense of the word. I agree with Memento, Children of Men and The Departed (which were 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively on my top 20 of the 2000s). I thought the likes of The Incredibles were just OK. Kill Bill didn't impress me and the Lord of the Ring's were too much for me - edit them to half the length and they would be a lot higher in my charts.
- Kol Tregaskes
Iron Man is the best superhero movie so far and Batman Begins is the best Batman movie so I don't agree Dark Knight should be anywhere near the top spot. It was very good but not a top 20 movie, the only parts I liked from the movie were when Heath Ledger was on screen. I really like Christian Bale but he over-the-top husky Batman voice was too much and too comically.
- Kol Tregaskes
Shame the Million Dollar Baby didn't reach the top 20 and I loved Saw (only the first one though). And no Pirates of the Caribbean's? Here's my top 20 of the noughties: http://www.flickchart.com/Charts...
- Kol Tregaskes
dark knight was good because it doesnt rely on batman as the main part of the movie.. if they had problems getting the rights for batman, this still would of made a good film i think...`
- Terry O'Fee
Would the Joker be included in the rights of Batman though? So if they didn't get the rights to Batman they wouldn't get the Joker? Or are they separate. If there was no Batman then the Joker would still need a good guy to fight. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
joker yes, but you know what i mean? heath playing an equally mad psychotic guy??
- Terry O'Fee
My top twenty of the 2000s, according to Flickchart right now: 20) Dogville, 19) Catch Me If You Can, 18) Ocean's Eleven, 17) Garden State, 16) City of God, 15) Up in the Air, 14) The Incredibles, 13) 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days, 12) Amelie, 11) Wall-E, 10) Inglourious Basterds, 9) Hot Fuzz, 8) Kill Bill Vol. 1, 7) Lost in Translation, 6) The Royal Tenenbaums, 5) Brick, 4) O Brother...
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Jandy, Ocean's Eleven is a good shout. That should be higher on my list. Wall-E was great too. And I really liked Brick, more people need to watch that.
- Kol Tregaskes
While I'd prefer he'd stop the "torture is okay if they're not people" crap, better a torturing president who's nice to people and cool than the last guy :)

Wow, reading these comments, the US has some seriously jaded citizens.. and they are all online. :P

I'm (independent) red, and I don't see Obama is being any more or less approachable than Bush was. But then again being from the latter's home state helps that ;). But there's no doubt he's done more to bring the government process closer to the people it affects than anyone else before him (I'm young, so I may be wrong). And that picture exemplifies that fact
- LANjackal
Cute pic, but his actions so far aren't very encouraging.

a year or so ago, we had something similar with our PM. he was out an about, meeting people who lost their homes, their loved ones lives when the terrible http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... black saturday bushfires. one guy was talking to the PM and just broke down in front of the cameras and kev gives the guy a hug. there's a lot i don't agree with that the gov. isn't doing at the moment but it was a nice moment..

"Broussard simply couldn’t tolerate the idea of Duke Nukem Forever coming out with anything other than the latest and greatest technology and awe-inspiring gameplay. He didn’t just want it to be good. It had to surpass every other game that had ever existed, the same way the original Duke Nukem 3D had. But because the technology kept getting better, Broussard was on a treadmill. He’d see a new game with a flashy graphics technique and demand the effect be incorporated into Duke Nukem Forever. "
- Graham Sergeant
That's really interesting that they were honestly in the last mile (FINALLY) when the money dried up. Too bad. It sucks that the rampant lack of discipline killed what could have been as generation-defining a sequel as the first DN.
- Chieze Okoye
They were in a "honestly in that last mile" state of mind for a long time... that's how they kept enticing publishers to swoop into the fray. Gameplay complexity is exponential because of decision trees and often with game production the last 10% is actually the last 90. Closing out a game is always the work of a ruthless axeman hacking at branches not a loving gardener caring for growth.
- Graham Sergeant
That point is well taken, but I was referring to the real mindset change that Broussard had when he realized that he had to get it out the door, and the new hires that they brought in that were (again FINALLY) like "no, we can't add that feature. No new features. Stop asking for new features. Oh look, you have a pretty close to finished game, 1 year of hard work and it'll be done. No, seriously, stop asking for new features."
- Chieze Okoye
I think a lot of people—myself included—are working a little harder at it. Plus, I've been receiving significantly more new subscriptions, a lot of which are from people brand-new to FriendFeed. It's definitely a good thing.
- Akiva Moskovitz
In all seriousness, I've been getting a bunch of new subscribers too. Not sure if that's just me making nice with the librarians, though.
- Derrick
Well, now that you mention it, I HAVE been posting more! (Looks around... realization sets in... sits back down and stares intently at floor...)
- Mark "DerBingle" J
Friendfeed activity never goes away, even if people stop using friendfeed directly, as long as they set up feeds and continue doing interesting things on the intarwebs, we'll find out about them here. Keep 'em coming folks!

It's all Akiva's doing. He is the sole reason this network continues to thrive.

I remember back when I was a kid, I would go to ice houses in San Antonio with my parents and great-grandparents. My parents would sit around and have drinks while the kids had Squirts. Good times. *sigh*

"Alaina Reed Hall, an actress who many American members of my cohort will fondly remember as Olivia from Sesame Street, and/or Rose from 227, has died at age 63 of breast cancer. I absolutely adored Olivia when I was a little girl, falling absolutely in admiring awe of her—I thought she was so smart and so beautiful and so nice, and I wished I could sing as well as she did—before I was even old enough to understand that Reed Hall was not really a woman named Olivia who actually lived on Sesame Street."

There are basically two different kinds of movie trailers. The ones for all audiences are known as "green band" trailers. You'll even see a green background when the trailer begins. Then there's the "red band" ones. These are ones that tend to have more 'adult' content. Let me just say that this trailer is not for everyone. If you are easily offended, you might want to just keep moving along. Do not click play.

Hit-Girl is played by Chloe Moretz. Kick-Ass, as you may know, is a movie based on the comic by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. It's due in theaters on April 16, 2010.

Awesome trailer but kinda creepy to see an 11 year old girl swearing like a sailor cutting off limbs.

Now, I want this. It's been awhile. Audrea, it's like a pancake. It has egg, shrimp, veggies. Its topped in the first photo with bonito flakes, 2nd has kewpie (japanese mayo), flakes and ground shiso(IIRC), 3rd has oyster sauce (it looks like),shiso and green onions..

@ Joe Silence is not Santa >yeeees, very delicious! :)

The Japanese supermarkets around here sell the okonomiyaki mix which has the ground yam in it. Sometimes just make it with flour though.
- Adrian
I learned about okonomiyaki at the Japanese food festival at the New Otani Hotel in Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. They had a stand that made them. It was delicious and got hooked on them. :D
- Adrian
Hello Adrian! you can buy in USA...wow! please make for me okonomiyaki someday! :D

"From a defense technology standpoint, there’s a lot to chew over here. First, viewers will see a lot of similarity between the weapons and vehicles of Aliens and Avatar. That makes some sense since Aliens takes place in 2179 and Avatar takes place in 2154. There are manbots, huge troop carrying gunships and Osprey-like light helicopters — and most of the weapons are kinetic rather than energy blasting arms. Seems to me, though, if you are at the point of perfecting interplanetary travel on the kind of scale as Avatar, you’d have a little more advanced weaponry. Looks like Cameron just dusted off the Aliens script and had some of his artists spruce up existing weapons with a more “ergonomic” look"

Finally! Cupcakes for Dudes: Butch Bakery Debuts, Injects Machismo into Cupcake Craze - New York Restaurants and Dining - Fork in the Road - http://blogs.villagevoice.com/forkint...
"Ever wonder what's been missing from cupcakemania? As it turns out, it's cupcakes for men. Since the very beginning of the trend, sparked by the gals from Sex and the City, bakeries like Magnolia, BabyCakes, and Baked by Melissa have predominantly aimed their pastel-frosted treats at the ladies. Butch Bakery hopes to change all that with its masculine approach to the baked goodies. The cupcakes are available for delivery in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, and the company has plans to open storefront bakeries throughout the city and beyond."

My grandson wanted Avatar (the TV show) stuff for Christmas but they got rid of that stuff for the movie stuff which he hasn't seen yet. So I bought him Transformers instead.

I have been so confused over these movies.....I had some geek friends explain it to me REAL SLOW....
- Nurse Katie
A few months ago, blogs I read were up in arms about the casting of Avatar (the movielization of the TV show), so I assumed Avatar was that movie. Very confused.
- Betsy (bentley) Vera
I don't know you Josh, but I completely love Aang and feel as you do... WHY INDEED did James Cameron have to choose THAT title! Hex on him and his movie! LOL
- Lennie Simpson
I remember that, Betsy! That's probably what had me so confused about this movie.

I had no idea the two were not related. Shows how much attention I've paid.

The kids want a Christmas tree. I tell them that we can’t afford a tree, so we won’t have one. The girl says, “Then we won’t get presents.” To which I reply, “Well, we can’t afford presents anyway, so yeah…there’ll be no presents.” Her response? “Get a tree and then there will be presents!” THUD. - Admiral Anika
Well damn...I need to get to finding my tree stand... maybe some presents will magically appear.
- Yolanda
LOL I have TWO of them! They were left here by the previous owners.
- Admiral Anika
I hope this is not too insulting or anything but is there any way that we strangers of the internet who enjoy the photos of your children could get them something small off their wishlist? If this is not the creepiest thing you have ever heard?
- Andrizzle Gizzle
LOL That's not creepy. Thanks Andrea, but I think they'll be fine. I'm not sure that even if I had the money, I'd get them anything. They don't play with the toys they have now and we still haven't read all of the books they have. They'll live.
- Admiral Anika
They get piles of presents from Grandma Santa. Nuf said. They are not lacking in any way.
- Adrian
LOL Ah yes...gifts from Grandma. eek
- Admiral Anika
lol well I really didn't want to be creepy OR insulting, I am sure they are well taken care of, I haven't seen any evidence of abuse in the photos :P

Yeah, as I said in my post, we don't really do Christmas, so I was completely thrown off-guard that they expected anything. Silly babies.
