What on earth are you doing there? Fun place, but you've confused me...

That's where The Geezers (tm), also known as my parents, now live. And my sister lives about an hour away, also in on the bay in Delawhere...

What non-networking geeks often fail to understand is how imprecise current techniques for measuring latency (which is not the same thing as response time) really are. This is a very cool idea.

This sort of thing is a big part of the FUTURE of the Cloud. Which, in turn, is why folks that focus *exclusively* on "utility"-like metaphors (like, say, Nick Carr) are wrong.

aloofschipperke on Stevie Nicks: Technology has 'ruined our children' | "I believe that computers have taken over the world. I believe that they have in many ways ruined our children. I believe that kids used to love to go out and play," she said. - http://www.reddit.com/r...
In Soviet Russia, Kids Ruin Technology! (Sorry, I couldn't resist) ;)

Well for a technophob how is that a surprise?

Actually....it's not computers, it's the politically correct movement that turned into an idiotic over overprotection of kids these days. When is the last time you heard a parent tell their kid to go outside and play when it meant playing football in the street? Even on a side street? You don't see that anymore. Everyone's afraid to let their kids be kids. Obviously you want to keep them safe, but c'mon.

What Salesforce OUGHT to do, but is resisting. The smaller player (LongJump) takes the risk, therefore, and tires to disrupt. Will be interesting to watch. SFDC is getting squeezed on one side by this, byt things like Stax, Heroku, and now Java on GAE on the other. Salesforce's "we are the Excel/ Access apps of the cloud" argument is convincing, but locks them into that same niche, at the same time. Tough call.
