ohagerup has added a photo to the pool: This is a geyser, not Geysir, which is rather unpredictable, infrequent ant partially dormant Fortunately it has a more lively neighbour just nearby. Even closer to the parking lot, actually. Strokkur is very reliable, erupting every 4-8 minutes. Not as tall as the good old Geysir, usually 15-20 meters high. Sometimes up to 40 meters. But how natural is Strokkur really? Being on Iceland, earthquakes keep changing natural phenomenons. The activity of geseyrs can change. Become smaller or higher, more or less frequent - or make them stop completely. Strokkur was first mentioned in 1789 after an earthquake. In the 19th century it's eruptions reached higher than today. But after another earthquake in 1963 it became dormant. But the local Geysir Committee took action, and sorted things out to get it going again. And since then everything has been working nicely and regularly.
