New search engine market share data is out for October 2009 from the referrer-based metrics services. StatCounter: http://gs.statcounter.com/#search... and NetApplications: http://marketshare.hitslink.com/search-... . StatCounter says that worldwide Bing grew 0.06%, while Google grew 0.27%. NetApplications says Bing grew 0.1%, while Google grew 1.41%.
P.S. I'm a bit surprised that all those Windows 7 computers didn't give a larger boost to Bing. Maybe that will happen over the rest of the holidays?

If most of the Win 7 installs were upgrades then perhaps people just stuck with what they knew/liked.

I think people are used to having Google as their search engine. They either install Firefox or Chrome or figure out how to set the search provider. Users are more plastic just after install - you are in the mindset of reinstalling and tweaking things back the way you like.

Good point, Matt. I know right after I install/update an OS, I have a whole checklist of stuff that I tweak.

i think Google chrome is what is helping this number rise. Microsoft had the "default" search for ie and all those awesome chrome ads are helping the numbers grow the Google search share
