They've been doing this voter caging all over the country since at least 2000. In Michigan they were attempting to challenge every voter registration that matched up to a foreclosure list. That was stopped, or at least slowed, but I heard about a similar attempt in Indiana. It's repulsive. I'd like to see the UN step in and monitor our elections. - Jason Carreira

jon: you might want to ping doug and let him know that the rss 2.0 url is wrong on your itc channel - should be http://rss.conversationsnetwor... - but seems to be null on your page... - mike "glemak" dunn
"rss 2.0 url is wrong on your itc channel" transient? seems ok now. - Jon Udell
I'm pretty sure a lot of ITC stuff is dynamically built, so it might have been refreshed on the next rebuild and the error mystically vanished. - Dave Hussein Slusher
think dave's right, looks dynamically built & yes, jon is seems fine now - i got a zune from some friendly msft folks recently and was adding your feed to the mix but got a null feed - guess i was lucky ;) - mike "glemak" dunn
Glad that's resolved. And I'm glad some folks liked this one. I loved it but it got a low rating on ITC. That seems to happen with some of my faves, and it makes me go Hmmm.Wrong subject? Wrong topic? Wrong interviewer? Or...wrong venue? - Jon Udell
I'm guessing option #4. - Dave Hussein Slusher
i haven't listened yet but my guess would be same as dave's unfortunately :( - mike "glemak" dunn

Not sure if I like it, but then, I love my original Kindle. Looks like it's bigger, but the screen is the same size. And no more SD slot or user accessible battery (or fake leather cover)? That sucks. Still, I'll probably buy one, and waterfall my original Kindle to Rachel. Or maybe buy a second first gen version when they get cheap because v2 is out. - Josh Bancroft
As long as it remains very light I think it'll have an edge over others. I sure would like a larger iPhone like device as a carry along reader. - Loren Heiny
I'd love a Kindle if they could get it to a price point that works for me. I really can't see myself paying more than about $99 for such a device. - Aaron B. Hockley

MSNBC: McCain campaign says it will go wildly negative on Obama's character through October
October 4 at 5:26 am - Link
Sen. John McCain and his Republican allies are readying a newly aggressive assault on Sen. Barack Obama's character, believing that to win in November they must shift the conversation back to questions about the Democrat's judgment, honesty and personal associations, several top Republicans said. With just a month to go until Election Day, McCain's team has decided that its emphasis on the senator's biography as a war hero, experienced lawmaker and straight-talking maverick is insufficient to close a growing gap with Obama. - Chris Baskind
Ughhhh. I hope this isn't true. Also, were they watching the same trendline I was? Negative attacks weren't working. - AJ Kohn

That's all they have left. - Trish R
Viva Rovian neganomics. - Chris Messina
see front of NYTimes today. Attempt to link Obama to the Weathermen. He wasn't even born... - Paul Jones via twhirl
Please don't say anyone is surprised by this. - Warner Crocker
I'm shocked - shocked! - to hear McCain is considering going negative. - dkb
Since the Networks and Major news outlets willingly haven't looked into Sen. Obama's judgement, honesty and personal associations, someone's got to do it and get the truth out there. - Paul W. Swansen
When in doubt, do what comes naturally - James Tenniswood
McCain is trying to lose. - (teh)Hussein
Drudge is basically a GOP house organ. That they're running as their lead right now -- over the OJ story -- some spurious little slander from Moose Palin, you know where the McCain camp is heading. It's time to connect the dots between the Keating 5 and McCain's irresponsible, lobbyist-driven "free market" history of deregulation. Not a maverick; not a reformer; not a safe choice to run the economy. - Chris Baskind
Chris B- and Sen. Obama is with Franklin Raines who pocketed $90 million from the Failure of Fannie Mae. The man is a thief and a crook and needs to be in jail. Sen. Obama's judgement in having Raines as an advisor in his campaign is beyond appalling. - Paul W. Swansen
Please don't bring up judgement. P-A-L-I-N. - dkb
@Paul: You want associations with Freddie/Fannie? Come on. McCain's campaign manager. Campaign Manager! was getting paid by them up until they went belly up?! Oh, and Raines says he didn't advise the Obama campaign. http://voices.washingtonpost.c... - AJ Kohn
McCain is a pig. He wants so bad to pull Obama down into the mud with him. I'm fairly confident that the voting population will not react kindly. - Clint Ecker
It may look bad the more negative he goes and Obama stands above the fray. In fact, McCain may make Obama appear more Presidential that way. It's the last Hail Mary of a desperate man. Sad. - Sally Church
using ad hominem attacks [http://bit.ly/3Uqtdf] as the primary tactic shows a lack of substance in the attacker's claims; appeals to emotion rather than reason; and mobilizes fear/hate instead of trust. those who win on these terms end up w/ a following of untrustworthy, fearful, self-centered followers who spend time gaming the system, plundering resources, and abusing the losers. "politics of fear is the last resort of the incompetent." - MikeAmundsen
I agree with Sally...this is a desperate play by a desperate campaign. It's seriously starting to feel like they just didn't bring their A game, whereas Obama's ground strategy is very good. He's got a lot of energized campaigners and they are well organized. From what I can tell, that's not the case for the McCain campaign. So all the dirty tricks in the book won't make a difference. - Alex "Lasagna" Scoble
Well, they're already spending $1.3M a month on attack ads. Those are the ONLY kinds of ads they're running. Not one ad telling you about McCain and what he'll do. Stinks of desperation and is highly comical considering that in 2000 he was decrying these sorts of ads and as recently as 3 months ago, saying that he would never run these sorts of ads. - Faboo Mama

/want/ apple version - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
I can't buy one until next year....need....NOW..... - Mavericks of A-sauce!
There's a new 1000HA version coming out for $430. Basically the same as above but without Draft N wireless. White or black. http://www.amazon.com/1000HA-1... - Rodfather
One of the main reasons I want this is to put Mac OS X on it. Brian Jarvis showed me his Acer Aspire One Hackintosh today, and it FLIES. So impressive. I can't wait! :-) http://www.maceee.com/how-to-m... - Josh Bancroft
This one is definitely impressive if you do need yet another machine - I have learned that I'd better keep my bag a little heavier with a larger machine than having to synchronize information constantly between the two of them. - Svetlana Gladkova
I chose the 901 XP. Since the screen resolution is the same in the 9" and 10" screens, I like the smaller form factor. Plus, I like the SSD vs. HD. Awesome machine. - Bill Miranda
Svetlana - that's where "cloud computing" is appealing. When all of your data is "in the cloud" (e.g., my stuff is in Google Docs, Gmail, GCal, etc.), you gain the ability to slide from computer to computer, and your "state", your data and documents, effortlessly follow you. Then you can use whatever computer is best for the job! :-) - Josh Bancroft
Bill - it would be nice if the bigger 10" screen has higher resolution, and SSD is definitely cool (literally cooler, also a bit lower power, plus no moving parts, no hard drive crashes, etc.). That's why I first went for the 901 20GB (which I've since put XP on). In fact, if it wasn't a problem for playing with Hackintosh (the secondary SSD on the Eee PCs is just too slow to run OS X), and wasn't about $100 more expensive, I'd be drooling over/about to buy the SSD version of the Eee PC 1000. - Josh Bancroft
You could always replace the hard drive with a 2.5" SSD drive. The prices for those are dropping. I also wish it had a higher resolution. For 8.9"/10" screens, 1280x768 would be nice. 7" = 1024x600. 5" = 800x480. - Rodfather
@Josh: I know, cloud computing is such a huge advantage when you can give all your information to Google and never worry about it any more :) Sorry, but I am a bit skeptical about it. I myself am trying to move to web-based apps for almost everything I can but it is not always as secure as I would like it to be. Unfortunately for the time being it is not only information, it is also tons of desktop apps I can't live without (Skype, Twhirl, Miranda for IM) and using them on two different machines could be difficult when I need to find something in history, for example. Maybe I am just not advanced enough for such a machine but I already own a very compact 12" one with 6 hours of battery life and for some reason I have stopped carrying it around completely now. - Svetlana Gladkova via twhirl
@Rodfather yeah, I can't wait for those big, fast (and expensive!) Intel SSDs to hit the market. :-) - Josh Bancroft

Saying she reads the Internets might have helped. - Chris White
I can name 2 newspapers I read in Alaska. The Fairbanks Daily Newsminer and the Anchorage Daily News. That was 4 fricking years ago and I can still name them. - Erica Baker
A weekly paper in Alaska: http://www.petroleumnews.com - peter
There are no words...I mean like gee...she's all like...WTF - Rah™
(A) Honesty: "I read the Wasilia Moosehumper, but usually just have time for Family Circus and Dear Abbey". (B) Lying: "I read the Journal, Harper's, the Economist, and the Harvard Law Review". (C) Cluelessness: "Um. All of them." - Steve Weis
Maybe she didn't want to give free advertising to the papers???? Or maybe... just maybe.... she's out of touch with her state and the other 49 - Anthony K. Valley ©
Couric: "What about blogs, do you keep up with any blogs?" Palin: "Yes, I read any of the ones put in front of me. I read all of them Katie." - Jason Shellen
Why are you all so hard on her? She said she reads most, all, and any put in front of her. Oh, and a vast variety of sources. How can you argue with that?! I mean, personally, I've only read a "bunch," so she has me beat - I think. - Vince DeGeorge
I read a bunch too. Google News. Memeorandum. FriendFeed. Between the three all the world's newspapers come into my view. But at least I could tell you something about them. How can we get her to go away? Please make it stop. I really hope this helps the Republican Party purge themselves of all the Religious Right jerks who've destroyed that party in the past 20 years. - Robert Scoble
"I also read all the internets." - Chris Messina
I can't name a newspaper I read cause I don't read newspapers. I get all my news from the screen in front of me or a little bit from the TV. - Mathew Ballard
What's a newspaper? - /(bb|[^b]{2})/ (Kamath)
I think the important thing to remember is we are not 'picking on her', we are trying to hold her to the high standard the office she is applying for demands... - John Worthington
Why does it feel like, the worse Palin appears, the more likely she's actually going to get voted into office? Oh, I remember now. That's what happened in the 2004 election. - Victor Ganata
I tell you one thing, she has really made me appreciate Hillary... - Vince DeGeorge
She should NOT have said she "reads them all". WTF kinda answer is that. I'm trying not to be on the Palin hater bandwagon, but she just won't work with me... - Rah™
Wasn't it like this with Quale too? - Dave Saunders via twhirl
she reads "all of 'em. any of 'em." she's very entertaining! god bless her - Cee Bee
Alright, that's it - Palin has officially entered "un-parody-able" territory. Any joke about how uninformed she is only pales in comparison to the reality of how uninformed she is. SNL has got nothing on this Katie Couric footage. - Adam Kazwell
Gonna say it again... Principle from South Park - John Worthington
good god help us. This is it. I'm utterly disgusted at the joke that McCain and his campaign have made out of our election process and our government as a whole with this woman (sure, there are people there I'm sure who don't like her, but this nonsense was allowed to happen). - Chieze Okoye
I saw this mentioned this weekend, but I agree. It's cruel to put her in this position. She clearly isn't knowledgeable enough to answer these questions. She also clearly freezes up when challenged. They had to have some clue these were traits of her's before putting her up there. - Andrew Burd
more shit...this has got to go AWAY now dammit!! this is sooo stuoooopid! - Susan Beebe
this is a totally different stage than she's used to. they might not have known she would be like this under these conditions. <trying to give benefit of the doubt> - Jon Price
You know what I take away from this? That she reads and believes anything put in front of her. Let's hope the Taliban aren't sending her spoofed articles. *removes tongue from cheek* - Lindsey Smith
So you think she could name a newspaper and not get in trouble? Saying you read them all is a polite reply without picking favorites. - Dan Nimtz via twhirl
No, say "I'm not gonna give them free advertising", say anything that doesn't sound totally random and moronic - Rah™
Just say "Time" or "People" any thing at all.... Well; any thing except what you did say. - J. Abdul-Qahhar
she gave the same exact answer W gave, except he also tossed in 'the Google'. - Faboo Mama
What's the shortest book in the world? The Sarah Palin book of Political Philosophy - Ivan Pope via twhirl
Not judging perspective, but Bush was proud not to listen to news and katrina happened under his nose. They had to basically put a You Tube style of clips in front of him so he could figure out what was happening. I am very concerned about someone who doesn't expose themselves to news that doesn't filter through their handlers. They should not be so easily controlled. - Eric @ CS Techcast
Dan: "get in trouble"??? with who? even if she said National Review Online, Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, she still would have covered her ass on the right-wing side. Hell, I'm not running for anything (yet) and read those all the time. I wouldn't even expect her to read them everyday, but at least be able to list something. - Faboo Mama
Has anyone bothered to check if she can read at all? Illiterate VP overcomes diversity..wins election and hearts of Americans. Interesting strategy. - Matt Musgrave
I just brought myself to watch this clip. My God. Seriously? Seriously? Are they for reals? Seriously? How Katie didn't just stop the strolling and say point blank "Please, just name one newspaper you read.", I'll never know. Although, the look on her face was awesome. Your face said it out loud Katie. - Yolanda
I'm sick of giving her the benefit of the doubt. She's had how long to prepare and CAN'T NAME A SINGLE NEWSPAPER IN THE US?? Any other position where she's this clearly mismatched (scratch that, unqualified) for the role, ANY OTHER POSITION, and she would have been laughed out of the room. This is completely ridiculous. - Chieze Okoye
w. Sadly Tina Fey's excellent parody is straight up. She doesn't need to presenhy wouldst a caricature, just the real thing... she get into trouble for naming a newspaper. That's ridiculou - Tim Wolters via twhirl
"all of em" she read all of them. - MG Siegler
Palin is a near Dubya-grade imbecile :( - Tim
Ok, we all agree. Not smart. Perhaps the title should be: "Sarah Palin Can't Name a Newspaper She Doesn't Read." What would your alternate video title be? - Jason Shellen
"I think the Onion has some great insight" But seriously, say WSJ, NYT, Washington Times - heck you'd even get points for USA Today. - AJ Kohn
If she says 1 particular newspaper, then people will drill down on that paper and assume that is the only place she gets her information from... and if she says 1 newspaper, the moment she has an opinion about something all media will be able to link it to one newspaper and its potential biases. She answered the question strategically here. I don't mind the answer. - Mike
She is totally in touch with the "microcosm of America" -- who actually reads newspapers or magazine anymore anyway? Reading is for lefty wimps. - Pete Delucchi
c'mon, she pretty much said she only reads what is put in front of her (at this point by Republican party handlers), which to me is actually worse than not saying "all of 'em" or "getting in trouble" for name dropping the wrong ones. basically it says she reads only what someone tells her too. I could never support someone that has this little curiosity about the world. - Jon Price
This reminds me of a sign here in Austin, http://www.flickr.com/photos/r... :) - Tim
I think a bird that makes on a newspaper could name it. - Steve Rubel
I think it's amazing that people are actually trying to explain this away. Seriously, you guys? - Chieze Okoye
Wow, people still use newspapers to keep in touch with what's going on in the world? - Michael Pick via twhirl
WOW! Did she name names after this clip? Or was this the end of the question ? - Sumit Chachra
C'mon, people, she reads all of them! Any of them! - Dror Shimshowitz
