Listening to the podcast now. Who's the guy with the accent? :) Nice to hear Cyndy laughing. The question ... Why am I listening to this at 1:30 AM? - Charlie Anzman
the gentleman with the accent is Duncan Riley - Steven Hodson
I know.... Was just kidding. I'm going over to your place to post something. You're not gonna believe it. - Charlie Anzman
Now see, I was going to say that the guy with the accent was Hodson. He's Canadian, for Pete's sake! They ALL have accents. Duncan was totally understandable. ;) - Cyndy
Also... wait a second... people think I don't laugh??? I laugh all the time. - Cyndy
I'd love to listen to this, but there's no link to the episode, or rss feed for the podcast shown, or anything?! - Matt Harwood
Sorry, Matt... should have thought of that. It's embedded on the Profy post. I'll send the embed code to Hodson and Duncan... just assumed they could grab it as well from the site. - Cyndy
Many thanks, Mark! No feed for easy iPod'in, though? ;-) - Matt Harwood
No problem, Cyndy ;-) I just seem very grouchy on Saturday mornings! Will listen now, especially looking forward to the "laughing" !! - Matt Harwood

@Dobromir .. I am so fucking pissed right now - my host did some moving bewteen servers and while I'm waiting for a reply from them for now the last two weeks of the blog and the forums is missing. I am not a fucking happy camper at this point - Steven Hodson
sure hosting companies can be pain in the ass, I've seen u having issues before, maybe u should kick those guys out and go on with life before u become a big blogger oh wait u are already big ;-) - Dobromir Hadzhiev

Maybe she's going to be Lisa Loeb, Librarian someday - Kaia
Lisa Loeb is also a knitter, so I guess she's somewhat compatible with librarianship. - Julian

One hit wonder... - Wilma Stoneflint
That's one more hit than I've had. How many hits have you had, Wilma? - Joshua M. Neff
Wilma - Define "hit". The Grateful Dead had one number #1 song and they are the most influential band of all time, IMO. - Steven M. Cohen
And she can knit! I can't sing or knit. - rochelle hartman
None, but I once sat next to Kim Deal on an airplane. - Wilma Stoneflint
I love one hit wonders! Many examples of great 1HWs. Comprise 30% of my ipod. - Wilma Stoneflint
Well, Kim's a big deal! (Har har har.) - Joshua M. Neff
But she's still a one hit wonder... - Wilma Stoneflint
One hit wonders are half of my collection. They tend to be artists/bands with substance greater than the crap that top 40 radio listeners prefer. They also tend to be folks that are popular for their music, not for their tabloid features. - Anna Creech
A good portion of my music collection are bands that never had one single hit. - Joshua M. Neff
And, in this case, Lisa Loeb has had a few more "hits" than just one song. http://twurl.nl/opfit6 - Anna Creech
I love librarians. I almost made it to Anaheim last week... - Wilma Stoneflint
We love you, too, Wilma. :) - Joshua M. Neff

what you want is something i've been crying for, for years & its data poritablity - sam via twhirl
Yeah, but I want automagic data portability. I want it to go on in the background. I don't even want to know it's there. I just want to click a button to sign up for a service and be done with it. Or better yet, have my IA sign up for the services it figures I'd be interested in, and then just show me the best content from said services. - Tad Donaghe
Tad: join our sect. I'll be your guru there! :) http://friendfeed.com/rooms/da... - directeur via NoiseRiver
Go go social graph. - Eric Florenzano
Again directeur - I support the movement, I'm just bored by it. Just make it work. ;) The internets is for dumping awesome into the truck of utility. - Tad Donaghe
Tad, I myself already using some of its techs in my products :) If you're a dev do so too, if not pass the message :) - directeur via NoiseRiver
One thing I was wondering along this same vein, are there ajax widgets or something that you could put on your blog/site and allow people to subscribe/follow/digg/stumble/whatever you in one click? Must I visit the actual site every time? - Rahsheen Porter
I'd LOVE That Rahsheen! That'd be an excellent intermediate step. I think too many sites are still too worried about attention focusing. They WANT you to visit their site to stroke their ego, ads, etc - Tad Donaghe
I don't see why something like this doesn't exist for all social sites. You are adding the person so that you can interact with them at a later time on that service, so they shouldn't care if you hit the site to add them as a "friend." The "+friend" buttons on Digg work exactly how I want, I would just rather them be on MY site and work for every social network. - Rahsheen Porter
I was just twitter-moaning the same thing when I saw this in FF, some of you want leaps and bounds, I'd be happy if I could just join a new network and have all my accounts/contacts automagically connected - Scott Bannon via twhirl
actually, it seemed like swurl did that automatically... - edythe
Ya, we do, check us out http://www.swurl.com/ We try to do as much magic as we can for you, computers are suppose to be smart aren't they? - Ryan Sit
i was just about to say, I dig that swurl and feedly just kind of did that. I haven't gotten on board with feedly yet but I like the concept. Find me. Don't make me find myself. - Jason Toney
it is my hope to built it... and then "they" will come :) - Larry via twhirl
I want a FireFox plugin that auto logs me in to all the websites I use. I think that would do a lot of good. It seems like this would be possible but no one has written one! - Stefan Hayden
I still think this is like asking GM to make your key fit in a Toyota, cause you only want to carry one key. Most of these services are competitors. No (successful) business makes it easier for you to move to a competitor. - Brian Norwood
Brian, one of the reasons I don't use more web services is exactly because I'm sick of signing up for them and manually re-adding all my friends. If sites want us to use them they can either better make it brain dead simple or offer a service so compelling that we're willing to do the hard stuff. For many competitors who don't offer something that much different, an auto-subscription thing that I'm talking about would allow them to attract many more users. - Tad Donaghe
Tad, I don't dispute the truth of your statement, or deny I suffer from sign-up fatigued as well. I'm just saying it doesn't fit any business model I've ever seen to help you easily move to a competitor. What we need is a third party service who keeps track of our info and our friends, then custom shoe horns that stuff into each new service that pops up. THAT would be handy. Open ID is too passive. What we need is a sign up SERVICE. - Brian Norwood
would love to be able to import all my flickr contacts, have them match up with FF accounts where possible and create imaginary friends for the rest which would be replaced by their actual accounts as they joined over time. - Thomas Hawk
Right Thomas - and you ought to be able to do that just by clicking a single button that says "Import my contacts." Or at the very least have a single button and a drop down - Import -> Flickr - Tad Donaghe
I really like swurl, haven't messed with feedly yet, but even with swurl I had to manually input all of my account names/URL's/etc. to bring everything together. It wasn't hard, but it wasn't automagic either. Brian mentioned OpenID as too passive, I disagree with that and think user data could be expanded to contain the social network connections you have, then when you join a new service with your OpenID that service could automagically grab everything for you in the background. I'm not pushing for OpenID as the answer, just saying that's one possibility that wouldn't be overwhelming to achieve. - Scott Bannon via twhirl
I was really impressed with how well swurl worked. - Jason Wehmhoener
concur on swurl doing that automatically via each service - doubt i'll live in it like tend to in ff but it is a cool environment - mike "glemak" dunn
I'm probably the only one who uses rather different sets of “friends” on each network. - Amit Patel
Isn't this what gnip is supposed to do? Also, about swurl -- I would say it's been working a LOT of magic, it added a TON of friends of mine on different services. Ryan - Could you consider some bulk-editing tools for the friends tab? Like "mute all people not on swurl", for example? - J. Phil
Agreed that swurl is fantastic behind the scenes once you enter in your account names/url's for each service... what I'd like to see though is a hubbed identity source so that when you join a new service you don't have to enter your FF username, your Twitter username, your FB feed url and etc. Just let me click "join" and find me--and my connections--everywhere. - Scott Bannon via twhirl
Also, if it gets too magical, you get a service like spokeo. It's kinda scary. - J. Phil
But the point of new social networks is to shed all your stupid non-friends! - ⓞnor
I still want people to be able to add me without leaving my website. Isn't that what AJAX is for, after all? - Rahsheen Porter
How about being able to sign up for disparate services/sites here on FF and automatically have all subscriptions updated in said service and automatically have said service's content spewed out here in FF? I want FF to be my primary hub for all things internets. - Tad Donaghe

Reasons why we don't regularly backup. Too lazy = 100% - possible248
that's not true.. tons of people are still too non technical to know better! - Stefan Hayden
I really think the only really good backup system will be one where the OS we're using does it for us automagically. It will upload the files to a server which will them break them into tiny pieces and redundantly copy them all over everywhere. If a file is lost you'll be able to retrieve it bit torrent style. - Tad Donaghe

Why does everything have to be a killer? I signed up but it looks like Twitter circa its birth versus a new concept. I guess the kill could be the code behind the site, if there is such a kill. - Jennifer Leggio

They should call it Ishmael. - Jay Tannenbaum
Jennifer : I'd hazard a guess that the (misguided) male instinct to "kill" or "overpower" has a lot to do with it. I've not met a businesswoman that has ever said the word killer... but maybe I'm wrong. - Matt Harwood
Because someone needs to put Twitter out of its misery ? - Michael C. Harris
think you might be missing the joke - Christian Anderson
Jeez, Louise. Whadya say we wait and see if it can operate for 24 hrs without going down now that there's some real load on it or see if it can provide Jabber support for more than a week first (unlike Plurk). BTW, I can't get it to send me a Gtalk conf code. - Ken Sheppardson
We're on a whale hunt, Jennifer. A fail whale hunt. - Kambiz Kamrani
Christian - I got the joke. I'm just sensitive to the word "killer" since everything is called a killer these days. It's losing its meaning. Like "market leading" and "best in class." ;-) - Jennifer Leggio
Jennifer, the biggest point: as much as Indenti.ca isn't brilliant, it just changed the rules. Open source code, anyone can host, cross communications. Even if it fails, it just gave the world decentrazlied microblogging, and once enough ppl on enough services (note multiple) are tied into this, Twitter is dead. Indenti.ca won't do it alone...but it doesn't have to, it's the start of something bigger. Identi.ca is the freedom seed - Duncan Riley
maybe... as long as it doesn't look retarded or crash I'm interested, just kidding! - Susan Beebe
It can only be a killer if it proactively leverages it's synergies with market leading solutions. - Andrew Smith
Susan, the best thing: if it does crash, you find someone else running it :-) I'm betting (presuming the code is usable) that we'll see another compatible provider in a week (I'm also betting Dave Winer is already testing the code), and possibly 4-5 within a month. Every single host is a cut to Twitter. - Duncan Riley
Thanks for the link love Duncan. I agree totally. It's hard not to get excited about an open sourced, decentralized microblogging platform. I'll be watching this one very closely. - Bwana McCall
Duncan - Makes total sense, thank you. - Jennifer Leggio
Andrew - I needed that laugh. ;) - Jennifer Leggio
Identi.ca you have 15 seconds to cat herd all these geeks and make them of one satisfied mine...kthxbai! - Mark Forman
Duncan, does decentralized and open source microblogging mean i can theoretically have a version for my own online community? sorry, not a techie so trying to guess that's what you mean. - Christine Lu via twhirl
I think open source is significant here. There's been a lot of commentary from geeks about how to make Twitter better, and I think a lot of people will take a look. I'll certainly download the code and play around. The big thing though, iiuc, will be that services can talk to each other, and that you can simply change provider, keeping your friends, if yours starts to suck. We can all change to Jaiku but we lose our follow{ee,er}s. - Michael C. Harris
By looking at the source code it seems that it is DB driven. The same mistake that got Twitter in to the mess that it's in. - Gersham Meharg
Christine, in this case yes. I haven't checked out how hard it is to set up yet (and it's early days) but you could host your own service and this would link into every other service running compatible platforms. - Duncan Riley
It'll be nice when the identi.ca folks have had a chance to post more public info on the way the system works, but from a relatively quick review of the source and the OpenMicrobloggingProtocol spec, it doesn't appear the servers talk to one another unless you specifically subscribe to a users's profile on a server remote to yours. Once you establish that link, when the remote user posts a message to their server, their server pushes that message to yours. Like good old email, in a way. Just smaller msgs. - Ken Sheppardson
beginning to sound even more like IRC - Steven Hodson
