Now I know that FoaF doesn't work inside lists, I really wonder how many people see my likes. :| I always considered likes as a way of "forwarding" stuff, as a kind of "retweet" but better, because my subscribers would have direct access to the original item.
Did I mention I hate the concept of "Reshare"? It's ugly. It's a bolt-on. - Meryn Stol
Interesting, I think of Likes as a bookmarking tool for myself. Realized my subscribers saw it, but was thinking it was more like subscribing to someone’s Delicious feed. - Christine Dattilo
Well, on FriendFeed, everyone is subscribed to your Delicious feed as well. :) If someone's likes start to annoy you, you can always hide them on a per-user basis (or yes, globally), just like you can with some people's or everyone's Delicious entries. - Meryn Stol
Reshare's really add noise, because there's no way of distinguishing a "reshare" from a regular post. It's all plain-text. Really bad feature, imo. - Meryn Stol
Meryn, I only use reshare to push a few items to my home feed from my private group which has many feeds. - Greg Guitarbuster
If you Reshare and it goes to twitter, it will reference the original post I think. May help? - Drew Lucas
Meryn: I'm a little confused here. When someone I'm subscribed to likes/comments on a post from a person I'm not subscribed to, that post shows up in whatever list I have that friend in. Isn't this foaf? - Matsis
Drew, so do "likes" if you publish them to Twitter. But I'm not really interested in Twitter.. - Meryn Stol
Greg, I think "like" should work for that use-case also. And yes, I know it doesn't, and I think this sucks also. :) - Meryn Stol
Matsis, someone else told me the same today... This doesn't work for me this way. - Meryn Stol
hmmmm...I wonder why.. - Matsis
I have a theory: MAYBE FoaF entries can be enabled on a per-list basis, but the UI option is missing in the new UI. Your lists might "predate" the FF beta. Is that correct? - Meryn Stol
I have made my lists with the new beta. - Meryn Stol
Matsis, when did you made your lists? - Meryn Stol
No I'm pretty new to FF so most of my lists came after the beta. I'll make a new one now to test it though. - Matsis
I made a new list with http://friendfeed.com/isthiss... to test. No joy. When I add her to my home feed though, the FoaF entries show up fine. - Meryn Stol
Matsis, how did you fare? - Meryn Stol
Confirmed. Made a new list with only you in it. Only saw your direct posts - none of your likes or comments on posts not initiated by you. Added Louis Gray and Scoble for obvious reasons. Sam deal. Weird. - Matsis
How did you create your original lists? Maybe with the old interface? - Meryn Stol
I became more active here right around the introduction of the beta so I'm not positive. Especially with what we're seeing, I'm starting to think your guess as t why this is happening is correct. These are probably 'old' lists. - Matsis
That means there's hope for the future then... Maybe there's only some UI missing. But even then, the default of lists (FoaF default on or off?) will make a huge difference. Right now, it seems to default to "off" (and without any way of turning it on, but I suppose that's gonna change). - Meryn Stol
You know it's interesting. I consider foaf a very useful feature, but if it wasn't for you I'd have no idea I was missing it in some of my lists (those I don't check too closely). It just happened that it's 'on' where it matters most for me. - Matsis
Matsis: And I only noticed it today. Sometimes it's quite hard to see something's missing. - Meryn Stol
FoaF now visible in lists I created prior to beta. See photo of options for hiding http://friendfeed.com/ppotter... - Polly Potter
Meryn I reshared this to my feed just to try to grok your point about the source not being obvious There is the 'via....' link, so it's not all plain text but there's no obvious indication who the original poster was.EDITED: the via link has now gone from ff.im to friendfeed.com/meryn. Much better I think. But the comments don't transfer so it's a fork in the conversation. - Matsis
Thanks for the info Polly. I think we have made a good diagnosis now. - Meryn Stol
FoaF is the best FriendFeed feature IMO. Just blogged about that today. - AJ Kohn
good point - anna sauce
