But I get the feeling that commercials wouldn't be as profitable.

What were they doing? (Also: I hear commercials all the time on SCETV. Which is why I don't even consider giving them money.)

Apparently, there's a "turn your friends in" campaign where Ira Glass calls someone that their "friend" turned in and tapes the conversation. I know they think it's cute and clever. But it felt like a real pushy invasion of privacy. I wonder how many times he got hung up on before they got a call they could use.

I'm Carl Kasell with NPR News and I'm hiding in the bushes in front of Susan R. Roberts home in the lovely Pinewoods suburb of Billings, Rhodes Island. Susan hasn't pledged to her local station in three years, so NPR has sent me here armed with a billy club and a sock full of quarters.
- James (@willia4)
As you can hear, her screams are satisfying; but not as satisfying as the pair of David Sedaris tickets you'll recieve for pledging at the $100 level. Which you'll do right now, won't you, Mr. Jack Thompson of Coral Gables, Fl.?
- James (@willia4)
"C'mon Susan, we *know* you've got money. We have your FICO score right here. Stop being stingy. Alright, you want to play it that way? We just announced over the PA system at your kid's school what a CHEAP ASS you are. What?"
- Paul Reynolds
For some reason, Terry Tate Pledge Linebacker has popped into my head. @willia4 You may have a good premise for your Ira Glass impression now. ;o)
- Paul Reynolds
I don't think I could write anything creepier than the real thing.
- James (@willia4)
I dare them to call me. I shifted all of the money I used to give them several years ago. 1. I stopped listening on a daily basis. 2. The money now goes to organizations like the food shelf (every dollar buys $9 in food) and other humanitarian efforts. If you think CarTalk is more important than feeding hungry people, I'll be happy to take the call and explain that to Ira Glass.
- J Wynia
We got a call from them (not Ira) but it was very polite. When I explained I was giving every other year so that the amount we had budgeted would meet my companies doubled donation limit they thanked me and that was it.
- David Knight
Wow. Sigh. I'm not a listener, but I think that would really turn me off. Although, I admit it would also probably work on me.

Felix - really? Er...can I have your phone number? ;)
