Goleta is very close to where I went to college (UCSB). They had terrible fires there about 18 years ago so it really sucks that they're going through this again. - Mike Doeff
Reminds me of when this same thing happened in...94 I think. Bad to see... - Jim Stanger
Was it 90? Perhaps I'm thinking of the Malibu fires in 94. - Jim Stanger
I used to stay up at night in 94 and watch it; I know it is terrible, but I found the night shots of the fires a kind of beautiful - RAPatton
"The sun peers through the smoke from the Gap fire, seen from Stearns Wharf in Santa Barbara. In adjacent Goleta, residents of more than 1,600 homes had been ordered to evacuate by Thursday night. In some cases, the fire was just a mile from residences." - Mike Doeff via Bookmarklet

“OK, enough jokes about the Twitted maintenance window. They're down again. I get it. Isn't there another dead horse that we can beat?”
LOLCATS, Bush approval ratings, high gas prices, Yahoo being clueless - anything but this Twitter maintenance, peope jumping ship from Twitter, bla, bla, bla! - Mike Doeff
"Save money by pre-purchasing gas at today’s prices, then fill up with your MyGallons Card when prices rise. No matter how high prices at the pump will go, the price of the gallons you’ve purchased will be locked-in." - Mike Doeff via Bookmarklet
I don't know how long this has been around but I wish I had pre-purchased $1,000 worth of gas last year at $3 / gallon - Mike Doeff
The thing is, it's always a gamble. You're gambling that gas prices are gonna keep climbing. I would rather figure out ways to drive less than take this kind of leap. - Tsega D
Yeah the solution is to stop using gas, not spend less on it. $3 gas is still absurd for Americans to pay. Alternatives (plural) need to be found and frankly high gas prices might just create the necessity that breeds invention. Also, how can MyGallons make money with this plan? Regardless, use less gas AND less money. - thepete
"One of my contacts on Twitter got access to the 2.0 software and was able to connect to his Exchange server. So maybe the Enterprise Data Plan won't be required after all." - Mike Doeff
"The mechanics of diminutive Tim Lincecum -- looks 18, throws 98 -- are more than an act of violence, they're a marvel of modern science. Unconventionally honed by his father, that delivery has produced the most fascinating ace of his generation" - Mike Doeff via Bookmarklet
So far I've added a couple of drop.io feeds, NPR All Songs Considered, and Coverville (podcast). Let me know if you have a favorite music oriented podcast and I'll add the feed. - Mike Doeff
"Good points Casey. There's also the scenario where someone wants to use their current iPhone with the upgraded 2.0 software to access Exchange. Will that require an upgrade to the more expensive 3G Enterprise Data Plan for a phone that isn't even 3G? Hopefully this will all get clarified soon." - Mike Doeff
"Exchange costs $15/month more beyond that. The normal 3G iPhone data plan costs $30/month. Enterprise data costs $45/month. This buys you access to all the standard Exchange features. If you need to get Exchange mail, or access data inside your firewall, you're an enterprise user. AT&T isn't saying they'll disable ActiveSync and Exchange on normal iPhone plans for non-corporate users so we're unsure how they'll police this policy. Our Christina speculates that the enterprise plan sets up the server to accept exchange support; you could do IMAP from your exchange account but if you want non-MobileMe push, you gotta be on the enterprise tier plan." - Mike Doeff via Bookmarklet
Bummer! I'd heard plenty of rumors that the non-Enterprise plan would still support Exchange, but that's clearly not the case. Guess I'll be forwarding to MobileMe. - Wes Justice
"This Twist.com graph shows mentions of FriendFeed on Twitter over the past month. Notice the huge spike in the past few days. This correlates to Twitter disabling @ replies on Friday night. Also notice that the FriendFeed chatter dropped off significantly when @replies were enabled yesterday." - Mike Doeff via Bookmarklet
Mike, now you can view all data back to March 14. There are three peaks: 196 (3/27), 221 (5/22) and 354 (6/28). - Russellreno
Russell, it would be interesting to look at all of the spikes and compare it to extended Twitter downtime's over that past few months. I've seen the Twitter pingdom reports - http://www.pingdom.com/reports... - but I haven't seen it plotted on a graph. - Mike Doeff
I just graphed Twitter with FF, the Tw, Down, FF, then Tw is Down, FF. It didn't show any trends. - Russellreno
This is cool. It's a last.fm station based on the combined musical taste of the FriendFeeders who have jouned the FriendFeed group on last.fm - Mike Doeff via Bookmarklet
