I cannot figure out how to pay less than $100 to file my two state tax returns, after completing my federal return with a company who will charge $100 for two state tax returns.

In CA you can e-file directly with the state, not using a tax software company. Of course, that means you have to do al the figuring yourself. Your state doesn't offer direct e-file? - Spidra Webster

Noted here for posterity, and in case this shows up in Google: I was wrong (or misled and subject to a vast internet coverup conspiracy?), and only people using tax preparation software have to e-file in NY State. - Meg V. Meg
