I do to, and I'm sorry to even kid. I'm sure Twitter is being attacked constantly from various directions, from hackers to script kiddies to governments. I'm impressed they hold up as well as they do.
- Kevin Fox
I think we all share Kevin's views. The timing of Ev's share was very unlucky. But nobody wants this kind of trouble. They have been stressed to the limit with growth, which in theory is a good problem to have, and they are maturing. Tonight was a rare exception to recent continued good news.
- Louis Gray
Do the have a huge whale on top of their office?
- Jemm
LOLLLLL Onwards + Upwards to IRIDIUM!!
- Billy Warhol
I see Twitter being down, for many folks, like a power outage. Everyone stops... rubs their eyes, looks around, and eventually picks up a book. :)
- Louis Gray
Pretty much. I was polling people about something, but I guess I could go... uh...
- Jolie O'Dell
I am mainly curious to see if Google/Feedburner will automatically tweet my new blog post now. That's why I even found out, because I checked.
- Louis Gray
Yes, Atul. (See the Google Reader share on my feed)
- Louis Gray
Louis - my bad. Was lazy not to scroll down to the bottom of the screen :)
- Atul Arora
...and I'm sure FriendFeed, Facebook, and Google Reader are seeing increased traffic just right now.
- Claudio Sennhauser
I got an error from DISQUS when I posted to your blog
- Ankush Narula
Totally. Where else we gonna go? FriendFeed is, in that sense and to some people, like Twitter's less hot but totally more willing friend. Dang.
- Jolie O'Dell
Ankush, I got your comment, successfully.
- Louis Gray
Tech Crunch: "Update III: It is suggested that if you use the same password on your Twitter account with other accounts, now would be a good time to change your password on those other accounts. Because of the scale of this hack, it can only be assumed right now that Twitter has been completely compromised."
- David Damore
Louis, yes, it's practically required now - MaryB voted on it!
- Micah
Somehow, I just got a new Twitter follower 1 minute ago. :)
- Louis Gray
Well not completely. For my main use of Friendfeed, it's not. I use FF to update Twitter accounts (several) from Yahoo Pipes, and it stopped working almost 24 hours ago.
- Ignace Rodriguez de R,
FailWhale and 503s are already embarrassing but getting hacked? Really, Twitter? REALLY? I am so embarrassed for them. LOL

Josh: "Brushing your teeth twice a day helps reduce potential for cavities."
- Louis Gray
We used to think tooth decay was caused by S. Mutans, a new study out of Stanford blames tooth decay on Drew's cancer.
- Greg Birch
Louis, I'll let that one slide. I think I am more specifically against the word "Introducing" in ads. I mean, it's not a person. And most ads are new things, so it's redundant and stupid, maybe even condescending. Just say, "Dayum, this stuff is great! Buy some!" and be done. I am such a marketer, huh.
- Josh Haley
Guy, do they have an API? I can think of some great uses for SocialToo for that service.
- Jesse Stay
My use case is when speaking. Instead of hoping people go home and go to Alltop bec I asked them to. I am going to ask them to text "alltop" to 44133 and capture them right there.
- Guy Kawasaki
API: I have no idea. I'm just a marketing guy.
- Guy Kawasaki
Cool idea Guy, fast user engagement - love that. Also like the options, user can pick their "passions"

For every speech that I make, I will customize the reply text for the audience. Eg, real estate brokers will be pointed to http://real-estate.alltop.com/
- Guy Kawasaki
This is only my second time on FF. I'm afraid that FF would suck me in too much. If Twitter is a time sink, FF is a swimming pool.
- Guy Kawasaki
Guy - I like how you really thought this out so carefully. Nice balance between providing highly useful content to your audience and promotion of your site
- Susan Beebe

Depends on their implementation of the idea. Personally, I'm more excited about Wave based on what I know about the two, which I admit is very little.
- Bryan Bartow
I have a Wave sandbox, and it IS awesome! The announcement has to be related to the new OS or android
- Keith Barrett
Keith, if it's what I'm talking about then it is neither.
- Bryan Bartow
Bryan: hummmmm. Now I'm more tortured
- Keith Barrett
In the interest of full disclosure, my information is two levels removed from the source. Google -> vendor -> me. Still, I trust the source and when the idea was told to me it sounded very plausible.
- Bryan Bartow
I hope it's Google Base integration with Open Social widgets!
- Mitch
@manuel I just came back from Win7 ship party and i am astonished that how many man years does it take make a OS.
- Ruchit Garg
My team was actually asked to work on the project, but we unfortunately had to decline. It definitely would have been a cool project.
- Bryan Bartow
Ruchit: I understand, just speculating. Yet considering it sounds like a Linux distro running Chrome, it does not sound all that impossible.
- Manuel Mas
Maybe its the ability to call up contacts list when composing a message. That would be groundbreaking. :/
- JCunwired
When I first heard about Wave, I thought big deal, chat and email. But after watching the entire presentation, I see it could replace Email, IM, IRC, Forums, Blogs and their commenting systems, etc.. and put it all in your 'INBOX'
- Tim Hoeck
from Android
Google AdSense on the new Coca-Cola Freestye soda dispensers?
- RAD Moose
@Abhishek Nope. Not hardware related if it's what I'm thinking.
- Bryan Bartow
I'd be willing to bet it is mobile-related.
- Tinfoil 2.0
Google shoul create a highly robust social media platform that integrates Google's products: profiles, mail, calendars, chat, voice, picassa, blogger, gReader, search, latitude, maps - that is what I would build :)
- Susan Beebe
from BuddyFeed
I'm just going to call it gootopia (or should it be googtopia. hmm)
- Micah
from iPhone
Susan, I think that is happening already, bit by bit. Every month there are new capabilities and integration points. I'm optimistic on that front.
- Tinfoil 2.0
I was dreaming about getting access to wave now something new and better?!!!
- Mostafa Lameei
Mostafa: There's always something new and better coming from every front.
- Manuel Mas
Logical - Google product integration has way more potential than they have currently in production now. I see layers of useful and revenue generating features and improvents. The potential roadmap I see for this is highly disruptive and needed.
- Susan Beebe

If I had to guess, I would say 1) some type of Youtube Appliance (=Apple TV done right) or 2) Google News 3.0 (shifting from news to a discovery engine). The TV thing is probably bigger and somewhere they have a big competitive advantage with Youtube.
- Edwin Khodabakchian
USB plug in directly to right ear download contents of mental zipper - ready to upload to friends
- PookyMedia
Another big opportunity besides realtime communication is media streaming so my guess is a Silverlight-like (RIA) platform with special focus on adjustments dependent on the device used for consuming and open enough that augmented reality innovations will play nice with current "standard" codecs
- Alberto Saavedra
Google Web Drive, under the "Cosmo" codename. Read Blogoscoped or GOS. I think Ionut told me he expects Cosmo to be launch before Sept.

Google Web Drive would be cooler, in a way..ve.
- Nick Humphries
"Google buying FF" - Noooooo! It will just get killed like some of the other high profile acquisitions they have made.
- travispuk
@Allen I love the concept, @Travis google killed the app that were at their first stage of development, FF is 85% finished (mean completed) the rest 5% will be user innovation, so even if Google buy FF they will not change a line in the code or the architecture.now who is the firt to like this post?!! what did Greader this week? who from Greader left the office to go to FF? too many question!!
- abdellah
but let be clear, all the above are just speculation.
- abdellah
Nope Abdellah. Cosmo have been mentionned numerous times in official docs and in the code of some apps.
- Jérôme
from iPhone
@Jerome havn't understand what do you mean by Cosmo
- abdellah
It has to be quantum computing. all computation done outside of time and space.
- Walter Logeman
I'm thinking Google Chrome with Native Client for super fast rendering of web applications (including Wave).
- George Moga
Introducing Google Goo: Making the web squishy, coming late 2009.
- DGentry
Won't be hard to be cooler than Wave. Yes, I'm not a big Wave fan: way too noisy, messy, unusable... Maybe I'll change my mind in the future but for now, I still don't get what we'll do with this stuff and I don't buy the idea.
- Pascal Thivent
Okay, here are my predictions. First, let me say that being cooler than Wave will be quite hard because that's pretty awesome (do you have sandbox access Pascal? Because I'm sure that will change your mind). (1) Google TV - Never mentioned anywhere officially and would definitely be cooler than most others, however VEVO is somewhat similar. (2) GDrive/Cosmo/whatever they call it - would...

The amount of web-based applications being delivered from Google is amazing. There is so much potential in Google voice apps, Google Wave, which will put their social apps on steroids and now an OS. If they can leverage their brand and fan base into these other verticals; they will be a force to reckoned with and a huge target for anti-trust regulators...
- Mark Harai
Google Cloud. In your pocket, on your desk, embedded ---anywhere, anytime at anyprice.
- Thom Kennon
Wow Thom - that actually does sound VERY cool...

Probably something to do with a more direct Windows competition. If you look at Google's recent products, many of them are meant to replace Microsoft products.
- William Mougayar

A multi-platform OS is the only thing in my mind that could top Wave. Can't wait to find out for sure though what this will be!
- Garin Kilpatrick
I bet it's the Gdrive after I've just paid for an extra 10GB storage on Google. Would be cool to be able to access all my files from any google app, so I could add a picture from picassa webalbum or embed a video of mine/ favourited without having to go to the other site and copy a URL. This would set it up nicely for google OS

It is a Google-branded reality distortion field developed in collaboration with Apple. The reality distortion field prototype is so strong that Eric Schmidt was forced to resign from the Apple board of directors, lest his field encounter that of Steve Jobs reulting in mutual annihilation in a devastating burst of pure energy.
- thegeniusfiles
That's a really interesting idea, Gabe. It seems to go a bit against the drive that Google Apps will reduce the need for IT departments though, so I doubt it.
- Californian
So, it compresses, it seems like it's uploading, but then it fails and says only that it can't complete the upload. This happens over and over. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.
- Robert Scoble
Talking of which, no background processes, either.....
- Roberto Bonini
from iPhone
The thing is, it happens on both WiFi and 3G. It happens if you turn off WiFi. It doesn't seem to matter how long the video is.
- Robert Scoble
Is this an iphone, network or youtube issue?
- Sean Scott
And worse, when it fails, you have to reenter all the metadata about the video again to try it again (title, description, etc). Aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh. This feature was definitely not debugged. Not to Apple's quality level. I guess this is what happens when Steve Jobs takes six months off.
- Robert Scoble
Sean: who knows? There's no information. I assume that because it happens on both WiFi and 3G that it's not a network issue. And, since I've never had a YouTube upload fail otherwise I assume it's not a YouTube issue. That leaves the iPhone. Buggy!
- Robert Scoble
Been trying to tell you about TweetReel geez ;)
- Colin
Apostol: I'm very close to getting an Android.
- Robert Scoble
Maybe it's linked to the Twitter DDOS thing? I'm still under DDOS lockdown.
- Colin
Colin: no. It has happened to me ever since I got the iPhone, not just in past week.
- Robert Scoble
Colin, you mean http://www.tweetreel.com/ -- but why should I have to pay $2.99 to get functionality that's already built into my phone? Sigh.
- Robert Scoble
I just tried uploading a video from my Iphone to YouTube and it worked. Might be AT &T problem? I am in Canada under Rogers contract for Iphone service.
- Shawna Bergen
I can tell that my suggestion to sync the vids using iTunes and then upload is stupid. But yeah. Yet Another Apple Complaint
- Roberto Bonini
from iPhone
Apple provides hardware, developers provide some of the software, that's the way it works with some things.
- Colin
I have not tried this feature, but having a 3G it's kind of moot anyway. The iPhone/AT&T juggernaut gets increasingly underwhelming with every passing day, every new "feature". I'd be on the Pre by now, but can't stand Sprint. Going to have to wait. Meanwhile I may just buy a regular phone to do things that phones do, you know, like make calls without getting dropped all the time.
- Laura Scott (@lauras)
I'm in the U.S. but I'm 99% sure it used my WiFi connection to handle the transfer.
- Carter ♥ HTML5
Apostol - What's the "best" Android option at this point (from a generally satisfied iPhone user but someone who really likes Google's tools and openness). . .?
- DaveFriesen
Colin: TweetReel doesn't upload existing videos, unfortunately. Carter: yes, sometimes it works. Which is why this is ultrafrustrating.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, it sure does upload existing videos heh.
- Colin
It's been happening to me for weeks too! Also uploading to MobileMe fails most of the time. And there is no 'retry'
- Cameron
As long as you still have them on your phone, right now Apple doesn't give a way to copy videos back to your phone (3.1 it may however)
- Colin
@Apostol I was just lusting over a few unlocked HTC Hero's to replace my iPhone. You might have put me over the top.
- Sam Harrelson
Yep, I've been waiting out for the Samsung or even the "cheap" Motorola Android's that are supposedly coming soon. Having had an iPhone for a while, I'm (at this point after the App Store mess) more concerned with using a device made by a company that treats me like an adult :)
- Sam Harrelson
I have had similar issues - but only with bigger files
- ben rogers
Apostol: Gotcha, thx for the info. Looking more like the Hero then!
- Sam Harrelson
Robert, I use new and old video to upload to youtube from 3GS all the time. Only issue is if I try when it flips to Edge.
- Alan Ashley
Is it a long video, because I just uploaded a short one 36 sec. without any trouble
- Kim Landwehr
Kim, I can't even upload a 15 second with a fail...
- Cameron
Use Pixelpipe for video uploads, you can send videos up to 200MB directly from the phone (without re-encoding) to over 50 services of their +100 support destinations
- Brett Butterfield
Worked fine for me with a 1:36 video. First time I tried.
- Otto
from iPhone
Weird, must be a hit or miss thing not good.
- Kim Landwehr
What also sucks is that there is no option to choose whether to upload the standard 4:3 footage or crop to 16:9 for upload. Although I guess it doesn't really matter if you can't upload it! :-)
- Cameron
On a related issue: Does anyone have trouble playing YouTube videos on their iPhone over WiFi?
- Barak B
If people are still having problems uploading to YouTube from iPhone, please direct message me w/ approx date/time and YouTube username so I can look into it.
- John Harding
IMO it seems that a lot of folks are trying to expose to the users a lot of the tech that goes on behind the scenes when deciding what will work or not. Hell, HTTP and HTML were impossible to deploy and scale until a lot of folks got Apache working so that it was deployable in small and large scale situations. Yes, I know i'm talking about 15 yrs ago, but that's where I see XMPP and...

- Tharique Azeez
Bear, why not read The Scobe's feed, and then write your comment as a blog post, and link back to it?
- Mike Shields
Mike, I read a lot of what scoble generates :) -- what i'm talking about is all of the ideas in my head to make/enable xmpp to be as simple/scalable as http for real-time web clients. Getting *that* info out onto a blog post.

And of course I heard: You've got Ton as follower...
- Ton Zijp
On Twitter, they listen to me if I @ mention them. Those who retweet, though, usually aren't following me -- yet. On FF, though, not enough people follow me yet; but then, I'm still new.

That wacky Scoble...of course we're listening...and waiting for another pink wig to be donned.

Why doesn't Google Docs support pptx? Also, please don't email me pptx files :) - Edit: apparently it now supports docx, so my question and request is now limited to pptx...
Plain text... it's the only thing that will still be readable in 100 years.
- Tinfoil 2.0
LE, tell that to people who wrote in plain text 200 years ago.
- Akiva
My inlaws send me family photos in pptx files. Not even slideshows, just the jpgs dragged and dropped into a pptx file and sent away. I wonder if it's progress. Two years ago, they were sent in doc files.
- Antonio Yon
I really like pptx for presentations, powerful stuff. But whats weird, I am working with some japanese project managers and they use .ppt for notetaking in meetings, with all of these complex embed tables and than laugh at me because google docs can't open it correctly. Trying to get them to type in a wiki we can all read and write is impossible. So we emaill .ppt files around :)
- Robert Higgins
It doesn't? Even my iPhone seems to support PPTX files so it is weird to hear Google Docs doesn't.
- Dare Obasanjo
I like the idea, but not the name. Seems kind of bias right off the bat. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the innovation that Google brings to the table, but to name the freakin' show after Google?? Can you tell that I am a big fan of Dvorak :)
- rodney.franklin
Think it was a big mistake to put the name "google" in the title, but will probably be a great show anyways.
- Steven Legault
this is great, so much to talk about, and so much to learn. I think most people have no idea the range of services that are emerging from both Google and Amazon related to cloud services that will be invaluable for the small or start-up business as well as consumers....

Can't wait! A new and exciting podcast for a new and exciting era of computing!

- Richard Bitting
Can't wait, Leo! I'll subscribe immediately. This is an excellent topic and I'm really glad to see the best podcast network on the Internet jumping right in to cover it.
- Eric Geller
I'm really interested to see how this show goes. This is a big topic heading into our future.
- Mike Nayyar
I'm not fond of the "Google" in the name either, it's like calling a car show "This Week in Gerneral Motors". But I'll try to listen in to the taping anyways, should be funny & knowledgable with the three of you.
- Martin
This sounds like a good show, and nice graphics! But how do you have time leo?! Sometimes during somewhat slow news weeks there is some overlap in news like macbreak and twit which can sometimes be annoying but still great shows as I'm sure this one will be as well. WIll jeff and gina always be there or more of a twit interchangeable style?
- Denis Dervisevic
Looking forward to it, I love your other shows and Gina Trapani is great.
- Brandon Eaker
All things Google. Not all things Twitter? LOL Should be interesting. I was listening when you spoke of this show as a, maybe. I'll be there.

Ready to listen to the big three Windows Weekly, MacBreak Weekly and This Week in Google...TWiT is in a class by itself.

Google is taking over the world. Chrome OS = Android 2.0 for large laptop screens, Google Voice on Android and White Spaces will kill the $1 Trillion Telecom and ISP industry, you should talk about those ARM processor based netbooks that are coming out with Chrome browser in the next few months, they will take over the whole laptop market and start costing $150 with no contracts.
