I always sit on the window so I leave the armrest for the middle person. I can lean against the window and be quite comfy.

Since the middle seat is generally the most uncomfortable (except on the smallest planes) the armrest choice is sort of a perk for them.

Middle seat is my worst nightmare. But WestJet now charges for choosing a seat period (web purchase, anyway)—it's a sign of the airpocalypse.

I don't mind the armrest part so much as the spillover of the arm over the armrest. Especially since its usually an elbow.
