Same basic idea as friendfeed_image_zoom http://friendfeed.com/fftools... userscript, but with a few compatibility improvements and all the Chrome Web Store auto-update goodness. For Chrome users, it's recommended to uninstall yesterday's friendfeed_image_zoom userscript and install this one (however, nothing breaks if both are installed at the same time).

I'm a little confused now as to what to install and how, I use Google Chrome, Comodo Dragon which is based on Chrome's open source, and firefox, as sometimes always run in to bugs so hate relying on 1 browser these days. Do I install both fixes?
- Halil
I believe Comodo Dragon is compatible with scripts written for Google Chrome. If you can't install from the Google Chrome Web Store use the friendfeed_image_zoom version which works on both Firefox (with Greasemoney add-on) and Chrome-based browsers.

Hmmm, the Golden View add-on isn't working properly for me in Chrome 18. :( It opens a new tab with the FF Search menu.)

Oh, never mind. My "HTTPS Everywhere" seems to interfere with the script. Hmmm.

Micah, sorry to ask again, but still confused, in firefox how exactly do i check for updates, you said i need to install it manually, but will i be prompted when an update is available?
- Halil
Easiest is just install again right now (it installs over-top). I'll make an announcement post when I do future upgrades.

PEOPLE OF FRIENDFEED, I IMPLORE YOU IN ALL CAPS: *Install* *this* *script*
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
Sorry. That would require me to switch browsers. I'll just stick with not opening pix.

Firefox would be great, as not a fan of chrome. I seem to remember way back when on FF that when you clicked on a photo it came up, without all this preview nonsense, what happened? Despite Facebook's failings when you post something it links the text and descriptor of article neater, I'm pretty sure FF did this originally. For example a Youtube video would link with the text of the file instead of having to manually doing it...
- Jason
The brain surgeons still fumbling with keeping FF alive made a brilliant alteration to the programming to change the way photos open (you're right, they used to just open in your browser, like a normal friggin' website). Because we haven't suffered enough indignities on this site.

Jason, I made a Firefox version too (see first comment for link).

Thanks, Micah have downloaded the Zip file.
- Jason
Hookah, you reckon Facebook done this on purpose?
- Jason
Not sure what you mean. They purposely made the change, claiming it was a security thing. Beyond that, I don't know if they have any other intentions behind their actions.
- Hookuh Tinypants
Jason, the change was intentional - Ben Golub who still admins Friendfeed stated it was for security concerns. The technique in my script is safer than restoring the original behaviour, but brings back the convenience.
