Re: Hulu Buyers Would Get Exclusive Content, With Strings Attached - http://allthingsd.com/2011062...
"Hulu Plus is now the top VOD item on my TiVo. But I haven't subscribed yet because I am not convinced I would use it the way I do NetFlix. Adding an 8-day window on new shows isn't what I need to push me over the top, either. So I think I will wait a while longer to see how things shake out." - Michael K Pate

"There are two things about the story that I find most fascinating. The first was the fact that instead of creating an Internet pseudonym, he traded on his Public Persona in order to engage in these activities. And secondly, when it happened, rather than simply try and let it rest, he tried to use that same Public Persona to talk the story away instead of just trying to hide away and let it burn out. Hopefully everyone learned something from all of this and he will have the chance to put his life back together when he becomes a private citizen again in the near future." - Michael K Pate

Re: Judge orders U.Va. to release climate documents | David Sherfinski | Virginia | Washington Examiner - http://washingtonexaminer.com/local...
"My favorite sentence from the report that "exonerated" Mann - He also commented that he and other  scientists fear that the stolen emails will have a chilling effect on the way scientists  communicate with each other, partly because members of  the public may not appreciate  the lingo or jargon (e.g., "dirty laundry" or "trick") that scientists often use when  communicating with each other about their science.  What an eloquent way of saying that no one outside his tiny little circle of global-warming profiteers has any right to judge him. Hopefully these documents will go a long way toward determining the truth once and for all." - Michael K Pate

Re: Glenn Beck Has a New Site to Save the World…A Few Bucks - http://allthingsd.com/2011052...
"Is this news or just a slam on Beck? He is leaving Fox News because he wants to - his own media empire is growing - and is still going to be around, just doing special events. And were there unsold t-shirts? With a crowd that is estimated somewhere between 87,000 and 500,000, I hadn't heard that was an issue until now." - Michael K Pate

Re: Ron Schiller decides not to join the Aspen Institute - http://www.poynter.org/latest-...
"I can't site any example of them calling anyone names. But the fact that an organization that states in their mission they "foster values-based leadership, encouraging individuals to reflect on the ideals and ideas that define a good society, and to provide a neutral and balanced venue for discussing and acting on critical issues" is holding secret meetings in order to influence the outcome of Presidential elections (even if unsuccessfully) I find troubling. On August 6th, a week after the Democratic Convention, a clandestine summit meeting took place at the Aspen Institute, in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. - The Money Man" - Michael K Pate

"I did a reinstall of Windows 2000 Server on a box this week. I soon found out that IE5 is completely broken at Windows Update. But I searched around and found out that a manual install of IE6SP1 would enable me to visit Windows Update and initial the update process. But I have no intention of upgrading to IE7 - because Microsoft opted never to release it for 2000 machines." - Michael K Pate

Re: Pandora's Music Fees Are Huge! And Not That Bad. - http://mediamemo.allthingsd.com/2011021...
"> Spotify will exemplify why Pandora is the worst thing ever! If I understand it correctly since I have never used it, Spotify lets you pick out songs to listen to. What Pandora does is let you create your own radio station - you get songs you like, even if you have never heard them before. Both models can work, and seem to be working, where permitted by the archaic and failing business model of the recording industry. There are an infinite number of things I would list as "the worst thing ever" before I got to either Pandora or Spotify." - Michael K Pate
