"I've had that conversation way too many times. I agree with you completely." - Michael C. Harris

"While what you say is true, it's actually a really poor excuse. We're in this to build the best blogging platform that can be built, and we can't hide behind the fact that none of us have much time and aren't getting paid to do it. The reality is, no-one installing the software gives a rat's arse how the software gets built, they just want it to work well (and "work well" is glossing over all sorts of complexity and individual difference, of course). If the install experience is poor, we really need to pull our collective fingers out and fix it." - Michael C. Harris

"You're completely right, and I appreciate you taking the time to say why you've decided Habari isn't right for you at the moment. We are aware that the documentation is lacking at the moment, and there is work active to get the wiki more organised (see the wiki working group). We're also working on better management of themes and plugins (see the addons directory working group. As with all open source projects (that don't have paid, full-time employees, thanks Andy :) the way that these things happen is that people step up and do them. Communities around projects take time to develop, and there's ebb and flow as people get busy in life and $work. Any time you'd like to come back and be part of that community, we'd love to have you!" - Michael C. Harris

"Your involvement is a win for Habari, and shows even more strongly how important it is that open source projects are as inclusive and welcoming as possible. I think Habari does a pretty good job at that, but we can always improve." - Michael C. Harris

I didn't really understand point of this. Did he have the 'Install' page pre-filled and simply pressed 'Submit'. The he recorded the elapsed time to complete the action and render the page using some Web development tool that reported 12.4 seconds. Why is that interesting or useful to potential Habari users ? - Andy C
He's got an AppleScript that installs Habari. I guess useful if you were installing a lot of Habari. - Michael C. Harris

"I'm not going to completely discount the possibility of human goodness. Like I said in the post, I've had someone buy me a bus ticket before when things were difficult (I couldn't speak Farsi, so I couldn't tell them where I wanted to go). That was a very positive experience. Besides, and more importantly, when you're travelling you _need_ to trust people to a certain extent, especially in places where you don't speak the language. The alternative is to have a very dull travel experience." - Michael C. Harris

"Here's another option, my preferred; use svn whether you're using the stable version or HEAD.If you want to use a particular version use the tag for that version. For example, the latest stable is http://svn.habariproject.org/habari.... When there's a new release you can simply run svn switch to the new stable tag. It's also easy to merge specific changes from trunk into your working copy of a tag if there's something that's been fixed or improved that you want before a new release." - Michael C. Harris

is staying at the Whitehouse Hotel in New York City (NYC) until Thu 11/20. $36/day http://www.whitehousehotelofny.com
Chelsea Star Hotel, 300 West 30th Street, 10001, 212-244-7827, $22-30/night + tax/fees ($27.50 winter, $34 high season), $50+ for New Years http://starhotelny.com http://www.hostelworld.com/availab... (82%) http://www.hostelz.com/display... See FF link http://friendfeed.com/e... - Mitchell Tsai
Chelsea International Hostel, 251 West 20th Street, 10011, 212-647-0100 $28/night + tax/fees ($32) Nice spot on the west side in Chelsea. Police station just across the street, so very safe. http://www.chelseahostel.com/ http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteld... (73%) http://www.hostelz.com/display... See FF link http://friendfeed.com/e... - Mitchell Tsai
I don't recommend the Whitehouse for women. My other favorite hostels in NYC are the Chelsea International (251 W 20th St) at $32. Chelsea Star (300 W 30th St) $27.50-34 More international traveling crowd, and more mixed men/women. But I like staying closer to East Greenwich so I can listen to late-night music on Bleecher St, and walk home. - Mitchell Tsai

My wife and I stayed at the Chelsea Star on our one trip to NYC. I'd recommend it too. - Michael C. Harris
Michael: I'd say the Chelsea Star has the best "feel" of the three hostels I like. Unfortunately it's sometimes booked when the others have space. - Mitchell Tsai
Two great things happened when we stayed there. First, when we checked in some guy who was checking out had just left a museum pass with a full day on it with reception, so the friendly guy at reception gave it to us. Second, we drank beer in the courtyard, and it was awesome. - Michael C. Harris
Awesome! - Mitchell Tsai
How noisy is it with the thin walls? - Morton Fox
Super-noisy. Ear plugs absolutely necessary. The other 2 hostels are better if you're visiting NYC for the first time & want a fun experience. However, the location of the Whitehouse hotel is PRIMO for my favorite nightlife. - Mitchell Tsai

"It's really only been the last year and a half that I've started to seriously try to find music again, so I guess it's no surprise that I've missed those "many sites". Also, being an artist, you're probably more familiar with how the funding works from the artist's point of view. Anyway, it seems I was wrong about what thesixtyone is; it's more a discovery tool (a competitor to last.fm) rather than for music purchase (though it is possible to download or purchase some music)." - Michael C. "Thanks for the feedback, John. We're aware that finding themes and plugins is difficult at the moment, and we're working on making it easier. Hopefully we'll have something in place around the time of the 0.7 release. There are a number of ways to get the Autosave plugin. A zip file can be downloaded from the Habari web site, or you can access it through subversion at the extras repository I linked to above. The Subpages plugin is only available for 0.7 alpha (it won't work on 0.6 at all) and is considered alpha, but it can be download from the same place. If you've got any other questions, try the live help plugin I linked to above." - Michael C.
