Of course no-one is going to be "the next WordPress", and there are many things about the WordPress project that don't fit well into the Habari way of doing things. Still, that's a pretty unequivocal answer, Franklin. Care to expand ? - Michael C. Harris
@Michael - Nope.....jk.....I will expand. I have said before what is not an original concept. Competition in the end benefits the end users you and I. But, wordpress is great platform. Much easier than MT ever has been. Competition from something fresh and new like Habari will not form a replacement but simply add pressure and ideas for the wordpress devs. So essentially will Habari be the next wordpress? Nope...but that should not be its goal. - Franklin Pettit
Thanks, Franklin. You're absolutely right, competition can only help users. And you're right about the goals of Habari's developers, it's never been about replacing WordPress, it's about making the best system possible in the best community. And having fun, of course :) - Michael C. Harris
Fun in software development? Hmmm....does that still happen? :) - Franklin Pettit
Hopefully not. That's precisely why I am using Habari. - Andy C
I long for the day when blogging softwares would have repositories of plugins and would let me do one-click plugin installs. Something as fresh as Habari should probably look at that. - sameer
@sameer - Wordpress is adding one click installs in Wordpress 2.7. :) - Franklin Pettit
Nope, I don't think so. Wordpress is da best :P - Apostolos Papadopoulos
It's possible. Popularity doesn't confer the title of best. Just look at myspace. - Mo Kargas
Yes! I've been using it and checking out the code and it blows WP away in every way. The fact that it flawless imports WP into Habari is a huge win. It's only 0.6 and it's working perfectly. There's little that it doesn't do already. Everyone saying WP is great has obviously never looked at the code. It's a horrible mess. Habari is clean and efficient. I dumped my WP blog last year because it sucked so much. I'm considering launching another on Habari because it's so nice to work with. - ·[▪_▪]·

While there are a number of technical reasons that highlight the differences and advantages Habari has over other blogging packages, a major component of what makes Habari different is its community participation model. Users who demonstrate a level of quality contributions to the project are granted more privileges within the project. - Gary Burge
This is the thing I love about Habari; the participation doesn't have to be technical, it can just be about being a positive influence in the community. - Michael C. Harris

"Desiring a more open environment where individuals can contribute and extend the project with their own work, they designed a platform called Habari to utilize a unique community participation model. Within this model, users whose contributions are consistently of a high quality are granted more privileges within the project. What has resulted from their efforts so far is a next-gen blogging platform that may eventually give WordPress a run for its money." - Michael C. Harris via Bookmarklet

“I don't get it... why is "gay marriage" evil? Why is it wrong? Why is it bad? Srsly. If two people love each other THAT much and are THAT crazy to get married, why stop 'em because they both have ding-a-lings (or the lack thereof)?”
September 27 at 2:20 pm - Link
This is why I like Chris. He has the talent to be both wise and tacky in the same sentence. XD - Haggis (Sean)
Amen Chris. I fail to see how two people that want to make a commitment to each other threaten the marriages of other people. In a society where celebrities are married and divorced in a matter of hours, essentially making a mockery of the institution of marriage, the concept that gay marriage is a threat is ludicrous. - Kevin Bondelli
Some people believe that being gay is "evil" therefore to them gays getting marriage is "evil x 2" - Alex IHateMondays Scoble
good question for a fear meter ... - Gregory Lent
Actually, I heard an argument that allowing gay marriage means marriage is no longer special. Any benefits that may have been made available specifically for married couples would basically become pointless because anyone could just run off and get married just for selfish reasons. Now that I have typed it out, it sounds even more silly than when I first heard it. kThxBai - Rah™
“I'm a supporter of gay rights. And not a closet supporter either. From the time I was a kid, I have never been able to understand attacks upon the gay community. There are so many qualities that make up a human being... by the time I get through with all the things that I really admire about people, what they do with their private parts is probably so low on the list that it is irrelevant.” - Paul Newman - Corie "Viper" Jones
I agree... They have the right to be as miserable as the rest of... Plus, when Britney Spears can get drunk, give a guy a blow job and marry him in Vegas, only to have it dissolved 2 days later, how 'sacred' is the nature of marriage they are defending.. - John Worthington
It basically comes down to fear. Fear the unknown. Fear of being hurt. Fear of change. - Bored
I've always thought that marriage should be irrelevant for government purposes. Define some generous civil union between two people for all legal reasons. Beyond that, if people want to separately get "married", that should be their own personal/spiritual.religious/whatever decision, independent of any laws or benefits. - £ogical €xtremes
I thought it was because religious types KNOW EVERYTHING - Eric Rice
Civil Unions are the easiest solution. But not in the way it's been presented. EVERYONE should have civil unions. The term "marriage" should not exist in law - it has too much religious connotation. If you strip "marriage" from legal terms - then it becomes solely a matter of equal representation. Then - however the people who get married deem appropriate is a private matter. - George Smith
The comments above make me proud to be following you all, and proud to be a friend of Chris. Who'd a thunk a dude from Iowa could be so broad minded. - Jack Carlson

We need to separate legal marriage and religious marriage in this country. Religious marriage should not make someone legally married, IMO. - Jesse Stay

I totally agree that legal and religious marriages should be separated in the US. I think that would solve many of the issues that some people have with gay marriage. - Shannon Jiménez
To me, if two people are willing to commit to love and not to hate, we should be applauding them. - Dana Franks via twhirl
@George Smith: You stole what I was going to say. :D I don't understand why love is under the government domain. Let 2 people who can legally enter a contract do so. If they love each other is irrelevant. What their sex is is irrelevant. Heck, if they are related is irrelevant. It is just a contract. - ChiliMac via twhirl
I don't view this as "gay rights." These are "HUMAN rights." Why should straight couples have special privileges? It doesn't make sense. - ::Kristen::
Now you've gone and made me think about that Chuck Berry song "My Ding-a-Ling". I used to think that was sooo funny when I was in high school - Laura Norvig
Let me add to this a point I always make: if marriage as an idea is between man and a women as decreed in religion, why do we allow the state to marry people? I support a ban on gay marriage when we ban the state from marrying people, and leave it only to the religious folk :-) - Duncan Riley
@Duncan hit it on the nose - why the F* do we need the government to mandate *anything* about *anyone's* intimate relationship with another person? - Alan Cheslow
I think the current state of hetero marriage is the bigger travesty, but it's still none of the government's f*&king business if you ask me. - Jennifer Leggio
ding-a-lings...lol...funny... ok, I'll shut up now... - Adrian Bacon
it's amazing how most religions message of being accepting of all and giving unconditional love can find exceptions for no apparent reason. You know when you ask an overly religious person a tough question & they respond with "god is testing you", maybe this is one time where that can be twisted back on them and say to them "maybe god is testing YOU to see if you will accept 2 people in love no matter what". And about it being special and losing benefits - marriage should never be about benefits, only love. - alphaxion
There's nothing wrong with gay marriage and people, including religions, should open up to that fact (among many other facts!) - Kol Tregaskes
It's built into the belief systems of many. In order to call oneself Christian and/or a believer of the bible, for instance, you have to exclude certain ideas as being acceptable since there is, apparently, only one 'truth', and it's well-defined in the bible. Marriage, in particular, has a definition. That said, the only thing I feel justified in not tolerating is intolerance itself. - Paul Whitaker
Love is good, people should relax and realize that different people have different taste. I have my freedom, so others should too. - Mike Reynolds
Why should the government regulate marriage in the first place? What business is it of the gov't who get's married? - Jason Shultz via twhirl
+1000 Mike - BeeLing
gay marriage is not evil, it is an abomination (quoting the bible). It maybe true that most people against gay marriage are against people who love themselves more than the natural order of laws.. but the interesting thing about laws is that we question them. There is a law of gravity which we have constantly worked to defy and consider it a good thing. Their is no book telling us not to defy the law of gravity, and so no one has an objection. There are speeding laws that man has made and of course traffic laws like going against the light which can result in devastating consequences. As I speek with those who want to uphold the laws handed down to men by what they perceive as God, I conclude they are in their hearts trying to prevent the unseen consequences that breaking these laws will result in. I am not saying I agree, though I don't understand why it is so important for anyone to have a legal document to declare their love. I just know my wife wouldn't have it any other way so, being I loved her and th - Curtis "Winer" Cross via twhirl
I also don't get how they can reconcile their belief when more studies are showing not only biological causes to incidences homosexuality but that there are genetic benefits to homosexuality in a population (increased fertility for example). It's also not unique to humans, it can be seen across the animal kingdom (of which humans are a member)... It's perfectly natural! - alphaxion
@Alpaxion: As a Christian I believe a Christian should be against homosexuality as a sin. That does not mean we should be hateful of the homosexual. I don't see anything in the Bible that shows their sin as being any worse than my sins. - ChiliMac
One doesn't *have* to believe homosexuality is an abomination in order to call oneself a Christian; I certainly don't. There's a whole range of views of which parts should be taken metaphorically and which taken literally (and which are true for all time and which were true only for times without the refrigeration which makes eating shrimp and bacon particularly dangerous). - Deborah Fitchett
Also, pardon me for pointing out the obvious, this is an ostensibly secular society. What one religion supposedly considers an abomination(and as Deborah points out, there's far from being a consensus on that) doesn't have to be the basis for our laws. We don't outlaw, for example, mixing dairy with meat, or lending money at interest. - Nathan Rein
