Now, publishers can manage their content in Google News in an even more automated way. Site owners can just add Googlebot-News specific directives to their robots.txt file. Similar to the Googlebot and Googlebot-Image user agents, the new Googlebot-News user agent can be used to specify which pages of a website should be crawled and ultimately appear in Google News.

Google home page now fades in. For those users who are interested in using a different application like Gmail, Google Image Search or our advertising programs, the additional links on the homepage only reveal themselves when the user moves the mouse. Since most users who are interested in clicking over to a different application generally do move the mouse when they arrive, the "fade in" is an elegant solution that provides options to those who want them, but removes distractions for the user intent on searching.

I've been using WPD interface to set up and alter my sidebar sales offer. I want to move totally over to wp-admin interface but I can't find my sidebar ad anywhere in wp-admin. Anyone using WP Direct who can tell me where to find it in wp-admin plz? I want to edit it.
It should be in the "Widgets" area... Appearance>Widgets. Thats where you control your sidebar content unless of course you hard code something in on the sidebar.php file found in Appearance>Editor. ...In most cases, its a text type widget that usually gets applied to your sidebar for ads.
- Ron"micronet"Harwood
Ron is right. You may also want to check the contents of sidebar.php, index.php, single.php just in case there is code there that appears below the get_sidebar() call.
- TrafficBug
Thanks @Ron and @TrafficBug. I'll be checking on these soon when I've finished my current market samurai project :))
- Isha (Marysia)
check out appearance then widgets. It should be on the right hand side.
- Todd Bryson
The thing is, I want to edit my ad. The widget is there, and the plugin for the widget is there, but what I'm looking for is a way to edit the ad from wp-admin. Any WPD users out there who know how I can do this?

Does anyone know how to split test a sale offer in the side bar of a Wordpress blog? I would really like to know, but have not yet found an answer after around 4 hours of trial and error....
Ad Rotator doesn't seem to be trackable. I want to be able to combine it with google analytics
- Tim Brennan
if each goes to a separate version of the landing page....
- Allison
yes, but I don't think it will work with a sale offer in the side bar
- Tim Brennan
You would have to test this, but use the Ads Rotator script http://kpumuk.info/project... and link your ad(s) to go through a redirect page that you could have as a goal in analytics. When your ad(s) are clicked on they would go through the redirect page which would log in your analytics goal and land the potential customer on the landing/sales page.
- Ron"micronet"Harwood
Thanks I have been searching for this type of ad rotator script to display multiple banners from a pool of affiliate banners.
- TrafficBug
Does that script attach a cookie? If not I guess I would need to set up the ads with different redirect links in order to track it. That brings up another question - I heard that pretty links are not trackable in google analytics, is that true?
- Tim Brennan
@Tim I would just have an ad image that links to a redirect page (php) with your affilate link as the redirect. That should credit you for the sale if one happens. Your analytics goal (which would be the redirect page) would show a hit triggered from the redirect page pass through. Or...you possible could use a 1x1 pixel on the redirect page ( I would use a slight delayed redirect) and...

Just uploaded a video to show how you can make your podcasts (or any audio product) sound more professional by mixing a couple of pieces of audio together seamlessly on Audacity. Thought it might come in useful for all 30DCers (or 30DCer Plus) who are moving on to create their own products: http://www.youtube.com/watch...
Great vid Lisa Thanks!! Audacity rocks for audio.I have been using the beta1.3 (unicode) version and really like it.If I may add to your tut, you can fine tune the moving of a track(s) by selecting the "Time Shift" icon (the double headed arrow) and then click, hold and move the track with the mouse. Helps to fine align the tracks after doing the align to cursor move :)
- Ron"micronet"Harwood
Excellent - will give that a mention in my next tutorial. I'm so used to working with Cool Edit Pro/Adobe Audition that I forget how things work in Audacity between times!

@Groobers I don't think it is possible to upload it from within your WPD contrl panel. The best way to upload it (or any file) is with FTP. I use Filezilla which is very easy to use. Anyone know if there's a way to get a description into a /category/ page? ie a page whose url is like this: www(dot)mykeyword/category/categorykeyword . I want to get full onpage optimization for the page in the SEO Competition matrix, and Desc is all I'm missing.
in the blog settings (wp-admin) there is a permalinks section you can play around with. http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_P... You can put a description prefix before your category. Or you could go all hacker style and just customize the mod_rewrite part in your .htaccess file ;)
- Jorge Blanco
Lol that last one is beyond my skills Jorge :). Re "You can put a description prefix before your category" in the permalinks section - can you give an example of what that would be? How would adding to the permalink create a Desc optimization for a keyword? As I understand it, the Desc in Market Samurai's SEO Competition matrix comes from the All In One SEO Pack plugin description (I already have the keyword in the url).
- Isha (Marysia)
In case I was unclear, I didn't mean I want to put a description in the url - I want to make a description for the page.
- Isha (Marysia)
If you go to your WP admin dashboard, then go to Categories (under the post module) there is a text box for the category description. You can also click the "Edit" link on an existing category to get to the description text box. **Heres the bummer though** Not all themes show a category description.....This is right from the WP cat description text box --"The description is not prominent by default, however some themes may show it." :(
- Ron"micronet"Harwood
You can use %postname% in the custom permalinks section and then use your keywords as part of the post title and it would automatically appear as part of the url, all indexed.
- TrafficBug
@TrafficBug, it's already in the url. I was asking about getting it into the Desc ie Description

I have only just recently start having a look in wp-admin usually I post via WPD or Market Samuari does anyone know why it say I have 1 page (which is a contact page) should there not be 2 pages a contact page and a home page? Sorry I know very little about wordpress :)
All is as should be. WP does not usually list a home page, only other pages that you create or that are part of a theme which alot of times is an about page or contact page. Your index.php is your home page and is by default always considered present.
- Ron"micronet"Harwood
Isha we can be dummies together, shame a 30dcer with wordpress skills did not have a site teaching about wordpress and had that book as the affiliate product, just think they could had two sales straight away and I bet many more!

If you imagine your wordpress blog as a roll of toilet paper, the first thing anyone sees is the first sheet on that toilet paper (latest blog post or stickied blog post). Pages are stand alone hand towels that are on their individual rails, up on the wall and away from the toilet paper, but still accessible.....does that make sense? The toilet paper is the visible bit :)
- Allison
There's a crucial lesson for Wordpress here : always keep a spare one in the same room.
- Andy Roberts
Does that mean fancy towels are not going to help then if the toilet paper is the cheap and nasty kind, only have the double soft quilted variety and then worry about the hand towel coordination?
- Groobers
If the pattern in the toilet paper is interesting people will naturally want to check the quality of the handtowels. Just to get a feel of who owns this bathroom anyway
- Allison
When unrolling, watch out for the sticky post at the top.

Pardon me for being so ignorant still: Should I be typing something into my "Send trackbacks to" section in my WP, & if so what? I'm building an authority site so I want make sure I take advantage of everything going. Also the Excerpts box - is that important (I think Google takes from that box if the All In One SEO Pack hasn't been completed?)
In your WP Settings/Discussion Settings area, right at the top, you'll find an option "Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article (slows down posting)" - which means, if not ticked, you need to fill out the trackback section in each post manually to send trackbacks.
- Melanie Langenhan
The excerpt can be used i.e. on the main page of a site, it's not about SEO like the meta description. Excerpt content is a teaser for readers, meta descriptions show up in SERP and should be optimized for SEO.
- Melanie Langenhan
Thanks for your help Melanie. So if I didn't tick the "Attempt to notify..." option, what would I put in the trackback section - would I put in the url of the post, or would I put in the comments url, or something else?
- Isha (Marysia)
I'm none the wiser from reading that: "You can also handle your trackbacks/pingbacks on a per post basis — this will also override the setting in your options panel. From the Write->Post screen, make sure there is a check next to “Allow Pings” in the Discussion box."
