Italian citizenship status: both my parents are eligible, and have all the right paperwork - all they need to do now is get some additional certifications, then submit everything in a big packet to the authorities in Italy. Previously my answer for the "what would you do with a big pile of money" question was: "establish ubiquity and redundancy for all of human knowledge". I think a lot of other folks are doing an okay job at making that happen; so my new answer is: "establish self-sustaining, society-isolated maths, as per Anathem".

I will once again go "out on a limb" and declare Twitter to be dying. The people best served by Twitter (and who talk to one another the most) appear to be tweens and early teens, comedians, celebrities, and the "social media crowd". Unsurprisingly, all these groups share self- and ego-centrism in common... how much longer is it going to be before...
