"This really is an important practice and message -- and as Suzanne points out above, one we should employ outside of the classroom. I notice somewhere in the past, many were taught not to be too complimentary lest it seem insincere. Then be sincere. Seek something to notice in everyone -- and you'll surely find what you seek. Then share with that person the "I Notice," yes? Thanks Chief! You teach more then students and teachers. (I Notice) You teach (and reach) people with your head and heart"

"We disagree less than you think, my friend. We agree that the "skills" have been around forever (though not often practiced - especially in the 'sit n forget' setup of some classrooms) I dig your line, "It's a straw man that sidetracks important discussions" So how do we either get past it, whether the "it" is I.T. or the term or the strawman or the..."

"Nice! So maybe those "tool" experts are Social Media Mechanics (a webmaster term, too) or Plumbers? Your findings that odesk (elance, etc) has a call for "Social Media Experts" is a message loud and clear (thanks for sharing that)! The skill of filtering noise from signal is going to get more practice -- because it seems more noise is on the way. The shortcuts in Social Media are non-existent. The closest way home is the farthest way about. Avoid the shortcuts in relationship building. Thanks for adding to the conversation, Matt"

"Hey John! Thanks for your midwest style:-) and your "atta boy" on the video. Your habit of 'genuine curiosity' about others ... your others first attitude ... is a great habitude! So glad we made a deeper connection."

When I ask others why they decided to study/work/play under my tutelage - two reasons are popular: 1) Their own passion for what they do, and 2) My passion for what I do. What's your passion -- and how do you get started?

LOL! I forgot I had one... until everyone and their dog started joining. A bit like Twitter! I joined very early (possibly when it was still in Beta), but didn't have anyone to chat to for over a year!

Lame. Sorry to say this ... some good points that have been said before BUT post's like this are primarily link-bait brown-nosing the same old make-money poop-bahs.
- BLOGBloke
@Blog Bloke - While the linkbait may (or may not) be the goal of the post, many of the folks I coach (including myself) would be smart to at least remember some of the tips. A good, quick read that may inspire some. And I'm sure you've faced #2 a few times in your work:-)

@Mike: What I object to is the post plagiarizes what I and others have been saying for years. Nothing new there but as usual they only link to the same self-absorbed old-boys network over and over, and over ... again. It's really getting old and I'm tired of the same few getting all of the publicity. Re: #2 Like you said, been there and done that ;-)
