The economy seems to be stabilizing, and this has prompted a shift in the public mood. Raw fear has given way to anxiety that the recovery will be feeble and drab. Companies are hoarding cash. Banks aren’t lending to small businesses. Private rese...

Thorough, insightful, well said. If the GOP would only end it's jihad on intellectuals, ideas like this might have a chance among men of reason and goodwill on both sides of the political divide.

If you follow the debate around the energy/climate bills working through Congress you will notice that the drill-baby-drill opponents of this legislation are now making two claims. One is that the globe has been cooling lately, not warming, and th...

In the strongest employment report since the recession began nearly two years ago, the government said Friday that the nation’s employers had all but stopped shedding jobs in November, taking some of the pressure off of President Obama to come up ...

"That's fair, Geoff. The level of understanding exceeded my expectation, perhaps that's what I responded to. We'll see where the rubber meets the road."

"Agree, Porter's definition is the gold standard. Strategy is nothing more or less than making different choices than your competition. Everything else is execution. He always added that a company's real strategy is revealed in it's actions and priorities, not in it's "Strategy Statement.""

"You know, Don... Knowing you made me think the Microsoft might not be as evil as I thought. Now I know I was right the first time. Late to this party, but wanted to say if there's anything I can do for you, just ask. In the meantime best of luck and enjoy the break, quite sure you'll be off on a new adventure soon."

"Yea, I wasn't crystal clear on that when this all began, really following Jason's lead. Maybe we'll get a bit more organized next year... for now I guess whatever raises a little money is good!"

President Obama made an appearance in Florida last week that should have gotten more attention. At a time when many Americans are apprehensive about the state of the economy and uncertain about the nation’s long-term prospects, Mr. Obama delivered...

The workers expected to find bones as they dug below Washington Square Park. After all, the remains of as many as 20,000 people are believed to be lying below. But as the backhoe scooped away earth last Friday, it instead revealed a 210-year-old g...

True ragù is a magnificent pasta sauce, a slow-simmered blend of meat, tomatoes and, usually, milk. The real thing takes hours, for the meat must become tender and contribute its silkiness to the sauce, the tomatoes must dissolve, and the milk mus...

LIKE many members of the cabbage family, Brussels sprouts are at their sweetest and best when grown in cool weather. (There are those who think they’re even better after a light frost.) In fact they’re as good a symbol of mid-fall as exists, and i...

Military experts say that President Obama is intellectually sophisticated, but they do not know if he has the determination needed from a war president.

"Great post, Brian. I've been a champion for the SRM cause for a while now, and continue to beleive it's where this all goes. A few of us in Boston had a discussion about the future of the social web at Wednesday's MITX event, where I suggested it would be defined by three things: 1. The shift from destination-based to distributed social network availability, as stated in the Forrester work. 2. The increasing application of our social networks as a filter for the information onslaught around us, as we saw in the launch of Google's Social Search product this week, and... 3. As a result of the above - a dramatic shift from focus on the quantity of one's social network reach to a focus on the quality of one's social network connections. After reflecting on this I unfollowed 10,000 people in Twitter last week, cutting my bot traffic by about 95%, and leaving a core group of people whom I "know," and who's opinions I genuinely value. While it's cost me about 20% of my own followers, I find..."

"Poorly, I'd say, but by choice. We don't subscribe to the notion that the agency's interests are somehow at odds with our staff's interests. The assumption of some kind of "zero sum game" between us and our people seems to be behind your comment, and I just don't beleive that's the case. To clarify... our full time employees are paid for their talent, ideas, and work product. How they choose to use thier time in the pursuit of those things is thier business. We have no official start and end time in our office, nor do we have a "vacation policy." If you can take off 6 weeks a year and meet your responsibilities, knock yourself out. Heck... show the rest of us how to do it. In return for treating people like grown-ups we expect grown-up behavior. People are responsible for delivering on their commitments - not just to us or our clients, but to one another. That's not about bourgeois / proletariat conflict... I just don't now how the system that serves us all could function otherwise...."
