very interesting write-up about how # followers not related to interaction, although I know that many lurkers do read (even with only 1300 followers, I'm still surprised when I bump into people IRL that don't interact online, but reference stuff from Twitter or blog)
- Stuart Miniman
Grievance: Anne Bouey, you are too kind to everyone. I want to know what you really think about Facebook.
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Cecily, you carry on the stereotype of the stern librarian who does not approve of shenanigans! Live it up every once in a while.
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Friendfeed didn't buy Facebook and declare it *dead* :D
- Adrian
Grievance: Haggis! You are the lamest poker in the world I have ever seen. Pathetic.
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Adrian, you couldn't man up and get Anika to take your last name like a true patriarch!
- Louis Gray
Oh man... I lost the armwrestling match that was supposed to decide that. :(
- Adrian
Grievance: Spidra, your avatar looks like Rosie the Riveter meets Archie from Archie Comics. Let's see the real you!
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Anika, you have not told us all the dirt about Mark Krynsky that you really know. It's time you told us. Everything.
- Louis Gray
Jaime Hernandez was very influenced by Archie Comics. I doubt I'll change my avatar, but (and this gets to *my* grievance) I have posted quite a few pics of me in my feed - that so few of my subscribers read, like or comment on. :-P
- Spidra Webster
Grievance: we haven't seen enough of LG bragging that he's whipped someone in Scrabble or Mario Kart. Especially that he's mercilessly beaten his mother.
- Spidra Webster
Grievance: Jandy, if you were truly the ConcertMaven of FF, how come I have #1) never been invited to a concert you attended, and #2) you have not yet organized a concert made up of FriendFeed performers?
- Louis Gray
Spidra, I try to remain humble. I would never bore you with such triviality. :)
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Louis, your most fun posts are only seen by insomniacs.
- Bruce Lewis
Grievance: Bruce, OurDoings has not yet been acquired by FriendFeed or Facebook and is far too obscure, requiring much more visibility.
- Louis Gray
Obscure? The user group http://friendfeed.com/ourdoin... has 13 subscribers. That's gotta be about half the active FriendFeed user base, if the pundits are to be believed.
- Bruce Lewis
Louis, #1) Consider yourself invited to every concert I attend; all you gotta do is come down to LA! #2) I'm waiting for Spidra to move back down here, then I will organize said concert with her in the lead. And you're invited. :)
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Hmm. We can take over the Rose Bowl and have a huge festival. What will we call it? Ffunderstruck?
- Spidra Webster
Grievance: Chris Pirillo is not lifecasting in 3D, so I don't feel like I know him well enough.
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Mahendra's sharing preferences on Google Reader and Twitter are dramatically different than the posts he selects for Techmeme while on his shift.
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Atul Arora is remarkably mysterious about his full-time work life, and is seen as a full-time link sharer.
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Jim Norris complains often about struggles with attracting a date, yet he is cute enough and successful enough that I would be happy to pass his name along to potential partners. :)
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Louis Gray won't stop hitting on me.
- Jim Norris
In your dreams, Norris -- LG only fantasizes of RSS feeds ;)
- Mona Nomura
Grievance: Jim's and Mona's hilarious comments make mine look really lame by comparison.
- Bruce Lewis
Grievance: Not enough things have been declared Dead, Lame or Wrong...

Grievance: I didn't follow the thread format, which probably leveled up LG's grievance. ;)

Grievance: People post their mugs way too much up in here! #getaroom

Grievance: Johnny Worthington isn't Australian enough. Secondary grievance... the Skype connection to FFunderCats is complete rubbish.

Grievance: I never go to bed. Wait...Another Grievance: I'm always late to these parties.

Grievance: All my network is on Twitter instead of FriendFeed. Bastards!
- Justin Whitaker
Grievance: this video won't edit itself.
- WorldofHiglet
Grievance: LG's not on FF right now. Which leads me to believe he could only be sleeping. I'm disillusioned.
- Spidra Webster
Grievance: FriendFeed got hijacked by Facebook - bah! I think they should switch places. I mean, declare FB dead and switch all those accounts over to FF --- now, that would be AWESOME!
- Susan Beebe
Grievance: Not enough chocolate over here, that's cuz I ate most of it already :P *sad santa*
- Susan Beebe
I'm glad you aired out these grievances, Louis, They were starting to stink before, all boxed up like that.
- Stephen Mack
I don't get a Grievance? Woo hoo! I win!
- Kamilah Gill
Grievance: Spidra does not recognize I can be off FriendFeed and still not asleep at the same time. A rarity, but true.
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Susan Beebe dutifully listens in to every Gillmor Gang, but has yet to be invited on as a participant.
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Kamilah Gill is still doing her daily sketches and has yet to switch to oil-based paints.
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Stephen Mack has no resemblance to the line of trucks which bear his name.
- Louis Gray
Grievance: Paul Buchheit has not yet singlehandedly made Facebook as cool as FriendFeed or GMail.
- Louis Gray
:P I'm going to! and I have done tons of oil painting. That's how I got my art degree. Ah, that's better. Happy Festivus.
- Kamilah Gill
Grievance: Stuart Miniman won't admit that the vast majority of people who interact with him don't really get the full benefits of Fibre Channel Over Ethernet (FCoE).

Roberto, I've got a prototype working. You stand beneath one circular shower curtain and jump into the space with another circular shower curtain. Now all I need is to work on the distance.

Rational, Twitter usage is flattening, people are finally figuring out that Twitter sucks for having a conversation. People though Friendfeed was hard to use, try having to install several software 'crutches' to be able to use Twitter productively without even half the functionality as Freindfeed.
- Jeff P. Henderson
Either this is tounge in cheek or Robert really hasn't gotten over our breakup... Robert, I hope we can still be friends but we have to move on and grow... FriendFeed will always love you, but we need some 'us' time to find out who 'we' are... *cues The Bodygaurd soundtrack*... *walks out into the rain, adjusts collar, walks off down the road*... *fade to black, credits*

Comment bait. Even Robert can't generate interest these days.
- Russellreno
I agree. Friendfeed is for those who need more from a 2d interface. Until there spatial interface is there, Friendfeed is on top of the pyramid (especially when one knows how to use it best).
- Kirill Bolgarov
Lets hope so ... Miss some of my old peeps :)
- Charlie Anzman
I'm surprised Robert made this statement but I find it very interesting in the change of view and wonder what has changed his mind or if he knows more info.

The unpredictably erratic Scobot is at it again...
- Ciro
Well, after glancing at his Twitter timeline, he's just making a bunch of joke predictions. I'd like to think that there's some truth in this one though...

Sniffs... Do you smell that? It's what we used to call a troll. Robert is getting dangerously close to becoming irrelevent.

Robert is waiting until 2010 to respond to this thread. :)
- Louis Gray
Scoble - I disagree ONLY because I think that FriendFeed activity is already migrating to Facebook via deeper integration over there but I'm wiling to hear you out (as are the other 40+ people commenting here). Do share why you think this is true?
- Aaron Strout
I wrote this tweet for Twitter, not for FriendFeed. But nice to see you all! :-)
- Robert Scoble
Jason: I'm definitely irrelevant if the people calling me irrelevant don't even have 1,000 subscribers. Sigh.
- Robert Scoble
I actually see FriendFeed growing instead of slowing and there will also be new enhancements. A testing ground for Facebook. Just to expand, Robert's still the man!

@Kol, somebody mentioned that those stats often only consider US visitors (why that would be, I don't know). FF's non-US contingent has grown tremendously, so that graph may not show the whole picture.
- Jason Huebel
I'm finding that FriendFeed is fiendishly sticky. On Twitter lists do help, they make twitter better and all but but but-but I think a lot of users are getting more sophisticated in their web usage faster than Twitter can evolve their tech. Louis Grey recently postulated that even if there is no interaction on FriendFeed it makes complete sense to stay riding this horse. That got me...

Morgan - the insurgents never left ... ;-p

I'll stay one faithful user, for those "outside the US" stats. Still feature plenty, still enjoyable. Still effective. Thanks for rallying the troops again Robert. Bring the hopes, and forget the ropes! 8)
- ElijahBailey-Zu of FF <0,
I like this whole thread. ++Akiva, Johnny, JSLeFanu, Jason Heubel, Mike Chelen . . . Robert, Twitter may have geeks and famous people, but you can actually do things here. Oh, wait - I'm not here. I'm sorry but this is unbelievable:) I'll give credit to the artist upon more convincing proof! The photogenic look of the tiger and lion really helps the artist's case though:)

I'm with Roney... I find this hard to believe... or maybe I'm just jealous that I can't even get stick people right!

you cannot win on the interwebs. draw some crap it doesn't get noticed. draw something amazing in pencil and people say it's not real.
- Joe Breen
I'm really happy everyone liked these. They're my most liked entry to date, Thanks! There also seems to be some question about whether these are actually Pencil Drawings.I can assure you that they are. When I get home, I should have the links. I have more drawings, too.
- Michael Fidler
from fftogo
Thanks Enrique, I'll post some more soon. They are a little more obvious than these ones. As Luke points out; without being able to look closely it's impossible to tell. He's right; but up close it's more obvious. I'll upload the originals to Picasa later, and then you'll be able to zoom in with any photo viewer and see for yourselves. I can't believe how many people liked these. A few people have reposted them already. Thanks!
- Michael Fidler
Absolutely awesome, Michael. You are extremely talented. Everyone should repost these pix and help to make you famous. You should be doing this full time - you obviously have some passion for this. Bravo.
- Chris Loft
These are really beautiful, Michael. Do you sell them?
- Shannon Jiménez
Chris, I would love to say they're mine, but it's not true. I've had them for a while, but I'll find the artists names. It will just require a little backtracking. Besides, they deserve the credit; all I did was find them:-)
- Michael Fidler
Cut the bullshit! :) Photos are very good.
- Burçak Çubukçu
I draw alot in pencil, but they are amazing, the best for me is the girl, that is the most photo-like one. :o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
I agree Rob, the girl is amazing. My favorite by far! Wait until you see it close up! It's really had to tell, even up close!
- Michael Fidler
Burçak Çubukçu If these were photographs, they would be very good. As Pencil Drawings,(which they are), they're amazing.
- Michael Fidler
@Burçak Çubukçu I can't tell if your serious now or just kidding around. I hope your just having fun! If you are serious, I've never given you a reason to question my integrity, nor do I ever intend to. However, the second set is up now, so judge them for yourself, but don't judge me! http://ff.im/1BJh5 BTW, I messed up and reposted the shot of the women again. Oh well. Hope you like them:-)

@Michael: try deviantART, not Picasa, to submit your artworks
- LouCypher
WOW "I can't believe it's in pencil"
- sofarsoShawn
LouCypher, I know it well, but I don't see why I would want to do that. I hope everyone knows by now that they're not mine? I'm sorry, but I can't say it any clearer than that.
- Michael Fidler
nah, i don't believe it is done in pencil. i am sure it is photoshopped :)

I'm finding this both interesting and humorous at the same time. There's a separate message board where this post is being discussed and it has another forty comments on it already. Very interesting. I would like to see them up close and in person...just to make sure. Bill said it's real and possible. Your 2nd set of picts look like pencil. Nice work in finding these!
- LaFern Cusack
Kol, I can't thank you enough! Kol found another post which helps to prove that these are done in pencil. I had my doubts about a few of them because I collected them from several different sites over time, but the site Kol found has done a great job pulling together an impressive collection of these drawings and more. Take a look - http://www.flickzzz.com/2009...
- Michael Fidler
Actually there are more than what this site shows. There's an entire set with the cats(little cats), which I have, and there's a new portrait set.
- Michael Fidler
Found your post here, Michael. :-) I tried my best to find the artists.
- Kol Tregaskes
Amazing and very very very good.... Very impressive ...
- Linda Zeek-Bobinski
Yeah we know, thanks though, James. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Excellent pictures - how long did it take you to scan the photographs into Photoshop and then edit them? The only pencil that has come into contact with these "drawings" is the Photoshop pencil. A tip - stop trying to fool people into thinking you are a "real" artist, because all you are doing is cheapening proper artist's works whom have spent hours creating real pictures as opposed to a few minutes on a graphics editing package.
- The Wimp
A bell does ring here. And I am remembering why I was so attracted to the tiger...and the lion for that matter. These are exact replicas of prints I had in our bedroom when I lived in Dallas. I had bought the prints (in color) at a department store,
- Melanie Reed
Actually, I have learned quite a bit about these drawing since I made this post. Not only have I discovered all of the artists, but I've learned more about how they are created. They are always copied from a photograph or painting, but usually a photograph. It is extremely time consuming and detail orientated work. There are many other artists besides the ones featured here who practice...

- Michael Fidler
Most of them have portfolio's on deviantart.com and their work is truly amazing even if they are copies of other artists work. I suppose with this level of detail, they have to start with something. Nevertheless, I'm still in awe of their talent. Melanie, the animal prints you refer to are from a very well renowned photographer. The originals are B&W I'll look it up later but I do have...

Would you recommend using Cinch instead of Evernote for interviews? If so, why?
- Amani
Amani, Cinch is a bit more social than Evernote - you can comment on each post, share it to Twitter, Facebook, etc. Evernote, from what I understand, is just for archival purposes. That said, you can save the MP3 and upload to Evernote.
- Jesse Stay
jesse, how are you planning on using Cinch. I am going to download it now. I always need an app where I can interview musicians for my show and other things too. Also, how do u use Evernote?
- Amani
from IM
Amani (disclosure: Cinch is a client of mine), I'm finding it fits well in short message situations where you want a little more personality than just text can provide. For instance, at Blog World I went around and asked people one question, and had them answer that question as briefly as possible, but it was people like Robert Scoble and Louis Gray, and Nick Halstead (of TweetMeme). It is the occasions where you'd normally use the tape recorder to do the interview that Cinch makes sense.
- Jesse Stay
In a sense, Cinch makes everyone a journalist by giving them that tape recorder and allowing them to promote it to their own audience.
- Jesse Stay
I get it Jesse. And how will this change how you use Evernote?
- Amani
Amani, it doesn't change how I use Evernote at all. I never used Evernote for audio in the first place, but even so, Evernote has always been a place to braindump. It hasn't been built around anything social so there's no way to promote that braindump in Evernote.
- Jesse Stay
And not sure I want my braindump public :-)
- Jesse Stay
Also, Cinch doesn't require the internet to run. Just call their number, record your Cinch, and you're done. Just a landline is necessary.
- Jesse Stay
so could I record a phone interview through my iphone using Cinch? or what about through google voice? I didn't read about that feature. And I get you about your braindump. I use Recorder now but am considering switching.
- Amani
from IM
Amani, yes, via 2-way calling you could call Cinch, then transfer over the other caller into your recording. I did that with Louis Gray back after the FriendFeed acquisition while I was at Niagara Falls. I was standing on top of the falls, doing a phone interview on Cinch - pretty cool, eh?
- Jesse Stay
that is totally awesome. I have to test that out but that actually REALLY makes my day. So flexible. have the app on my phone already. no more need for those free conference call #'s and recording from a phone. How was the sound quality? And do you use evernote to just keep that interview in an the archives?
- Amani
from IM
Amani, you could use Evernote for that, yes - just save the MP3 and upload to Evernote. However, the audio files are all stored on BlogTalkRadio's servers so I'm sure they're pretty safe (probably more so than even on Evernote's servers). Sound quality will always be better if you use the iPhone app, but even by phone it's not bad.
- Jesse Stay
Jorge, technically you do - just add 1-646-200-0000 to your address book, title it "Cinch", and call it any time you want to make a new Cinch. :-)
- Jesse Stay
ok good point about the BlogTalkRadio servers. So the sound quality using the Cinch iphone app is the best in your opinion correct? Thanks for sharing btw.
- Amani
from IM
Jorge, Cinch has a great API though - you should be the first to create one! :-)
- Jesse Stay
I meant interesting that you can just call them and they tag you. I don't develop for Android, and I do know the API is very flexible, thanks for that Jesse
- Jorge Escobar
So I tried to test this out but it wouldn't work well for me. I had this running in the background. Someone called me and I hit record but I can listen to the recording. It seems as if it didn't record. Hmmm ... any ideas? This is on an iphone 3G. I have someone calling me in 1.5 hours to do an interview and I need to be sure this works.
- Amani
Amani, I'm not sure if it works that way (never tried that). What I normally do to record a phone call is call the number (above), and set up 2-way calling with the individual and Cinch.
- Jesse Stay
OK, thanks for your help jesse. So I would call the 646 number and then call the person? Or could I wait for them to call me and then call the #? Just a few last minute logistics. LOL.
- Amani
Yep, I just tested it out and it worked. You are right about the quality. I hope there is no time limit. I read the FAQ and they said none. I am going to give it a whirl and post up my results. If it works like I think it will be a life saver. Thanks for your help Jesse.
- Amani
Oh, I like Cinch. I just tested it again and now that I use evernote it is even more valuable.
- Amani

zee - gifted followers = default list/suggested user list - when a media outlet reports on "x account has y followers" it's almost like there needs to be a notation that they were given the followers as a freebie.

Strange enough, the link to the PM's wife's Twitter page isn't direct; it's <http://go.telegraph.co.uk/...>...is this done to possibly track the number of clicks or something? All the other Twitter accounts listed are direct links
- Itachi
i thought that everyone has agreed to used "listed" as the new 'count that matters' -- there's more of a meaning to listing someone and there never was a suggested list... however... the more followers you have the more chances to be listed there are ( i guess )
- Chris Heath
Heh, nvm, seems it was a bug on my end. The link does take you to her Twitter page, but while I was mousing over the links I saw the go.telegraph.co.uk link and was a little perplexed why they had that there. It's gone now after a refresh

Now don't let it go to your head and start thinking that services need to bend the way they function to your will and don't start ripping services when they can't perform to insane, unrealistic, and just plane silly standards. Disney has announced that Pixar’s Toy Story 3 will be released in IMAX 3D on June 18, 2010, simultaneously with its wide release. This would be the first Pixar film released in IMAX. I’m not usually a fan of films blown up from 35mm to IMAX, but 3D films are a bit different. The brightness of the IMAX projection means little to no loss in color and brightness, a big complaint about the smaller screen 3D systems like Reel D and Dolby. Any with Pixar films, you don’t want the colors to be dim or any less bright than they were intended. Also, for me, the large IMAX screen created a more immersive 3D experience than the normal sized-screen presentations. Full press release after the jump.

What I don't understand is why no one is talking about StumbleUpon. Nowhere do they tell their users that they are slipping in ads, but one out five pages smell an awful lot like payola. No where on the page does it say that company X is sponsoring that hit, they just try and pretend like it social content that's been recommended by people with similar interests. This seems a lot more deceptive to me than most conflicts of interest

Cool. Would be awesome if we could dynamically add them to a post based on tags :)

Awesome. But where is "writer is friends on FriendFeed"?

DeWitt, I assume we could have made 20 of these. But Jeannine is too good to be free! She got Mad Scrilla for this work. :) I would have added advisory roles and social networking buds, real life buds, friends of a friend, blah blah blah.

Davis - there's an icon for sponsored links on the FF and IE toolbars that looks like a dollar sign (at least the last time I used it). Disclosure: I worked on the IE toolbar and put that feature in (to reach feature parity with the Firefox toolbar).

"The basic idea was a pancake with all of the flavours of a sweet potato pie or a sweet potato casserole. I pretty much just took my basic pancake recipe with some of the flour replaced with whole wheat flour and added some pureed sweet potato long with some spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. For the sweet potato puree, you just need to cook a sweet potato until it is nice and soft and mash it up. I like to slow roast sweet potatoes as they caramelize and that adds a ton of flavour. The Sweet potato pie pancakes turned out great! They were nice and light and fluffy and moist and good. I really enjoyed the sweet potato flavour in the pancakes. I served the sweet potato pancakes with maple syrup, toasted pecans and topped them off with a slice of melting butter."

Hi, my name is Johnny. I’m here to tell you about a social networking site so good, Facebook bought the people who designed it. What is that service you ask? It’s called FriendFeed. Great post, Johnny! I will be sharing it. One thing, though - shouldn't my "friends" be pulling their heads out of their butts instead of the other way around (right after you discuss imaginary friends)?
- Curtiss Grymala
Noticed that... Decided to leave it in cause it made me giggle :)

Mission accomplished, then. It made me chuckle a bit, too, picturing someone trying to pull their butt out of their head. :)

Johnny, (and Chris, great co-hosting) this takes high concept yet practical to a new place. You leveled up, sir. Wow. Don't care if I look like I'm fawning right now, because it's so good at several levels. Sincerely, Me.
- Micah Wittman
I'm gonna send this to my friend who doesn't get friendfeed yet.

Johnny - You are like the brother I never had! (except for Sean and Josh that is....) But YOU ROCK!
- Morgan Haley
Morgan. You're like the brother of the brother I always wanted :)

Nice, Johnny. Maybe you could do a Part II -- "But didn't Facebook buy FriendFeed? Doesn't that mean FriendFeed is dead? Why should I start using a dead service?"
- Ken Sheppardson
Ken, I was going to address this but my objective is to get more users. I'm confident that FriendFeed will be around for a significant amount of time and it's our job to build a user base to a point where we're 'to big to fail'.

Yeah, I suppose that makes sense... you don't really hear people talking about how FF's "dead" until you start using it.
- Ken Sheppardson
It's only dead if we let it die. Facebook has given no indication that they will do so. FriendFeed is only dead to those who sought to be on the cutting edge. The early adopter wave has crashed over the beach of FriendFeed and we're all now just enjoying a day out paddling in the water.

Twitter is slowly but surely catching up to Friendfeed in features. Re-tweets stand in for FoaF aggregration. There have been many attempts by 3rd parties at threading and displaying images and videos inline. Search is going the outsourced route, to Bing and Google. The character limit is still an obstacle, though. But luckily we don't have to wait and use a bunch of hacks, because all of this is built into Friendfeed already.

Vezquex; My major issue with Twitter is the infrastructure has to be built into the message. Until I can use the full 140 characters, I don't see much hardcore use outside of the occasional message.
- Johnny Worthington
Not only that, but the threaded messages is far and away a better way to view a conversation.

We're the cool kids? Really?? ummm.. did the definition of cool change? :D

like rock and roll, friendfeed will never die. i hope. but if i had to choose between rock and roll and friendfeed....well...it's been nice

To me, this picture says two things: "Suck it, world" and "Eeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyy"
- Mike Nayyar
It was fabulous. And I did post it to FB. I figure they're my best shot at new peeps - especially the ones from AdGabber, the first socnet I was ever on.
