"In Africa, HIV/AIDS education, to be effective, must surmount a number of debilitating social hypocrisies. Take Kenya, where a government census of the country’s gay male population is planned for 2010. Officials there hope that, armed with new knowledge, they will more effectively debunk a widely held belief among gay men that unprotected sex is actually safer than sex with a condom. Data collectors face but one obstacle: Homosexuality in Kenya is a crime punishable with jail time. Recognizing the difficulty of top-down HIV/AIDS education in Africa, one NGO is taking a grassroots approach to teaching young people about the importance of regular testing. Its grass just happens to be rooted on a soccer pitch. Since 2005, Kick4Life has used soccer as a medium for encouraging testing and education among young adults in the tiny Southern African nation of Lesotho, where one in four people lives with HIV — the third-highest prevalence in the world."

"Adam Panczuk (b.1978, Poland). After finishing secondary school, Adam moved to Poznań, where he took up studies at the University of Economics and Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan. He graduated in 2005.and traveled through Asia from the Mid East to Siam taking photos. He reported on rickshaw pullers in India and on brothels in Bangkok. Five years ago he started working on a project about a Polish village which focused on the relationship between human beings and their relation to the earth, the seasons. In 2009 he won first prize at the Grand Press Photo in Poland and was also selected for the short list at the 2009 Sony World Photography Awards. He has also been awarded from the National Geographic Photography Contest. About the Photograph: “The photo comes from the Karczeby series. Karczeby in one of the dialects spoken in the east of Poland, which is a mixture of Polish and Belorussian. It is also a vernacular word for people strongly attached to the land they cultivate. "Everyone knows the best time to get your baked goods is when they're fresh out the oven. So we figured that this could be a killer use of Twitter. Letting followers know that fresh goodies are ready right now. But bakeries don't want laptops or phones lying around in the kitchen. Flour, eggs and technology don't mix so well. So we built BakerTweet. It's a bespoke piece of hardware (with Arduino-based guts) that allows our friends at Albion across the road to select what's just been baked and ping the relevant Twitter message to local customers. Meaning that you can time your trips to Albion to pick up the freshest freshness."

Eric Testroete made this amazing papercraft head for Halloween, inspired by big-head mode seen in video games. By using these Applications, 3ds Max 2009, Mudbox 2010, Photoshop CS3 and Pepakura he managed to create a 3 dimensional pseudo realistic paper portrait. His idea came from Bert Simons another great paper Sculpture.

"What began as an assemblage of 1,000 empty beer cartons pulled together by residents in East Germany has now evolved into an incredible open air public library. Designed by Karo Architekten in collaboration with local residents, the grassroots project revitalizes a post-industrial district in Magdeburg, Germany by creating a cultural center and pop-up library where books are free to take and leave 24 hours a day. Opened this past June, the project introduces plenty of green space and reuses the facade of an old warehouse to beautiful effect."

"In 2007, the 35-year-old Norwegian company Statoil merged with the oil and gas division of the 102-year-old Norsk Hydro, to form StatoilHydro, an energy and oil company with presence in 40 countries focusing on the production of oil as well as the consumer distribution of oil through various gas stations — with different brand names, some of them still named Statoil — around the world. Today, as it prepares to become a stronger global player, StatoilHydro officially went back to the Statoil name and adopted its new identity designed by Scandinavian Design Group. I emphasized “officially,” because the logo and name changed had actually been announced back in April of this year but the web site had not yet implemented the new logo."

Artist’s Statement: At 14 years of age, I knew that I was destined to be a fine art photographer. While living in Rochester, NY, I stumbled across an old building associated with George Eastman, which led to my reading of his biography. Before I even completed the book, I knew that I was going to be a photographer and for the next 10 years, photography was my complete existence. If I wasn’t taking pictures or in the darkroom, I would spend countless hours looking at every book and image I could find. There was nothing in my life except photography.
