1000+ pages - public option; no denying coverage for pre-existing condition; tax on the uber-rich...I'm ok with this.

You're okay with the Stupak amendment tacked on yesterday?
- Anika
I don't like that amendment at all... too bad it was even allowed cause everyone already knew that the republicans wouldn't vote for the bill anyway. Think she should have tried for a vote on the bill before the amendment.
- Harold
From my understanding the deals around the Stupak amendment were made with Democrats. It had nothing to do with the Republicans this time around.
- Anika
yes. I'm ok with it. Small steps. I never expect these things to be 100% what I feel is right and if there is a public option and all people can be and hopefully, will be covered..yes. I'm ok with it.

"“We have been led to believe that we must make our health care choices only within the current structure of a predatory, for-profit insurance system which makes money not providing health care. We cannot fault the insurance companies for being what they are. But we can fault legislation in which the government incentivizes the perpetuation, indeed the strengthening, of the for-profit health insurance industry, the very source of the problem. When health insurance companies deny care or raise premiums, co-pays and deductibles they are simply trying to make a profit. That is our syste"

When the show started in 1969 ("Sesame Street" will celebrate its 40th anniversary on November 10), the concept of educational television programming was nothing short of revolutionary. "Sesame Street" was originally intended as a learning tool for inner-city children -- not only as a supplement to their lessons in math and the ABCs but to teach them to be good people and show them that learning can be fun.

"Some scientists worry that pre-adolescent use of the sites, which some therapists have linked to Internet addiction among adults, could be damaging to children's relationships and brains. But many other experts say there's not any solid research to back that up and that most children seem to use social-media sites in moderation, and in positive ways."

*rewinds 20, 30, 40 years* Is TV rotting our children's brains? How much is too much? Should parents act like parents? ;)

Yes but there ar also some issues to consider. I think it's more preparing them by teaching them safe practices about being online and monitoring to make sure they aren't spending hours in front of the computer, TV and get outside. But for the most part, the kids I work with are pretty good about being online and use common sense...but sometimes not. sometimes they have to make mistakes...hopefully it doesn't end with something crazy happening to them...

Aye, I agree there are extra issues involved, certainly. It still starts at home with teaching right and wrong and limits and boundaries.

"People who have attended technology conferences in the past several years are already familiar with this phenomenon, where social media is leveraged to allow the participants in a session or panel to comment and exchange questions and ideas in real-time. At Purdue, Hotseat is used to allow students to comment on the class as it proceeds, with everyone in the class including the professor able to see the messaging as it happens."

A murdered young woman buried as Jane Doe in Colorado 55 years ago. An Arizona family puzzled and saddened as Dorothy Gay Howard's disappearance stretched into decades. It took a historian, a detective and a determined family member to make the connection after more than a half century that these two people were one and the same.

ok. this is a bit extreme for this school district to ban these girls from fall sports for something that didn't have anything to do with the school. The digital line...it's like kids can't even make mistakes anymore. I hope the teens win.

"8. Using a computer in the library is inconvenient and difficult. FALSE. Where else can you go and FOR FREE use someone else’s computer and software and not worry about programs, upgrades and virus protection. If the printer jams, all you have to do is ask a staff member to fix it. And if you can’t remember how to access a Web site, just ask. Not since free room and board in the womb has anything been so convenient and easy."

Haven't seen Red Dawn yet, but Man on Wire is so, so good. Just listening to the guy talk would be interesting enough to fill an hour and a half.

I actually get to yell "Wolverines" all the time now. It's our school mascot! HA! And I can't wait to see Man on Wire because everyone says it's so good.
