wonder if he can really do anything about these guys going over - MikeAmundsen
It helps to not be hawking a book, I think. - Cyndy
Probably not - too bad they can't have a big buzz go off or have the orchestra start up like they do at awards shows when speeches go over time - Katy Southern
Oct. 7, 2008 | "My government is my worst enemy. I'm going to fight them with any means at hand."
This was former revolutionary terrorist Bill Ayers back in his old Weather Underground days, right? Imagine what Sarah Palin is going to do with this incendiary quote as she tears into Barack Obama this week.
Only one problem. The quote is from Joe Vogler, the raging anti-American who founded the Alaska Independence Party. Inconveniently for Palin, that's the very same secessionist party that her husband, Todd, belonged to for seven years and that she sent a shout-out to as Alaska governor earlier this year. ("Keep up the good work," Palin told AIP members. "And God bless you.") - Anna Lynn M.

You know, I thought I would not keep reading all this stuff. But this is pretty fascinating especially with Palin continually using the Barack Obama pals around with Ayers line..hello..look in a mirror much Ms. Palin? - Anna Lynn M.
As I told my mother last night, they are hoping (and probably with some validity) that people are much more scared of and likely to believe in a black bogeyman than a white one. - Jason Toney
"Adrienne sez, "We've created a 'live' Banned Book Display at our library [Twin Hickory Public Library, Glen Allen, VA]. We have volunteer readers who sit in the display and read (silently) banned and challenged books. So far it's gotten a lot of attention – we hear a lot of 'Mom, what are those people doing in there?' The best part has been hearing parents explain to their kids what the display is all about which is exactly what we wanted to happen!"" - ☺ Cecily ☺

For us, it would be going out to eat. - Tsega Dinka
Oh Tsega, that too. I think we are going to start exploring new places to eat in LA. LA needs more love. :) - Melissa
Video games...those never get old...and with Gamefly they are affordable too. - Alex "Maverick" Scoble
Pedicures, a purse and a new outfit. i do those three things every week even if it means I'm broke (spending money broke) afterwards. It's how I treat myself for working so hard. - Monique
via fftogo
I'll tell you what I've cut out though, any camera/lens related purchases. - Tsega Dinka
same here, Tsega. And any traveling has to stop until about late November or December. :( - Melissa
I will have my Diet Coke. Oh yes. None shall deny me the nectar of the gods. - Josh Haley
up until recently it was my weekly run @ comics. but i completely stopped because i am after a few pieces of original art and a couple of (comic related) statues as well. that being said, i give my self random things at least twice a month. it could be clothes (i love buying gear) or it could be books or movies. I find that i am constantly rewarding myself and also those around me. its important to do this if you dont. its all about karmic balance i think. - Carlos Ayala
I have a 3-out Netflix sub that I split 1:2 with my wife. We also eat out pretty often. - Daniel J. Pritchett
Carlos, did I mention that you are in the running to be the new "Bud?" :D I like boys that aren't afraid to spend money on gear and look good. - Monique

internet is indulgence? o.O that's like bare necessity ! - embee
I haven't cut back on anything, really. My spending level wasn't very high to begin with. - Morton Fox
I know how to fist fight too. Holla! ;)~ - Carlos Ayala
Oh now you're just trying to turn me on. - Monique

Seriously though, I think guys need to step up their fashion game. i see to many heads around me slackin. Just because you are not in high school anymore doesnt mean you cant strive to look good. I mean the act alone does wonders to your self esteem. I see cats at work lookin like slouches meanwhile they are raking in the dough. there is no excuse for that. - Carlos Ayala
That is absolutely the reason why I continue to indulge myself weekly. Well, that and the fact that I love to shop, but the overall feeling is, if I don't love me and take care of me, how can I expect anyone else to? So, even if I end up working at Jack In The Box when our economy fails, I will be the flyest one in that bitch! - Monique

Usually I do my hair myself, but once a month I let someone else do it and it's bliss... - Vicky Pearce
actually, i post on a lot of cheap fun things to do in LA because we're broke and have kids who need to be amused. i have another post coming up soon on events next week. other posters focus on industry/celebrity type events and i know that a lot of people don't like the site because of that. they want events everyday people do, so i fill that niche. - Faboo Mama
lol Mona & KFC - that's one thing we most definitely have in common. High 5 Mona! - Zee from WeDoCreative
To be frank, the hard times haven't hit this house yet. That said, I don't think I have much in the way of indulgences. Maybe music but that's like "air" or "water", can't do without. - Jason Toney
Eating out at a good restaurant a few times a month. - AJ Kohn
Wine cellar is full... we like it that way. It's not cheap, but it's sanity and also good health (red wine does lower heart disease risks / emulsifies fats)....de-stressor! - Susan Beebe
"So, yeah, I’m done with “Heroes.” I’m done waiting for the timelines and the stories to become more linear and logical. I’m done waiting for the dumb characters to get smart and for the good characters to get fun showcases. I’m done waiting for the here and now to matter most.
It’s my bad for not knowing when to walk away. I’ve stuck around for Hiro and Ando, for the good Sylar scenes, for anything involving H.R.G. or Angela Petrelli. I’ve waited for an episode as good as “Company Man” – a “Heroes” story that tied time manipulation to a terrific character journey. But as I’ve waited, I’ve endured ever more mediocrity, derivative stories and confusion." - Jason Toney

"I think that I’ve finally figured out the proper context in which to enjoy Heroes with maximum efficiency. Heroes is like a really awesome cover band, the kind that you and your buddies go to see regularly in college when there aren’t any major acts in town. You know that it’s not going to be quite as great as something that’s totally original, but you enjoy hearing the classic tracks crunched out with abandon. The creators of Heroes have to be aware of this, too. This episode directly references elements of Watchmen ( a regular occurrence), Kingdom Come and 52, The Fly (ongoing) and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. While they are trying to take bits and pieces in new directions, it frequently feels like that band." - RAPatton

"On the cover band analogy, here’s a twist: the show often feels like it’s jamming, rather than having an organized plan. I know that it’s too much to ask that the direct referencing stop completely and go with only totally original ideas. But we would like to see some of those plots cloaked just a little more frequently.
So, the verdict? Good energy, but the stories do get weighted down in spots from their frequent familiarity. And what did you think?" - RAPatton
I still have no idea what's going on in terms of a big picture. Maybe that's for the best. - Mark Trapp
I don't get why peter needs sylar's ability without the problems. - RAPatton
Yeah, and I don't get this whole "he has to understand how the power works before he can use it" thing either. By merely walking near the radioactive guy, he was going to blow up. Why does Sylar have to teach him how his power works? - Mark Trapp
And why did the future Peter die when Claire shot him? She didn't shoot him in the head.... - Lindsay Donaghe
I was noticing the nod to The Fly but hadn't noticed the others yet - Lindsey Smith
Lindsay, I think the bullet was made out of silver or krpytonite. I wondered the same thing and that's all I could think of. - todd
I think Heroes may be on it's last days with me. I have no desire to watch last night's episode. I'm just hoping it (and NBC's horrid overall schedule) doesn't mean death to one of my favorite, underappreciated shows - Life (even if they have upped the quirky cases that don't make much sense this season). - Jason Toney
And how did future Claire get past Peter back to New York so quickly and why was he knocked out the whole time? He survived the blast because he has her power, but if it knocked him out that long it should have knocked her out too... - Lindsay Donaghe
Back to Heroes -- while I can deal with the homage (except for F'n Mohinder as BrendleFly) what I can't abide is all the scene chewing bad acting going on. Everyone is so over the top lately. Claire and Sylar especially. And that's saying a lot in the case of Sylar. - Jason Toney
I'm really enjoying Heroes this season because it's just bursting at the seams with super powers, etc. It's kind of ridiculous and I'm loving it. I'm trying pretty hard not to think very much about plot holes etc. How seriously can we take the show anyway? - McCain's Buddy Tad
He died because the Haitian was there canceling out their powers. - Jason Carreira
This whole "good guy becomes the bad guy, bad guys become the good guys" thing is annoying. It's a plot device, not a plot. - Jason Carreira
Agreed Jason. It does feel forced. I'm glad they are the anti-Lost in that the plot moves, but here it was jump cut into a mess. - todd
Ahhhh! Thanks for the Haitian insight, Jason... As Claire, I'd stay the heck away from the Haitian then... he's the only thing that could potentially kill her. - Lindsay Donaghe
Bleh. It's a shame - the first season (most of it at least) was brilliant, but now it's like the writers can't write their way out of a paper bag. - Eric
I'm pretty sure they never expected to get picked up past ep 8 which is why the season one finale sucked belly button lint in anticlimacticness and then the strike through season two into the halfassed, nonfinished state it seems to have left with (so what happened to the Irish GF stuck in the future that doesn't exist now?). Season three is attempting to clean up the FUBAR'd plot elements by screwing with time again. It's kinda pissin me off. - Michael W. May
The problem I have is that Peter and Sylar are both walking Deus Ex Machina. And we're now in the third season with the same damn plot as the first one - stopping a future from happening that we've already seen. - Eric
Heroes is the worst show because there are no stakes. Anything that happens can be undone, anyone that dies might not be dead, and anyone that cares about this show shouldn't. Could I care less about these people? LOST, please. - Cory
I read the recap of last night's show. None of it makes any sense. Skip. - Jason Toney
"Described by Olivier as the new Grace Kelly when she was 14, Diane Lane always seemed fated to remain the best actress who never quite made it. Until, that is, she was nominated for an Oscar, and smouldering lead roles started to flood in. She talks to Strawberry Saroyan about life as a fortysomething sex symbol" - RAPatton
I was seeing her for several weeks. Then someone stole my telescope. - Mark VandenBerg
well I *heard* she likes cranky old farts so piss off she's mine :) - Steven Hodson
She has a quiet beauty. I've watched whole movies because of her... - Anthony Farrior
She's always amazing. I actually have the urge to watch this movie because she's in it...oh yeah..that's out of the bag now. - Anna Lynn M.
I like her a lot...very class and pretty! - Susan Beebe
my one line review to the gere/lane movie a week ago: "not enough scenes w/ lane half naked." I should feel bad about that I think but look at her. she's just lovely. - ♥ pea ♥..!..♥..!..♥
"Premiered this morning on "Ellen," Kanye's new video smashes through a couple different walls in our brains' capacity to comprehend shit. First, it was debuted on "Ellen" (audience expansion). Second, it was co-directed by Roisín Murphy's stage director (artistic credibility). And finally, it references American Psycho, Coming to America and, uh, spaceships (we have no idea, but we're with it). And at the end of the clip, you can see the confused elation in Ellen's eyes and Kanye's just like "yep, that's it." We're flabberghasted." - Jason Toney
