5 keys to Life Satisfaction at age 53-58 (1) Sex (2) Never being unemployed (3) Avoid housework (4) Live with a partner (5) Vacations #hr77 [Harvard Class of 1977 Survey - Jason Weeden]
From 35th reunion survey - a longitudinal study (~350-500 responses). Most surprising were the factors that *didn't* make much difference in "life satisfaction": (1) Being thin (2) Time exercising (3) Church (4) Volunteering (5) Board membership (6) Kids getting into highly ranked colleges (7) Hobbies (8) Friends (9) Drinking (10) Being Employed (11) Being Male

Jason said High Income/Net-Worth/Spousal-Income helped because it allowed items #1-5, that sitting on a pile of money didn't help "Life Satisfaction". Not sure if this was a hypothesis or data-driven.
