I love how she just kept going with her performance despite the technical difficulties. Just like the song, she just kept dancing and singing and worked the crowd to her advantage. That's talent, imho.
- April Buchheit
Heck, yeah. Given all of the lip-syncing pop stars who can't seem to dance and sing at the same time, you forget what it is like to see someone who can actually perform :)

Yes, in spite of the ridiculous costumes, she does seem pretty talented.

Wow. Color me impressed. I'm gonna have to get over myself and check her out.

This girl can really sing. Like singer/songwriter credentials.
- Eric
Youtube "stefani germanotta" if you want to see her without the fashion persona.

- Chris Heath
i'm not really a fan of hers but this (and other things like her NYU years) makes me think a lot more of her than i did previously... now if she would just focus on the music instead of the circus i might become a fan... her pr/marketing people have turned me (and a lot of others) away just because of the spectacle that is her persona... do not want
- Chris Heath
but they sure are geniuses for keeping her in the press constantly... i guess
- Chris Heath
I agree: fantastic recovery and amazing live singing!
- Son of Groucho
I agree with his reasons 100% - I've gotten incredibly nervous in interviews and it always screws up my thought process. I used to have the same problem playing trumpet - I was first-chair trumpet all through High School but when it came to competition I'd always tense up and screw up my audition.
- Jesse Stay
I've gone through some pretty rigorous interviews and even gotten the job, but there are some I've gone through that when I get home I realize how badly I messed up because I was nervous.

I should take in my ][+ and see if they can tell my why it sometimes spontaneously drops out of Basic and back to the assembler prompt.

If anyone has an old Mac in the bay area and is willing to lend it to me I'll see what they say at the Palo Alto Apple store :) I guess I would also need help catching it on film.

I don't think I have my Mac 128K anymore, though it *might* be in my mom's garage.

I really like this one. It's like a combination of the built-in WinXP Task Manager and Sysinternals' Process Explorer.
- Niklas Pivic
It also seems to show the origin of processes, as to which program started a particular process so you can quickly also find which resources are being occupied by which resources. Something like exedb integration would've been better to know about the origins of unknown processes.

Google says that reCAPTCHA’s technology improves the process that converts scanned images into plain text, known as Optical Character Recognition (OCR). It sounds like Google will be using the technology to power massive scanning projects for Google Books and Google News Archive Search as well as for fraud and spam prevention.

"Lately we’ve received tips about several different sites with the same purpose: finding embarrassing tweets or Facebook (Facebook) posts for everyone to laugh at. Many users seem to forget (or perhaps they just don’t care) the fact that tweets are (by default) public, and decide to share…well, a little bit too much about themselves."

"Russian guys makes knives made of sapphire. These knives can be easily taken inside the airplane in your handbag, for example if you care about your right to use your knife anywhere you want. These knives cannot be discovered by any sort of metal-detector, they have none metal parts at all. Their blades are being made from artificial sapphire, the same material that is being used to make non-scratchable watches by leading Swiss brands. Handles are made of the bone. Only diamonds exceed it in the hardness, so anybody can easily make his name carved on the airplanes bull’s-eye airplane window. It scratches glass without any difficulty and can be sharpened only with special diamond whetstone."

"YouTube managed to achieve something incredible: browsers now cache YouTube videos and you can load the same video multiple times from the local cache. Try to go to a YouTube video, wait until the video is buffered and then reload the page. You'll notice that the video starts instantly and you can watch it directly from your browser's cache. This works even if you close the tab and open the same page later. If you have a slow Internet connection or if you frequently watch some videos, the new feature allows you to cache the videos, close the browser and watch the videos at a later time. You may want to increase the size of your browser's cache to preload longer videos. Here are YouTube's recommendations for dial-up connections: "For best results, you may want to start the video player and then click on the PAUSE button immediately. Then, wait until the red progress bar has reached the end of the video before playing it. Allowing the entire video buffer lets you watch it without interruption.""

"But where UberTwitter gets really interesting is its location-aware features. By utilizing the GPS on your phone and cell tower triangulation, UberTwitter knows where you are. And it then applies this data to the application’s other features. For example, you can search for all people tweeting about “lunch” within 10, 15, or 50 miles of you. You can also simply view a timeline of recent tweets from around your area."

One thing I have noticed is that in any ovie, v show, etc where anything odd happens, the English are always portrayed as standing in place saying something like "This can't be happening" or some stupid thing like that, when it clearly IS happening. Is this some sort of national trait? I like to think that if, say, the dead rise and turn on the living, I would fight back + run to safety FIRST and worry about the ontological implications after.

My cousin dl'ed the Moron Test and tried to get me to take it. I told him he'd already failed because he was a moron for buying it in the first place. He was unamused. I wasn't.

To be fair, he's kind of a tool, so it's less a reflection of the app and more a reflection of how much I want to throw him off the nearest high-rise.

I encourage you to check out Jesus, you might like him. He said "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! He apparently also said, "I come not to bring peace, but a sword" and "but those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me." (Matthew 10:34) & (Luke 19:27). You assume religion is rejected out of ignorance. In fact, on average, those who reject religion are more knowledgeable about it than believers.
- Tanath
Tanath, many who reject Christ do so because of the hypocrisy of those who claim to follow him. As you pointed out, Jesus indeed said “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. When the nobleman returns, he has the detractors slaughtered. The parable would have been familiar to the hearers, as it is...

Oh, Duh. Got it, Kevin. This reminds me of the British man who sang opera. It was unbelievable. I think our American shows shoudn't limit the age. I'd love to see what some of the older folks here can do.

Dawn, America's got talent doesn't limit age either

Not bad! I still prefer this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch... - That said, it was a surprisingly good performance. Not as much as Paul Potts, who was entirely horripilative and transcendent.

Awesome performance. I've never seen the look of pleasant surprise on Simon's face before. You could tell that even he enjoyed it. He still needs to get a better haircut though.

Britain may have talent, but that's more than I can say for Simon Cowell. The man is the Antichrist, as far as i'm concerned.
- Iain Baker
He was a tamed little kitteh for 6 minutes during that performance though.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Don't know enough about Cowell to make a value judgement on the man. Sometimes (and I don't know if this is the case with Cowell) the a-hole attitude is a public front. It's possibly the case with Gordon Ramsey, and it certainly is with Ann Robinson - I've been to a recording of 'The Weakest Link' at Pinewood Studios, and she switches 'bitch mode' on and off along with the cameras.
- Ian May
Wow! Brings back memories when I first saw paul potts...
- Jorg Jansen
Seriously? This reeks of scripted viral. The show caught (online) fire in '07 with the Paul Potts audition...arguably the hottest shared video of the year. When the show returned last year, there wasn't an act even minutely close to the WOM impact Potts had generated the privious year. Clearly the BGT online buzz strategy for '09... Potts 2.0. #fail

Break free from the rigid and mechanical style of standard point-and-click desktops. Interact by pushing, pulling and piling documents with elegant, self revealing gestures. BumpTop's stunning interface makes clever use of 3D presentation and smooth physics-based animations for an engaging, vivid user experience. BumpTop has people talking. A video of the BumpTop interface is the most watched video of software on YouTube, ever. Other stories include NY Times, PCWorld, MIT Tech Review, Digg (twice) and others. BumpTop was also presented at TED 2007. We are in active development of the technology, stay tuned to the mailing list for release information." -- BumpTop is not publicly available just yet, but sign up for the mailing list to be the first to try it. Anthony I've tried it. If you're a customization junkie then this is a great addition for your desktop software. For those that live on the web, it won't be all that great. I still love it though.
- Corvida
James you can't invite people to download the software. You'll have to go to the site and register for an invite.
- Corvida
Frederic http://friendfeed.com/frederic had a few invites going last week, not sure if he has any left now though... It's xp/vista only too which is why i passed on it. Looks cool though

Pretty but useless. Who wants the same clutter as your desktop?
- fbrunel
i don't know fbrunel...after seeing it in action, the idea of knowing where you put things like you would in a room...and yet having almost unlimited space to play with - it could work. Need to play with it properly though before knowing for sure though, you could be right.
- Zee.
It looks like there now is a mechanism to send out a limited number of invites, I'm assuming it's to the beta and not just to the beta sign-up. I sent one to @Havaslash and I'll be glad to send others out, if people can confirm that it is a real invite to use the software.
- Aram Zucker-Scharff
I'm sorry, but why simulate a interaction system that we only (used to) deal with because of the restraints of physical space? Sometimes, it doesn't make sense. That said, I would still love to try this out.
- Chieze Okoye
I'd like an invite. This would be greatly efficient when applied to touch interface (Microsoft Surface). The renovation is that when digitals contain physics, they can be more easily sorted (like the crumple, pile, hang, card decks, etc)
- brainno722 (Peter)
I've been waiting for awhile for this to become active. I love the concept of organizing like the real world.
- ЯIИGҜIИG
I guess I just don't see why this would be any better than a Windows GUI-like folder system augmented with a good system-wide search (a la Google Desktop, Windows Search or Spotlight). I just need convincing that directly mimicking the physical interaction like this is, at the end of the day, actually 'better' somehow than simply approximating it (as we do now). It seems like a lot of 3d overhead for not much gain (if any at all)...
- Chieze Okoye
...That said, I *could* see how something like this on Surface would be pretty awesome for fiddling with.
- Chieze Okoye
I bet on Java for enterprise development and Grails for rapid development. I think .NET is already dead. Don't forget java is not "just another language!" java is JCP and thousands of related technologies. just look at companies they support java and use java in their productions and middlewares.
- farzaam
Even MySQL is not a part of LAMP now! its part of Java technology
- farzaam
They mentioned this at the GAE meetup but no hints as to which language. PHP would make sense as it would suck up a lot of business from other providers. Java apps tend to have more complicated architectures where PHP is usually LAMP and GAE easily replaces LAMP.
- Todd Hoff
I forgot about GWT. Java in GAE would give Google a very nice end-to-end development environment. Not quite visual studio, but getting there.
- Todd Hoff
I bet against Java. My money's on PHP.
- Clay Newton
I'll bet on Java, because this is one of the main language they use inside th googleplex beside C++ and python. And they have some experience in developing a custom version for android.

I'm with Zee on this, TweetDeck just doesn't do it for me. Twhirl will always feel more natural, plus the addition of Custom Search, FriendFeed, Identica and cross-posting with Ping.fm - it's the one pushing all the limits. I try to stay open minded, but that's the way the cookies crumbled.
