I'm an Otter.. but could be a snake or porcupine. I feel like I should float on my back and crack some abalone now.

What's too bad is that I saw robot's results and chuckled http://friendfeed.com/nicerob... I thought, "Oh that sucks, I bet I'll be something cool like an eagle." :(

I don't even eat meat and I want that right now.
- joey
Joey... I have a vegie alternative. You get large flat mushrooms and lie them stem up on a try. Put about 2 tablespoons of butter on each with chopped up chilli and salt. Bake for about 30 minutes in a medium oven. They take on the taste and texture of fresh, tender beef.
- Johnny Worthington
Hahaha...I was just mocking the typo of garlic Mo...I eat garlic bread for breakfast...:) Hence being single still... :)
- Bill Heslin
Johnny I was just going to say....substitute grilled Portabello's for the meat..that sounds yummers too

It's about time Starbucks started offering some Jewish holiday food! (Although macaroons are more Pesach than Chanukka.)
- Mark Davidson
from BuddyFeed
Macarons, not macaroons. There's a difference... I don't think macarons are especially a Jewish dessert, but I could be wrong. I really do want these!
- Kamilah Gill
I was unlucky enough to visit Paris before I knew what these were! wah! :( I'll be happy to try some from Starbucks, though. I might order some online from Laduree, or maybe, if I'm fortunate, I'll get back to Paris again.
- Kamilah Gill
Kamilah - when I get back to my computer, I'll send you a list of my favorite macaron places in the US - Bouchon and Jean Georges not included (they're too sweet and get the filling to cookie ratio wrong!) So glad to see there are people who love them as much as me! :) #macaronloversUNITE

Thanks, peeps. I've been walking around with a buzzed head since May, but it's getting chilly so I decided to work on growing my half-fro back for the winter.

Dood...liking the tight cut. A little fade in there?
- JA Castillo
I caught the pic before the caption and was about to be all like "Damn! Look at Derrick all lined up and isht!"Now, my comment makes even more sense. LOL. I'm about to try and grow a half-fro as well, but it's cuz my head is just shaped funny and I wanted to try something new :)

I know exercise and writing does wonders for me. Maybe you need an outlet that will work for you? I know you stay home with the kids. Do you have any "me" time?
- Shevonne
it's that, it's the state of my marriage, it's no longer having a career, it's money problems, it's health, it's worry about my kids' futures, it's baggage from my youth, it's fearing the death of my parents, it's hundreds of other things as well...the end is listless, as they say.
- Joe Silence is not dead
Joe, you need to worry about things you can control. I am an overanalyzer, and I had to learn to stop focusing on things that were out of my control. Not having a career...you can do something about that. Not sure what you used to do for a living, but usually you can do some consulting. Kids' future...all you can do is raise them the best you can. Maybe you should see a therapist
- Shevonne
Listen to Shevonne. She is wise. And Im sorry you're going through this.
- Mary Carmen
:( Trouble on multiple fronts is so tough to handle. And I too think Shevonne is right.
- Thursday Lo :)
This is why i lojacked mine. I lose it all the time. Granted there isn't much left though so its easy to lose.
- CW™
Do you take any sort of anti-depressants? I used to feel like you do a lot. I am now taking Cymbalta. It helps me.
- Gunny doesn't side-hug™
@Shevonne: i would but therapy costs money and we're bleeding to death. strangely, my wife is ready to throw money at a gym membership for me cos she's convinced it would clear my mind a bit. at least it would start to address some of my health concerns, tho.
- Joe Silence is not dead
@Gunny: i was on Zoloft from '94-'96 and again for awhile in '02. it helped a little to make it possible for me to function while attempting to sort out with a therapist what was causing the problem. but long-term it was doing damage, so i stopped.
- Joe Silence is not dead
mercifully, my old issues are long sorted...so this is mostly new stuff from the past decade. small comfort. :P
- Joe Silence is not dead
<Man-Hug> Feel better Joe. I'm justtrying to avoid the Xmas blues. I get them everyyear.
- Gunny doesn't side-hug™
i get them myself. i don't wonder if that's helping to trigger this episode, in fact.
- Joe Silence is not dead
i barely get out. i haven't gotten anything done musically since the RPM Challenge in February. nearly all my friends have moved to other cities years ago and i have yet to make new ones. cabin fever and creative frustration are definitely feeding this.
- Joe Silence is not dead
I don't have any words of wisdom to offer Joe, just words of support.
- Junebug (aka Sarah Jill)
Joe, I'm really sorry life is piling on you like this. I know I get this way sometimes, too, and it feels like, as they say, I'm stuck in a moment that I can't get out of. Shevonne's words are wise: Take the big list of things that are worrying you and pull off the stuff that you can't directly control. That leaves you with the list of stuff you CAN control. Pick just ONE thing and work...

Dude I've been through a lot of crazy stressful stuff in the past year: health, relationships, job loss & hunt, money running low, tax issues, and other stuff I can't bring up here ... I empathize with you. You gotta let go of the stuff you can't control and live in the present WHILE making proper plans for the future. In other words, be prepared, but don't live in the mind state of...

Exercise sounds like a great idea, and you don't really have to pay for it. Walking has helped me so much, and running when I get really anxious. You can also use your couch for all sorts of exercises, and there's isometric/bodyweight things to do as well. I think I have a video of couch exercises somewhere, if you're interested...
- Thursday Lo :)
hugs, honey pie. I'm with everyone on the exercise thing. Lots of studies saying exercise significantly helps with depression. but mostly just hugs. hang in there. holidays are a tough time especially.
- Call me Bronco
*HUGS* I just saw this and I hope you're feeling a bit better. I have anxiety issues and often face the same type of overwhelming emotions when it just seems like everything is falling apart and you can't tackle the pieces one by one. Shevonne's advice is spot on. And remember that you are providing your children with a foundation for the future but you are not solely responsible for...

I have no advice for you. It seems there's plenty of good advice here already. But what I can I give you: an offer to listen with no agenda. I'm just a DM away. This is Friendfeed, right? So I'll be a friend. A real-life friend might be better, but it sounds like there may be a shortage there from what you've written in the comments.

If you haven't got access to even sliding scale mental health care, you'll have to bootstrap it. I highly recommend David Burns "Feeling Good", but it's not going to do you much good unless you're willing to write stuff down. Writing stuff down is key to cognitive behavior therapy. Along similar lines, there's an excellent program/web app called Optimism. http://www.findingoptimism.com/...

I hate when that happens... (losing one's mind... again.) I know I'm headed for a rough patch when I start tearing up at commercials! Especially any that involve dogs. Just remember that you don't have to deal with it alone. It's hard to find a confidant who understands exactly what you're going through, but there are people who have good intuitive insights and are just good listeners.....

Wishing you all the best as you get through this, Joe. There's some good advice in this thread. I hope you can find what you need. Exercise, rest, friends, journals, therapy... there's something out there that will work for you. We're all here for you. :)

i've been invited to jam tomorrow night with a local band headed by a long-time friend of mine (we've been in a couple of bands together over the years and done some albums in the murky past), and that will be good therapy for me. i just need to keep away from the bottle.
- Joe Silence is not dead
Yay! You can do it. Music sounds like an excellent idea. Have fun!
- Laura Lou Who
I echo all the good advice offered here. Thinking of you, Joe. Tomorrow night sounds great!

This reminds me of that 'résumés in plain language' site that was around during the dotcom crash. It presented this kind of language in actual, real language (but in a snarky way, of course). It was hilarious. This probably would be translated into 'I can have conversations with people. Even people not on my own team!'
- Akiva Moskovitz
I understand, Joe =) But seriously, if anyone knows of a job where I can get paid for talking like a longshoreman, lemme know!

Tina, have you found any particular websites with good resume/cover letter advice? I think I need to think again about mine and since you've done so much research recently....
- WorldofHiglet
...and I am totally amazed at how much work you have put into finding work. If you ever get the chance it would be really interesting and inspiring if you get chance to document your journey back into employment (because it can only be a matter of time before you land a job).

Dell Customer Service caused me to have a client of mine dead in the water for six days. OK, it was the client's fault they had mislaid the original media, but my first call to Dell had me believe they had none in stock, and they suggested a download from elsewhere, which I argued wouldn't work (and didn't). Upon a second call, they 'found' the media I wanted, and only then shipped it out. I wouldn't buy from them myself. Not good value anyway.
- Ian May
I have had the most problems with Optus customer service. "Service" being debatable.
- Mellissa Claus
I've never bothered to call Dell Customer Service. I once spent two hours on the phone with Verizon to fix an internet connection.

I've been carefully watching Joshua for a long time. He's the baby of the family and is way smarter than me, so there might have been some jealousy involved, even back when he was a baby. But maybe I was just making sure he was OK.....but from the look on my face, it's probably the jealousy thing....But I love him....And he IS heavy....hee hee
ok, you and your sister win. pretty darn cute I must admit. But Josh and I can take you in a Buffalo Wing eating contest.

It's our older brother Sean. I don't think he's on here, but he should be! He's 2.5 years older than me and Josh is 4 years younger. Yes, I am a middle child. And I'm a Leo. Can you tell?

Look, I know I say this a lot but... Seriously, what would I do without Rachael? Today she was a rock (a stone cold fox of a rock) and she knew just the right time to ask me how I was or give me a hug. I love her more than I could ever say. Thanks babe, I will always need you... and I am grateful for that (Plus, how cute is she in this picture)
