Cool, so I just need to write a script to click that link and record the stream so the file is waiting for me when I sync my MP3 player. Modern technology makes it so much easier than when we had to use clunky old VCRs to record things!

Christian, I think what they're saying is that you can put the MP4 on your playback device and listen to it and ignore the video component. I know that works on iPods and iPhones.

Steve, the msg you're referring to was here just a few seconds, I realized it'd provoke the kind of response it has, and decided I didn't want to go there. Re being unproductive, I've had a cold this week and have been unable to do dev work, but I'm feeling better and expect to releas some new software this week. Don't expect TC to cover it, as usual. Finally Steve as you know the <cloud> element has been in RSS for eight years, hardly a retrofit.

Except for the whole FriendFeed dying slowly in the obscure ghetto of the digirati part. As Mike said, FF in FB is better than no FF at all. FriendFeed users are far better off having it than watching it its gradual anemia grow worse and worse until one day it vanishes.

It is really hard to see how FB will do more than incorporate staff and ideas from FF. FriendFeed's design of being a very open aggregator is very different than FB's walled garden ethic. I also think part of what attracted me to prefer FF over FB is the clean interface, as opposed to FB fire-in-a-bordello presentation style. I hope FB really listens on the UI side and not just on the aggregator side, or works just mines out the staff.

I'll admit to being a recent convert to FF but it was the best social site I have used yet (and I have used them all). I am sorry to see it lose it's independence. This will not end well for FF groupies. But my reading of the tea leaves is that FF options as a standalone service were not good. I guess this is a sign of a maturing market. I agree with Dave's original assertion. I'm struggling to imagine the value Facebook could add to FriendFeed, and I can certainly imagine the downsides. Having an aggregator that sits independently on top of the commercial pile, while fleeting as a free service, is a valuable one.

I have my suspicions too. But Facebook have been wanting to open up more for some time (e.g., they're eliminating regional networks), and I'm guessing they see FF as the key. I'm betting they'll fuse the two services soon. But let's hope they use FF to improve FB. But there's always a big chance FB will ruin FF. Stay tuned...

+1 for A Mitchell's insights. If tr.im and FF have taught us anything, it's that no matter how many open api's there are, a closed platform is still a closed platform, and it can disappear overnight. We need a decentralized yet federated way to do all that FF did (and more). If it's not decentralized, we don't have redundancy. if it's not federated, we lose community an conversation.

another +1, Don and A Mitchell. I just finished a blog post along almost exactly the same lines, Don...decentralization and federation are both key. Good news is, this is historically how things go...nerds only, then mainstream joins, but centralized (think AOL, Compuserve, Prodigy...services and email that couldn't talk to each other). As the systems mature, then value of decentralization becomes apparent. This week could actually be an important milestone in speeding up that process *here's to hoping...*.

@Ian...Wave is a federated, decentralized, (to be) open-sourced solution. It's complicated, but it's at worst an architecture lock-in (ie, it might be hard to move a large corpus of Wave-annotated data out of the Wave infrastructure). Unless Google is pulling a flat-out lying fast one...there won't be any reason why you can't run your "own" instance of Wave and connect to the rest of the Net. So not standard company lock-in.

One of the best parts have been getting to listen to extended conversations from people like Doc Searls, Marc Cantor, Dan Farber, Jason Calacanis before I even knew who they were.

I liked the GG days when the argument always ended up being mufflers vs. ferraris. I liked when Dana Gardner and Mike Vizard were on the show. The days of trying to figure out if Enterprise or "Web. 2.0" was more important. Those were good and important conversations.

The verbal broadsides and carny-like grandstanding were wiped from importance by a single conclusive sentence from Doc or Hugh. By no means do I think GG is going away. I just wanted to send out some good energy as it feels like GG is about to transform yet again. The last time there was this much tension on the show NGL was born. One time Steve took an entire year away. I have faith that I will get to hear our friends again, I just don't know what the form will be, I just know that I will enjoy it.

There are so many that I can't even pick one favorite. Gillmor Gang was the very first podcast I listened to, back when it was on Adam Curry's network. The first thing I learned was to THINK. But if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Doc Searls and Steve's Attention Deficit Podcasts.

Totally with Jonatahn Brown- back in the IT Conversation days, this was THE podcast to listen to. I'd stay at work longer on fridays so I could download it for the drive home. Unfortunately right now it's just a shadow of its former self - wish it came back.... What happened to the last episode, anyway? Did they not publish it?

The Gillmor Gang gained traction with me on a cold night in January 2006 while driving home listening to Steve painstakingly explained to Michael Arrington (and me) the theory of gestures. A show with something for everybody: great content, timely subject matter and high drama [lol].

Jonathan: I loved it in the days of Dana Gardner, Mike Vizard and Robert Anderson. Still big fans of theirs, too. But the thing I love most is that even with the evolution in guests and content, it is still the Gillmor Gang, and it's still as much fun as ever.

Oh, SNAP. yes, the quiet Doc Searls, who would say nothing and then... bam! one line summed up the whole show. He did that a couple of times on NGL too...the fifth guy.

One of my favorite moments was when Calacanis twittered the call-in number. Steve was annoyed at first but just rolled with it when someone actually called in. That was the start of News Gang Live, which had a really great run and will hopefully come back someday.

Me too. I had to actually make myself shut up on NGL and let those spaces be empty...and it taught me a lot about timing, and attention, and lots of things. I tend to be like Leo...the urge is to fill the empty space.

I liked listening to Arrington (and Scoble and Doc and etc.). This was my favorite podcast because of the great conversations and divergent view points. I drive long distances between job sites and am on the road a lot, and this was always the first podcast I listened to. It is such a shame about the blow-up because it followed touching thoughts on how a group of people learned of the death of someone they cared about, and it would have been a great conversation on how a company sends out review units.

I think that Arrington both added and subtracted from the show in general. Steve has always told me to give it a break, me realizing that the provocateur role creates movement in the conversation. Maybe it's the lawyer thing, having someone really good on the other side; it makes it hard to enjoy when his skill makes you lose most of your cases.

MC was baiting, but he and the others, including JC, knew it was driving the show forward. My read was that the back and forth never lost its equilibrium. The gang dynamic was in full swing, and the venting well represents pent up feelings in the wider social/economic climate. Good stuff.

"a) Its He not she. b) Perhaps Compassion is the wrong word. From what I have heard it sounds like the guy has mental issues. Having dealt/been around people with mental issues lately, you have to wonder if (assuming it is true the guy has issues) it is 100% his fault or if we as a scoeity have to look at ourselves and say did we help him enough. Perhaps the answer is yes. So, 1000% yes he should face the court and wear what ever punishment is coming him but is saying "I hope someone can burn his house down" helpful? No. In fact if anything it justifies the courts idea of putting a supression order on the guys name. I mean are we as a public really helped by knowing it or does it just open up the media to this sort of crap and does it just put poor victims, maybe in a bad mental place themselves, in risk of doing something silly against this guy and/or his family."
