I don't bother anymore - I just tweet a corrected version.
- Roberto Bonini
If the News is your business, a) Get your facts straight in the first place. b) If you got it wrong, apologize and retract. Delete only to avoid confusion.
- Shey, Jamaican of FF
I don't have a problem with it - most people on twitter do not try to be journalists or analysts so why hold them to impossible standards? And if an automated feed receives something illegal or incorrect, better to remove it than to let it cause damage
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
It's a "news" service with over 18k followers. If they are calling themselves "news" they need to act accordingly to journalistic standards and ethics. Over 18,000 people are following them Have you heard of the game telephone?
- Mona Nomura
What they did was not ideal, but I believe if they would have left the original tweet there, 80% of the internet lazies would not have bothered to read the retraction and spread false news. At any rate, it's a no win situation
- Bwana ☠
yes, if something risks starting some bad misinformation, better to remove it - especially on twitter where each post is totally independent from previous posts
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
There are third party publishing tools that don't delete Tweets.

I´ve seen more all caps catastrophe posts there lately which have just disappeared and not been mentioned on news sites. Thought some kid had their password and unfollowed.
- Thomas Bøhm
someone might have hacked the chain somewhere. That or they come from the future!
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Hacking is such a 90s excuse...

I think that if you are an important person, it would look good on you if you won't ever delete something. It's part of accountability. Yet at the same time, people shouldn't judge on the basis of a few mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, even our leaders, even the stars. Humans are fallible. I'd be very wary of people who don't seem to make mistakes.
- Meryn Stol
So it's ok that they're deeming themselves a "news source" with 18k+ followers since they're human? Mistakes happen but deleting retractions - I'm not sure about that.
- Mona Nomura
Joelle: in the case of the risk misinformation, it's far better to explicitly distance yourself from a previously made statement. It only helps to strengthen the "revised" statement.
- Meryn Stol
I often edit my FF posts soon (seconds) after I post them. I do a kind of grammar check after I hit submit.
- Meryn Stol
I jsut edited my headline for you, Peter. It's a news 'source' with 18k+ followers.
- Mona Nomura
Do we even have confirmation yet that they indeed have control of their account, or is this typical internet unearned indignance?
- Matthew DeVries
Um, that is what the screen shot of the DM is there for.

Ah, I see. Well let's get a hard copy to bring to the Sub-Committee hearings.

What is that app you're using there, that puts it cool text bubbles? Looks Mac'ie. I probably can't get it.
- Matthew DeVries
It's Twitter phone (free) I've actually received a few more DMs from them. Maybe I'll write a blog post.

Like Meryn, I will also find a grammar issue with FF posts right after I post them; even after looking several times.
