Gross: Viacom asking DirecTV 30% increase ($1B) to carry its channels Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon http://www.latimes.com/enterta...
All of this fragmentation (Dish dropping AMC, DirecTV and Viacom disagreeing over money) is really bad for the TV industry -- it will lead to even more people dropping cable / satellite and sticking with Hulu, Netflix, and other IP-based providers. - Tudor Bosman
Hulu, Netflix, etc. are fragmented too. TV is becoming more unpleasant. I think the competition for cable TV isn't only IP-based TV. It's also other forms of entertainment. FriendFeed, Facebook, Farmville, Angry Birds. - Amit Patel
Fragmentation in IP-based TV is a smaller problem. I can have subscriptions to both Netflix and Hulu Plus, and it would cost significantly less (and be less annoying) than having two dishes on the roof (one for DirecTV and one for Dish Network), two sets of receiving equipment, and all associated cabling. - Tudor Bosman
Yeah, when the contracts come up for renewal, the studios and networks are going to play hardball with Netflix and Hulu too. (I realize Hulu is owned by the networks...) - Andrew C (✓) from Android
