Sony Vaio Pocket: The Fancy Mystery Netbook Leaked
That thing is gonna be at least $999 with all those options. - Eric @ CS Techcast
It's totally bloated and defeats the purpose of a netbook. I can't stand Sony anway. - Mona Nomura
I just know VAIOs aint cheap, so it doesn't exactly fit my definition of a netbook. - MiniMage, sheeple of FF
Oh, we have to think of a new name for netbooks http://jkontherun.com/2008... - Mona Nomura from IM
Mona N++. Besides, like they said in the ad "it´s not a pc, it´s a vaio", I guess they´re going to make a new product segment for overdone small laptop bricks called "pocket vaio" or something. I see the weight´s not listed. - Thomas Bøhm
Apple is the new Sony. ;) - Mona Nomura from IM
I sense the coming flood of notebooks disguised as netbooks or whatever you wanna call them now. - Mauricio
Of course, Mauricio - why wouldn't it? - Mona Nomura
The netbook classification seems artificial to me. What's it good for? - scott anderson
Consumerization - 'netbook' gives the general nuance of affordability. - Mona Nomura from IM
The general public automatically equate "laptop" to "$$$$$$$$$$$$$". Because of the growing popularity of netbooks, notebooks outsold desktops for the first time ever. Source: 1 http://bit.ly/lTMp and 2. http://bit.ly/ta1t found via Gizmodo. But the real winner? Intel. - Mona Nomura from IM
Yeah, I kind of thought a netbook would need to have internet access to reach its full potential. If it's pricey and can fulfill all your processing, storage and multimedia needs by itself, is it a netbook? - MiniMage, sheeple of FF
While always connected would be ideal for me, I wouldn't say it's a requirement. I wouldn't want a dumb terminal. However, I wouldn't ask for an affordable, extremely portable machine to be able to do it all without being online. - MiniMage, sheeple of FF
Minimage - Netbooks have Ethernet and WiFi, it just omits WiFi "A". There's no Bluetooth but in the US, does that really matter? And there's no 3G (which is irrelevant at this time, since 3G is still up and coming). Though the more important factor is the general public. WiFi B and G, WiFi N or A - they don't care, since most will ask: Q: Can I get on the Internet. A: Yes. = end of story = sold. - Mona Nomura from IM
I took a look at Acer's Netbook product page. The description could be for a ultra-notebook. Too vague in my opinion. I think the benefit of the new term is for marketers rather than consumers. Interesting, the title of the page still says 'Tablet PCs' ... http://acer.com/product... - scott anderson
If it were a device that booted directly into a browser and did not have any support for native apps then that would be something new. Especially if it included a local http server for offline apps. - scott anderson
Bluetooth matters for me, I suppose, because of Internet Sharing with a phone. Saw an Acer yesterday that was being paired with a Cricket plan, but I've got 2 phones with data plans already; I'm not signing up with anyone else. Do I want WiFi A? I'll tell you what I really want; it's the Asus R50. I'm thinking about giving my R2H 1 more shot with the latest I've seen on Vista optimization, but I've given up hope. A UMPC that can't use its WiFi is useless for me. http://www.tabletpcblogs.com/blogs... - MiniMage, sheeple of FF
@scott a: That´s what I thought a netbook was the first time I heard the term. - Thomas Bøhm
@Scott: Nice catch! - MiniMage, sheeple of FF
Scott (and all) thanks for contributing your knowledge. This discussion is pretty priceless (and useful!) for those interested in 'netbooks'. - Mona Nomura from IM
