That's difficult. Grilled cheese is awesome (http://www.meltbarandgrilled.com/) but I do love a good tuna melt. Also a huge corned beef sandwich from a Jewish deli (preferably in NYC) is hard to beat.
- Benjamin Golub
Pastrami on rye, New York deli style.
- Jeremy Brooks
Cucumber and peanut butter. PB and lettuce also works.
- Ken Morley
The Morgan Sandwich: Take 2 slices of Carla Gugino, a generous portion of Morgan (that's me!), season with sea salt. Garnish with sunshine. Serve and enjoy!
- Morgan Haley
My awesome mayo spread made with fresh herbs from my garden, with lettuce, spinach, Big Boy tomatoes, Maui & red onions soaked in olive oil, minced jalapenos & cilantro, sheep's milk basque and sharp cheddar, smoked turkey breast (not that deli crap) and a thin slice of braised roast beef, sliced chili peppers (jalapeno or habanero makes no difference), a dash of seasoned olive oil all on a fresh French roll.
- Admiral Anika
It's a toss up for me between a French Dip or a Cuban Sandwich.
- Michelle Martinez
I should clarify, BTW, that a torta cubana (my runner-up answer) isn't Cuban. It's Mexican, and it's a glorious celebration of excess.

The Fern's Problem Solver at Hi-rise Bread Co in Cambridge, MA. (Hi-rise brined and roasted turkey, monterey jack, avocado, russian dressing on semolina, grilled)
- Dan Hsiao
OMG speakign of Boston -- Sam Lagrasse's pastrami is the BOMB. You guys eat some fancy sandwiches...
- Mona Nomura
from IM
Princeton - I have a friend otu there, maybe it's time for a trip. BTW has anyone eaten at that infamous Rutger's truck? Shawn - just ham?
- Mona Nomura
Ah, Mona, you are speaking of my alma mater's famous Grease Trucks. Yea, many a drunken night have I wandered to the famed Grease Trucks, and yea, I have indulged in the Fat Beach (Bitch) and Fat Mojo and verily regretted it the next morning. Overrated in the face of Hoagie Haven, trust me.
- Mike Nayyar
prosciutto, fresh mozz, basil, balsamic, extra virgin olive oil and some red cherry peppers
- Jim Iz Not on Ur List
That's strange, no votes for "Cheese and Pickle" or "vegemite" yet... Where are the Brits and Aussies? [edit: I missed the Marmite back at the start; counts as vegemite, but with cheese ??? - I thought that mixing it in Kraft singles was what killed it in the US market)
- David HC Soul
@David, I'm Aussie, but man I hate Vegeshite. @Mona Urk, too many awesome choices. For me it's chicken/turkey, evil mayo, fresh lettuce on foccacia, with maybe a little bit of Harissa
- Mo Kargas
OMG, Mo, harissa! Thank you, thank you...I've been trying to remember the name of that stuff, mix it up with the name for the Asian sauce which pretty much the same thing.
- Admiral Anika
@Anika Harissa is awesome. I add it to my otherwise pedestrian and boring pasta sauces on the rare occasion I have pasta for a bit of zing. Also a few drops of Tabasco :)
- Mo Kargas
Black Angus Ground sirloin, with crispy onions, crumbled gorgonzola cheese, chipotle mayonaise, shredded lettuce, on a Kaiser bun (the Red Robin chain has something similar with their Blue Ribbon Burger, and Weber Grill in Chicago is close with their "black and blue burger" but I had this sandwich somewhere along Highway 1 north of San Francisco but have never been able to find the place since... So now I have to settle for my own (feeble) attempts at home)
- David HC Soul
There's nothing lightweight about a BLT, Jim, except those who don't like them.
- Alex Scoble
+1 m.0: wasabi grilled cheese at Bleu in Seattle. Had one yesterday!
- Erica Toelle
Mo, if we go out and it's on the table, then it's on our food, but there's a Thai version and an Indian version too. Yummy.
- Admiral Anika
OK, now you guys are naming sandwiches from certain places. Places I can't go. That's not fair!
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
@Anika Thai and Indian versions too? Hmm sounds awesome! I've had Moroccan, Algerian and Tunisian versons, and recently one made locally in Australia. Each one seems to differ in some way :)
- Mo Kargas
@ mona, That's what I said when I first heard about it but it is to die for. I swear!
- m.0
Yes, the Indian versions are usually out on the table with the chutney and that red paper in oil stuff. As the Thai or Malay places we have to ask for it because it's actually really hot.
- Admiral Anika
Turkey, roast beef, avocado, tomato, tons of olives, lettuce, and bacon
- MarkCarras
Polish cold cuts on rye bread with mustard and mayo + a slice of tomato :)
- Michael Forian
Damn you for skirting around the rules, Haley.
- Mike Nayyar
Excellent choice, Dave W- not my fav (I don't like oysters highly enough) but they are a definite must whenever in NO - who would have thought there could be such a thing as a "destination sandwich" - I'll have to plan my next trip down!
- David HC Soul
