Sounds fair. Usually you can tell by the clothes colors though.

No cut off age. I still get the gender mixed up. With the haircuts and clothing styles it is often hard to guess even when they are fully grown.

It's completely acceptable to confuse a long-haired boy with a girl and a short-haired girl with a boy. And if they get offended you get to poke them in the eye. Them's the rules.
