How fast do you read? Me: 0-50 words per minute. I took the test four times. http://mindbluff.com/askread...
750-800 words a minute. I can usually finish a paperback in about 2-3 hours. - Jauder Ho
I read fast too... sometimes to fast! :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
That's called skimming! But I can finish two paperback flying from JFK / La Guardia / EWR to SFO. - Mona Nomura from IM
i'm a afraid to take the test, might not get back here for hours :( - ernie yacub
mine is 400 - 450 ... - Alemsah Ozturk
"You read between 450 - 500 words per minute. Well above average reading level. (The average rate is between 200 - 250 words per minute.) It is assumed that you did not skim the words nor fail to understand the meaning of what was read." -- Hrm, didn't skim, but I probably zoned out somewhere in there. They should have a comprehension quiz afterwards..LOL - Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
I read 150 - 200 words per minute, but I think it will be more when I do this in my own language... - Aline
You read between 200 - 250 words per minute. Average reading level. (The average rate is between 200 - 250 words per minute.) It is assumed that you did not skim the words nor fail to understand the meaning of what was read. - matthew john ernisse
I agree, V. if I'm reading an author that I love or a particularly interesting passage, I'll re-read stuff and linger over the words just for the pleasure of it. - Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
150 - 200. I tend to read slower then I used to cause I like to soak in every word that I read. I like to become part of the book. - Mathew™ one of a kind
I find speed-reading through books to be kind of offensive. It usually means that the reader only cares for the story and not how the story is told. I'm a slow reader because I usually read for style rather than content; I read to enjoy the writer's art. - Akiva Moskovitz
Actually, there are studies that show almost all Japanese people speed read and skim. We pick up the first few words, skim the middle, and read the last but still comprehend context. It's related to our ambiguous oral patterns, I think. - Mona Nomura
The only thing that I skim are articles. Where all that is important is to pick up the facts. Books, I have to take time to get through those. - Mathew™ one of a kind
250-300 and made a concerted effort not to skim. I'm pretty sure I could consume a lot more - but that's not the point. There's time for skimming and time for reading... - George Smith
I wasn't skimming. =) I usually reread a book about a year later. I started reading on my phone as I was traveling all the time and for the last 4 years averaged about 80-100 books a year. Kinda wish I was a slower reader, then I would not have to fork as much cashish to ereader. - Jauder Ho
TOTALLY agree. Were you thrown into Kumon, too Jauder? - Mona Nomura from IM
350-400. I admit to reading more quickly than I normally would because I'm competitive. :) But I wasn't skimming or losing any comprehension. On lingering, I tend to read things I want to savor twice rather than read slowly. Second time aloud, often (okay, which means more slowly...), - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I read at about 450 words per minute on average. This varies depending on the content a LOT. If I am reading a newspaper, I can skim through an article at a MUCH faster pace. If I am reading a Marquez Novel, I read about one page in one hour cause I am taking time to absorb the beauty of each word. It depends on the following factors: a. Understanding of/Familiarity with the subject, b. Motive behind the reading (pleasure versus information), c. Author's way of writing. - Parth Awasthi
You read between 650 - 700 words per minute. The second time I finished before the minute was up, but I have to admit to skimming the first few paragraphs because I'd already read them and remembered them. - Nine
I read between 300 - 350 words per minute. That actually shocked me. I wish I could write essays for English that fast! - Michael Forian
Mona, no. I did not grow up over here. =) As far as I can remember, I've always been into books and reading so it just sort of happened over time. - Jauder Ho
I'd like to see someone read Proust at 1,000 words per minute and then claim that they've read Proust. - Akiva Moskovitz
Ten maybe - Josh Haley
Average. Totally average. Too much visualization to enjoy along the way. How could I rush? - Christopher Harley
first time through I got 400-450, but I was distracted a couple of times, and had to stop reading to scroll down the page. I inhale books that I like. Just like walking and thinking, I go faster when I'm concentrating. BUT I usually read every book I like 2-4 times (some I've read more). - InPerpetualMotion(Gina k)
between 400 - 450 words per minute for me as well. - Joe Pierce
I got 450 and I know that's slow for me - I can't read on screen as fast as I can read on paper. - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
i wish i could read so I knew what this said!!! - (jeff)isageek
good stuff during good time - Igor Poltavskiy
@jeffisageek - Time to go to The Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good. - ld
400-450wpm - Jesse Stay
250-300. I thought it would have been lower then that. I'm surprised. - David Cook
600-650 wpm. Very interesting text (never read JSK's inaugural address before), so I read many lines & paragraphs multiple times. 2nd try was slower at 500-550 wpm. The Professor's House, by Willa Cather (700-750 wpm) I feel like the more intensely the writing spurs me to think, the slower I read. Could be 5-15 min on one sentence. JFK (or his ghostwriters) wrote some nice stuff. - Mitchell Tsai
