I <3 Lisa. Also, I <3 CR-V. I'm either getting that or a Pilot when I trade in next year (though I'm super tempted to trade in right now...).

The CR-V has a ridiculous turning radius - easier to park than that rental Impala I had. The EX comes VERY nicely loaded.

Nice car. I seriously considered one, but couldn't quite manage it. And used ones are really hard to find within a 100 mile radius. (According to Cars.com, at least.)

Well, Cristo's comment is gone. So now mine & Amanda's comments just look silly... Also, I really preferred the Subaru Forester to the CR-V back when I was looking. Although, the ease of repairing a Honda might sway me in the future IF they give them AWD... Love my Forester's AWD!
- Lisa | #TeamMonique
Wow. Great minds think alike. I really wanted a Forester when my search began. But the only used one I could find was way overpriced and a test drive proved that it wasn't mechanically up to par. But they are really really popular, as in "#1 selling car in its class" popular (at least according to Subaru.) But still, I love my Soul. Not as big, no AWD, but it has everything I really...

Honda rocks, between BMW and Honda, I chose Honda for lower price and similar features with almost certainly better quality than german engineering.

Lisa - the AWD ones typically stocked are EX-Ls, which means you get leather and the premium nav system too. Fair price is about $29K.

Any time. :) I must be getting old; this time around I shopped safety before style. IMO I got both with this car. IHSA has this one second to the Forester, BTW - they're more or less neck and neck.

Incidentally, I learned the CR-V is built on the same frame as the Accord, which explains the smooth ride and the way it handles.
- teleken
from BuddyFeed
@teleken: does it come with the double wishbone suspension? it was eliminated after 2012 in accords, makes the ride reallly smooth tho
- پروتژه
I think Honda would have marketed it as such. From what I was able to find, it's MacPherson up front and "multi-link" in back. It does ride smoothly, though - I'm sure the factory 17" tires have a lot to do with that.

Now that I've seen how my trees and shrubs look in all their budding/blooming glory, I want to replicate the ones I like that seem to do well. Wondering if starting new ones from clippings is possible/practical.
When I moved in last year the drought had already begun and any buds, blossoms or blooms were already gone. So seeing their true 'ornamental' qualities has been eye opening. But at $40 - $60 each even for small shrub bushes and trees, I'm hoping to reproduce more from those I've got.
- Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
From what I've read on the web, starting 'softwood' shrub and fruit trees from clippings has a better likelihood of success than hardwoods, but even then grafting has a better prospect for success. This is getting too complicated for a duffer like me.
- Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
All of my years of propagating by cuttings, I've only been successful with softwood ones. Just make sure you cut at the right time for the plant and take a lot of cuttings to ensure success. You can do it!

Thanks Anika. Timing seems to be the key. Also thanks for using 'propagate', which is the word I was looking for but couldn't come up with when I needed it!

"May 23rd, is World Turtle Day. It is a day of celebrating the many unique and ancient species of turtles and tortoises around the world, and bringing awareness to their need for protection. Of the 207 species of turtle and tortoise alive today, 129 of them are listed by IUCN as vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered. That's an incredibly 62% of species! The species listed here are only a few of the many critically endangered turtle and tortoise species. They illustrate that though these species wear a suit of armor, they are incredible fragile and in need of protection by humans, from humans."

"Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who for the past forty-seven years has served as a weekend scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, angrily resigned from that position yesterday, effective immediately. Justice Scalia quit his post in a terse resignation letter that read, in part: “Some of the happiest memories of my adult life have been as a scoutmaster. Huddling under blankets around the campfire, and so forth. But now, all of that has been ruined. Ruined.” Shortly after sending the letter, Justice Scalia destroyed his scoutmaster uniform in the blazing fireplace of his Supreme Court office. Later, he went across the hall to share his decision with his close confidant on the Court, Justice Clarence Thomas, telling him, “There’s nowhere I feel safe anymore, Clarence. The military? The N.B.A.? Nowhere. I guess the only place I still feel safe is the Supreme Court. This is still a safe place, isn’t it?” Justice Thomas said nothing in reply."

"This is big: Universal Studios announced that it will be expanding the area around The Simpsons Ride at its Universal Orlando Resort in Florida into a full-on Springfield replica this Summer. This means aside from the rides, it will feature actual restaurants and foods straight from The Simpsons. Visitors will be able to get "Krusty-certified meat sandwich[es]" from a Krusty Burger, doughnuts from Lard Lad and beer at the Duff Brewery (which was brewed exclusively for the theme park). There will also be a Moe's Tavern. And in addition, a Cletus' Chicken Shack, The Frying Dutchman, Luigi's Pizza, and a Kwik-E-Mart (hopefully they will serve Skittlebrau)."

This study seems to suggest high IQ people are more likely to be distracted by small objects in the foreground (like, say, plastic bags wafting in the breeze or their rat dog jumping onto their lap) than they are to notice the massive 12 car pile-up a mile away that they're about to plow into at 80 mph.

So this image in my head of the Friar on a stool under a single spotlight, tuxedo tie undone, double shot in one hand and the mic in the other crooning "set 'em up Joe" pleases me probably more than it should.
And right at the end, he lights a cig, takes a long drag, and let's it out slow as the spotlight fades to black. Tell me you wouldn't pay to see it.

Well, consider that the iPhone went from the 1st generation to the 3G and the iPad went from 2 to "New", and that Mac OS has been stuck at version 10 for more than a decade, and it's clear that innumeracy is rampant in the tech sector :)

I am surprised it's not XBox Ultimate Edition, to be honest.
- Victor Ganata
It looks like it's about as big as the old ones, and so. many. ports. I wonder how much longer this antiquated form factor will hang on.
- Tinfoil 2.0
To get smaller, they'd probably need to invent a revolutionary, new cooling system, or figure out how to make GPUs that don't generate oven-like temperatures. Or try to force people to accept that you really don't need that many polygons.
- Victor Ganata
They said it'd be quiet, which further constrains cooling.
- Andrew C (✓)
from Android
They'd also probably have to do away with the optical drive, which would then probably reintroduce the issue of requiring an always-on Internet connection (which they've confirmed is not required with the XboxOne - it will require an Internet connection, but will still work if the net connection is out-of-commission for a while)
- DAMMIT, MR. NOODLE
Also sounds like they didn't bother with backwards compatibility for DVD based Xbox 360 games.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Yeah, Shevonne, I think you are right, but I also think that with the online stuff they can possibly translate ownership from old platform to new for any online titles that get rewritten. Not that they will do this, just that it's possible.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
I was thinking that it could be possible as well, but it seems due to the new hardware architecture...maybe the online games were created using the old one so it won't transfer? Someone know?
- Shevonne
I assume that the PS4 will have the same issue.
- Shevonne
They could always recompile the old games if a software emulation system isn't possible. But it's still noticeable how they didn't even mention it. Used to be backwards compatibility was a key feature (at least at console launches), or if it was left out, they at least had to address it.
- Andrew C (✓)
Yeah, I'm certain Microsoft (and Sony) would rather that developers port their games to the new platform.
- Victor Ganata
Yep, and it would still be possible for Microsoft to swing the licenses to the ports. Unfortunately, for the bean counters, there's little financial reason to do so. The number of sales that good will creates is much harder to count.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
IMHO cross compiling always has, and always will, suck big time
- Jeff (Team マクダジ )
It's got to be better than emulation, though, performance wise, even if the XBox One is way more powerful than the XBox 360.
- Victor Ganata
That depends on the game, but yes, in general that's true, Victor. Jeff, I believe that a lot of modern games are developed chiefly for one console (I think EA mostly develops first for PS3) and then ported to the Xbox. It seems to work well.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
should be interesting to watch now that both platforms will be x86 based, instead of totally different core architectures
- Jeff (Team マクダジ )
These days they're usually not ported after the fact, they're usually developed on the dev team's own abstraction layer (or sometimes licensed middleware) over PS3 and 360.
- Andrew C (✓)
Yeah, I know that Square Enix uses Crystal Tools to develop games for PS3, XBox 360, Windows, and the Wii.
- Victor Ganata
Yes, Sony is doing the same thing with PS4. Regarding MS transferring the licenses, if Windows Phone 7-> Windows Phone 8 is any indication, some games will, but others won't (I was able to download new version of Fruit Ninja when I switched phones, but had to buy new copies of my Angry Birds games)
- DAMMIT, MR. NOODLE

I think it's also sad just how much people are dredging up Geocities and Flickr as examples of how poorly Yahoo! handles its acquisitions. Yahoo! bought Geocities to basically kill it as Yahoo! Site Builder competition, and instead rolled them together for over a decade. Flickr, while it certainly stopped innovating, is still around and is still pretty well-regarded. ETA - Overall, I think Yahoo!'s major acquisitions have fared at least as well as many of Google's major acquisitions.

It reminds me more of the reaction you saw when LiveJournal was changing hands. You would have thought the apocalypse was nigh. (In this case, it seems to at least partially be related to the relative youth of many Tumblr users, many of whom haven't had their favorite service get bought out yet.)
- Jennifer Dittrich
And, of course, 10 minutes after I say Flickr hasn't seen any innovation, I find out they've unveiled a gorgeous new layout and are giving users 1TB of photo storage for free, now.
- DAMMIT, MR. NOODLE
GEE, do the established users get that or just the new ones? *grumble*
