“Studies have found that in general, the optimal temperature for sleep is quite cool, around 60 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. For some, temperatures that fall too far below or above this range can lead to restlessness.”

I can believe this. I much prefer a cool room, whatever the season.
- John (bird whisperer)
Definitely have to have a cool room to sleep properly. Few things worse than waking up in the middle of the night sweating (and no, not in a good way...)
- FFing Enigma
I don't want to be baking hot, but I can't sleep if I'm too cold. I get cold easily, and then my hands and feet go dead and white.
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
I was just talking about this to a friend who asked me to split the cost of a hotel room. I had to explain how I always keep the room cool, while bundled under the blankets.
- Anika
Side benefit of sleeping in a cold room: Wife is much much much cuddlier.
- Wirehead
For those who, as I did, wondered how cold you feel at 60-68° F : its's a temeprature between 16° Celsius and 20° Celsius.
- Zackatoustra
Yes! I love sleeping at about 65/66 degrees. Like LLL, I like to use the big comforter. I feel more comfortable and relaxed if I can breathe the cooler air.
- Katy S
Sent this story to my wife, who likes it a bit warmer for the kids.
- Hutch Carpenter
I thought it was just me. My sleep is much worse at 76-80+ temperatures. Normally I like 72-73 indoors, so 60-68 seems cool. Maybe it is better for sleep. :-)
- Mitchell Tsai
Hmmm,I normally keep my house around 68 but then I'm British and used to cold old drafty houses
- Sally Church
i think there is also cultural preferences/biases. when we lived in the UK we were amazed at how almost everyone turned their heat off completely at nite, thru-out the winter. when we came back, we began sleeping cooler, and love it.
- Thom Kennon
Good point Thom, I find American houses far too warm and stuffy in the winter.
- Sally Church
Sally, I'm with you: 68 is good, but 65 in the winter is AOK for me as well. I can wear socks and a snuggly shirt for less than I can heat the house to 70.
- FFing Enigma
So there is a reason I use my ceiling fan at full speed at night. Interesting.
- Ryan Massie
Ryan - indeed. love a good sleepybreeze. although your comment reminds me of how many hotel rooms and other rooms I go into where the ceiling fans are set incorrectly... I used to work in a lighting store so I notice such things. ;) [it's supposed to blow DOWN during the summer and UP during the winter]
- Anthony Citrano
I'm always frustrated by the fact that hotel rooms do not have ceiling fans. I have trouble sleeping without the breeze.
- Dennis O'Neil
I seem to be at the 68 degree end of the range, while my wife seems to be closer to the 60 degree end of the range for our optimal sleeping temperatures. :)
- In Search of Gender
LOL, silly Scott! In summer, the thermostat goes to 74 at night. In winter, I usually set it for about 67 during the day and 65-66 at night. Bundling up in blankets and comforter FTW!

You forgot to include Leif Parsons' name on the artwork for this webpage.
- Jon Craig
Jon, you joined FF just for that? The photo credit is proper on the linked NYT page. This is just a share. If sharing on the internet concerns you, I'd say you have your work cut out for you.
- Tinfoil 2.0
Yes. I already pimped this before. I just felt the need to do so again when I noticed that it still hasn't even left the 500s in viewership compared to the other show that aired on Monday which has already reached 2K views. Oy.
- Jonathan Hardesty
What's the alternative? Twitter directly to FF is flaky on and off. I'm not sure IFTTT is any simpler than AT, and I had problems with IFTTT occasionally truncating Tweets and leaving off (or butchering) links.
- Tinfoil 2.0
Eh, I'll probably just not have my twitter port into here anymore. Don't see the point.

I heard about this on the radio the other day. I would have beaten the shit out of him and then never spoken to him again. That is seriously fucked up.

So, I've been writing an animated webseries called Sausage School. At its most basic, it's a bunch of hot dog puns combined with dude-bro humor, with an endearing slant. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm pretty proud of what my animator friend and I have done with it.
I think the tighter script was what won me over primarily on this. There's still a season to look forward to, although I could see myself getting behind on this pretty quickly. And here I used to be much more into this sort of thing. :P
- Jonathan Hardesty
I didn't think to quite put it that way, Jonathan, but that's what I liked as well. The tighter script felt more like old Doctor Who, and there weren't /too/ many hand-wave moments. I still had some issues, but overall I liked it.
- Jennifer Dittrich
Tighter as in each piece of action and dialog seemed directly related to the plot, the setting, or its resolution. Dialog often serves two purposes, and the audience is expected to keep up on their own. Contrasted with how they handled the weeping angels last season, this was pretty well knitted together. (Aren't exposition speeches a hallmark of all Doctors?)

Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing coffee beans at you?

If you have that dream and describe it as a "dream about coffee," you have a major coffee problem.

Also, I'm not sure why you're surprised that UPS had some confusion as to where to deliver the package. Two street addresses tend to muck things up a bit.
- Jonathan Hardesty
It was actually two different street addresses in the same city and zip. UPS couldn't figure out which one to deliver to and the customer was somehow able to put 123-456-7890 as their phone number.
- Jonathan Hardesty
Hmm... alternate address for junk mail spam....

Medium is the swing voter of the prepared food service industry.
- Micah
I can't count how many times I've gone to McDonalds thinking the medium I'm getting is sized just like the medium at Arbys. I get their dinky medium and it's like "awww...."

Oh he's pretty great...but I go into something like Contagion thinking, "Maaaatttt DAY MEN is in this." And then I chuckle for an inappropriate amount of time.

This is funny, J. I must say that my litter situation has been helped immensely by investing in a LitterMaid. Self cleaning AND I get the added bonus of being entertained by watching my mesmerized/apprehensive cats. They are not accustomed to technology, you see...

I've always been curious about those. My cats would probably freak out or something.

Heh, yeah. I could get about $20-$30 each visit based on my weight class. I believe they give you a bit more if it's your first time and then decrease the amounts on return visits.

I think it's just for donating plasma, not regular blood donation. But I don't know why. I've considered doing it, but I haven't looked into where I can get paid.
- Heather
I just learned today that you can't donate plasma if you've ever been pregnant. So that and the fact that I don't weigh enough to do apheresis means that I can only give whole blood donations. Boo.
- Kelli H.
Never heard that past pregnancy being a problem, Kelli. I think they typically recommend a delay after pregnancy here.

Skyrim players, should I get Dawnguard before I start my first playthrough? Also, can I make a sweet ass assassin that uses stealth and magic effectively?
No need to wait for Dawnguard. And, yes. My character is essentially an assassin. 90% of the time, I snipe enemies from distance and I sneak through dungeons almost constantly. Just keep pumping points into Archery and Stealth.
- Akiva
and I assume Dawnguard is worth the money? I've heard good things, but not from people I trust!
- Joe "Funkasaurus" Pierce
If Jandy and I had time for games, we'd tell you to get it and that it was worth the money. Just reading up on what's included was enough to get me reaching for the pocket book.
- Jonathan Hardesty
I think I have just enough MS points left to buy Minecraft and Dawnguard if I want. I got a couple 20 dollar MS store credits an used them accordingly. Now I just wait until I have time. Or I make time.
- Joe "Funkasaurus" Pierce
I play Skyrim on PC and they haven't even officially announced Dawnguard for the PC yet.
- Akiva
Akiva, the trade off is you get mods, and a pc that doesn't suck. I have neither :/
- Joe "Funkasaurus" Pierce
Oh yeah. That's a trade-off I'm happy about. The mods I have installed make Skyrim look obscenely more beautiful than the vanilla version. It's crazy.
- Akiva
Why? Comic Con is a brand name, not a literal descriptive. This is highlighted by Richard Alf (Charirman in 1971) commenting that the con's early success was due to expanding past comic books to other fandoms (Society for Creative Anachrosim, Mythopeoic Society etc). So to claim that Comic Con has just been about comics until recently is a misrepresentation.
- Johnny
Oh, I'm aware there's always been more to the convention than just comics....but I find it rather silly to continue using such limiting branding on something was never meant to be "only comics." Chicago got this one perfect RIGHT out the gate with C2E2 (Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo). Going there, I know I'm going to get a variety of content, all nerdy, but not all comic. With...
