"Fred, re: "Shazam for Places", I like "WikiMe" for that type of application...its does Wikipedia searches on your location for popular categories...I've found it to be fairly useful...here's a description link with more info: http://iphone.iusethis.com/app..." - Michael Parekh

"A little paranoia is always good Fred, especially when it comes to age. But you've long been one of the youngest folks I know in the world of tech investing, VC or otherwise. Happy Birthday!" - Michael Parekh

"Good post Fred...my BB Curve app line-up is very similar...but some third-partys apps have made it onto my home screen...ones I use a lot: Google Reader, The New York Times, VZ Navigator (yes, I pay the $7/month, but have found the turn-by-turn service indispensable in the most unexpected places and times). The only build-in app that's in my top ten in addition to the ones you listed is Video camera, which I use more often than expected with a 6Gig memory card (feature/capability still missing even on my 3G iPhone). Am still searching for a couple of killer games on the Blackberry, especially Solitaire and other card games...have tried a few but none have made it to the home stack." - Michael Parekh

"Good book Fred. You may also want to look at Parag Khanna's "The Second World: Empires and Influence in the New Global Order", which comes to some different conclusions. Lots to disagree and agree with in both tomes, and great food for thought. Also, my new favorite TV news show on the weekends is Fareed Zakaria's GPS (Global Public Square) on Sundays. Great for arm-chair policy wonks everywhere." - Michael Parekh

FriendFeed Has Search, And Suddenly Looks Like A Destination Site
March 17 at 6:54 pm - Link
Some people have asked "why didn't FriendFeed have search when it launched?" I think it's brilliant the way you guys have come out early and then have been steadily adding features. Each time you add something like this, you get more press. :) - Chris White
Love the Search. Next desired FF feature: Ability to import Twitter friends and follow them all via FF. - Michael Parekh
Search is a huge feature, bravo. Speaking of FF as destination, anyone planning a Firefox, delicious-style Add On that allows me to share something without coming back here? - Jake Kuramoto
Here it is Jake: http://friendfeed.com/share/bo.... We keep our features mysteriously hidden :) - Paul Buchheit
Excellent, I like magically appearing features. Now, about those bacon cookies . . . - Jake Kuramoto
For some reason Firefox doesn't install the bookmarklet feature for me. Can't drop it on a toolbar? Any suggestions? - Alexander van Elsas
Our wording is imperfect. don't drag it on to a (Google, Alexa, Yahoo, et.c) toolbar. Drag it to your bookmark bar, if you have the bookmark bar displayed. Otherwise bookmark and invoke it via menubar. - Kevin Fox
Perfect! - Kemal Yaylali
MAYBE HAVE SEARCH IS HARD WORK - qian
This is seriously great thing! Thanks for adding search to FriendFeed as it makes this service much more usable and allows us finally search all those Twitter messages. ;) - Daniel Schildt
Why isnt the share bookmark available on the settings page? - Shakeel Mahate

What a legacy you left at Google! And the principle for FriendFeed is? - Anne Bouey
Someone's still scribbling that phrase on Friendfeed whiteboards Anne. http://www.flickr.com/photos/p... - Philipp Lenssen
In the spirit of celebrating the 'Don't Be Evil' phenome I propose the following 'mantra port' to this platform. "Godspeed Friendfeed" - Johnny R
Paul: I always parsed "don't be evil" as "don't piss off the customers or the users." :-) - Robert Scoble
Such impact out of 3 such simple words. Incredible. And so much better than the corporate versions. - Alexander van Elsas
Is Google sharing your information with US govt? http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/s... I personally think they might be, im not a google insider but according to www.googlewatch.com they have spooks working for them - Kyle Weller
Googlewatch is not a credible source. - Paul Buchheit
It's googlewatch.org not .com. - Adewale Oshineye
Google don't have to share with US govt, govt *just use them*... 95% classified info located/searchable in publicly available places - silpol

Nice shout-out there, Mathew and Allen. - Louis Gray
I think FriendFeed is going to shake this up more than many bloggers realize. - Robert Scoble
Thanks, Louis -- and for you as well :-) - mathew ingram
This is a really interesting rant coming from Mike Arrington. I wouldn't have expected it at all. - Corvida
If it does happen and they take down and replace cnet, the same thing could then happen to them by a new crop of upcoming bloggers. - Devin Anderson
I just wrote a blog about the changes I'm seeing. Great post Mike. - Robert Scoble
I'd like to see a band of bloggers take down Cnet. Just as long as that band doesn't become like Cnet (or mainstream media) in the process. - Jason Kaneshiro
@Robert, I read somewhere that FriendFeed is overhyped. - Louis Gray
Louis: it's way overhyped!!! :-) - Robert Scoble
And the pigs that overthrew the owners of the farm, eventually grew to be undistinguishable from the owners. - Bill Bittner
Would like to be able to "like" comments as well. Though I'm putting a big fat Love on Bill Bittner's. - Carla Thompson
I like this dream team concept. Like BlogNation but this time with some ethics. - Mike Doeff
Carla: Thanks! - Bill Bittner
d Mike Doeff what do you fucking know. Arrington published a stolen termsheet to kill the project/competitor. We raised the money but I stopped it because of idiots like you. Get a life. What have you ever done? - sam sethi via Alert Thingy

yes, definitely - Devin Anderson
I think $100 is a very fair price for unlimited music. Most subscription music services - e.g. Rhapsody - charge about $12 per month and sometimes there is an additional fee added for accessing the music on portable devices. Most people will hang on to their iPod for at least a year so that's cheaper than a year's worth of Rhapsody. - Mike Doeff
yes (given that that is about 3 ponds :-) - Alex Gawley
Sure, but what happens when my iPod dies or when I get a new model, or when I want to get a Zune (OK, not likely)? - Rubin Sfadj
@Rubin then you pay again, or maybe they allow a transfer for 1/2 the cost or something. It's like TiVo...they did lifetime subscriptions and on occasion allow people to transfer them to newer TiVo units for a cost - Benjamin Golub
@Benjamin Golub: I see... but how would that play with the iTunes authorization system? - Rubin Sfadj
no ways - Sarah Perez
Nope. Too much free music elsewhere. - Wes Hoogenboom
yeppers, 99 cents a pop has gotten a little old. lots more music I'd like to have and I'm willing to pay for the privilege. - Mike Paul
Not the kid. I rarely buy music. I can buy 5 tracks and I'm good for 6 months. It would be a total waste of money for me. - Bwana McCall
Yes, I would buy a +$100 iPod/iPhone with all you can eat music, but I would also still buy music that I wanted to keep. But it would keep me from wasting money on bad music (Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga and Bitchin' come to mind...) - Stephen Foskett
Yes, me too. If it guaranteed "lifetime", I'd pay 200 extra, and yes, that's more than I'll spend in the next few years on albums. Good idea. - Peter
I'd pay for it. So easier than torrents. - Tim Cooper
heck yes. - carson mehl
Clearly yes. - Neil Vidyarthi
hundred dollar flat fee for unlimited music? That's like 5-6 cds. of course! - engtech
yes, as long as they didn't "expire" - tagami
I'm in. - Michael Parekh

"Fred, the Facebook Web App on the iPhone is already a way to do "social graph" stuff on the iPhone today. Presumably other social networks like MySpace, etc., will have iPhone version of their apps out soon with the SDK. The silver lining in the app store from my perspective is that Apple will distribute third party apps for free. There's a possibility that a lot of third party developers will make free versions of their mainstream applications available on the iPhone, to encourage purchases for PC/Macs, game consoles, etc." - Michael Parekh
