"A student left a camera on a picturesque mountaintop in Snowdonia in an experiment into human trust. Paul Bellis Jones, 24, left a note with the camera near the summit of Mount Tryfan, instructing walkers to take a picture then leave it for the next person. He was keen to know if the camera would be returned to his home in Glan Conwy, near Llandudno, as per his instructions, of if it would be stolen instead."

"Thankfully for Mr Jones, over 30 ramblers took photographs of themselves at the beauty spot, which overlooks two large rocks near the summit. When the film ran out four days later, the camera was personally returned to his house by a National Park warden. The student, who left the camera and accompanying note in a sealed bag, launched the experiment in mid-May. He said: 'I was speaking...

Good thing it was in the UK. In the US, it's much more likely the camera would have been filched.

"The brewer said Wednesday it increased production of its craft beers by 24 percent in the first half of 2009. By year's end, it expects to make more than 100,000 barrels, more than a 20 percent increase over 2008."

The hardest part so far about our first day of virtual school? Sharing my computer and waiting for my 5yo to hunt and peck the words. I will add touch typing to our curriculum.

Yea, you know =P in general, i don't care for the taste of most beer but i don't hate it like i hate the taste of pickles. Beer is just one of those things i won't seek-out but i won't actively avoid either.

I'm going camping with my 2.5yr old & 6mo old next week, all week. What will I need that I haven't thought of yet? (Berkeley Family Camp, http://berkeleycamps.com) Meals & lodging in tent-cabins are provided...
For perhaps both kids a portable high chair could come in really handy. We have one that we put on a folding chair and have used it for all the kids.

A ,22 and requisite ammunition to protect yourself when things go feudal. Berkeley Family Camp has a dark side, after all. .... Just kidding. Bring their comfort items from home - like their favorite blanket - and any rough spots will be easy to smooth over.

Enough cloths to keep them warm and dry.

You'll probably need more towels than you might have at first expected. Sneak a few extra into the car to keep them dry and warm until you need 'em.

"Yes, that is an array of four child safety seats in the back of a car. And yes, like most things awesome, it’s not available in the North America… yet. Multimac is a 3- or 4-seat child safety solution by Automotive Macliver Ltd, based in the UK. It fits most any car that has a bank of 3 adult seats. The seats are available in 3 widths to make this accommodation possible."http://www.thingamababy.com/baby...

For anyone with more than 3 kids and not wanting to have to get a bigger car - this could be than answer - wish they had this in the US.

Looks interesting, but would wonder about it expiring before you could get your money's worth.

I've always wondered why the car manufacturers don't offer a factory-spec child seat that connects directly to the car (i.e. remove existing seats, install child seats). I thought someone like Volvo would easily be able to sell a $500 seat with a $40,000 car. Anyway, the picture above looks as close to "factory" as I've ever seen.

Fwd: My recipe for Watermelon Martinis for a small crowd: 1 quart fresh chilled and strained watermelon juice, (no pulp.) Add 1 cup vodka ( I use lemon infused) and 1/3 cup of melon liquor. Blend in a blender. Serve over ice. Garnish with watermelon wedges and lime sprigs. Enjoy! (via http://friendfeed.com/foods...)
"In a study of 100 of pregnant women in the Netherlands, researchers say they found evidence that fetuses have short-term memory of sounds by the 30th week of pregnancy, and develop a long-term memory of sound after that. The researchers documented the memory by watching fetal movements with ultrasound while they played "vibroacoustic" sound to the growing baby. Five of the fetuses in the study did not move in reaction to the sound and were eliminated from the study."

I'm so proud of my daughter... she has sucked her finger since she was an infant. When she turned 3 she told me she would quit sucking her finger when she turned 4. Three days ago (not quite 4), she told me she was ready. Since then, she only did it a couple of times and stopped herself. Besides that, she's gone cold turkey and done so well.
I don't know if it will last, but I really am proud of her. I think she might still do it while she sleeps, but I'm not sure. Either way, it's a huge step!

yay Jen's daughter! My son told me he would stop sucking his thumb when he was four also (I prompted him a bit) but now that he is four he is waffling. He wanted to change it to five. We just talked about it today and I suggested he stop doing it during the day (which he rarely does anyways, but will if tired or relaxing or watching a video). He was pretty cool with that. Whenever I...

I don't think you need to worry too much about his teeth at this point, but I could be wrong. I was surprised Anna managed it in part because she had increased her daytime sucking tenfold over the last 6 months. Her quick success has been very unexpected for me. She hasn't gone it since I posted this.

I sucked my thumb until 6 or 7, so the apple does not fall far from the tree. My parents had to put some weird nail polish type yucky stuff on it to get me to stop.

19 Weeks Today. I can feel kicks and punches and I have started talking to the baby. And *very* soon I won't be calling it "baby"! =D - http://www.babycenter.com/slidesh...
"Your baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you. Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid."

"When it comes to beer, there's no lack of selection—despite Bud and Coors—for most beer-selling stores in the U.S. About 8.6 million barrels of craft beer were sold in 2008, and the number of artisanal beer suppliers in the U.S. is growing. With all this choice, you'd think fewer people would be brewing at home, right? Not exactly. Instead, the opposite seems to be true—estimates show that home brewing is on the rise in the U.S. And with good reason. DIY home brewing (after you get the equipment) is cheap. More than that, brewing your own is more satisfying than paying for another round. Next time you crack open a cold one—strained, heated and brewed by your own hand— you'll understand. In this story, we walk through the steps to make a Belgian white ale. Ingredients and steps vary for different kinds of beer, but the basics are all here. Cheers."
