in yspilanti mi there is a water tower that was built in the late 1890s, listed as a state historical site, recently someone put a geocache package on the ground next to water tower, police and bomb squad were called due to a supscious package. wonder how many more examples of this are out there? - Jonathan Jesse

My problem is that I hold grudges. So when someone I'm mad at - even it was from 1987 - friends me I wind up feeling angry for three or four days. I would like it if Facebook added to the "ignore friend request" with a "rebuke requester" function, so I could let off steam. As is, Facebook invitations leave me feeling pissy about 10 days per month. - Rob Sterling

pretty useful list... - Nathan Chase
If this list is useful, then chrome has some serious usability problems. Just to be clear... i'm not knocking the article itself or lifehacker in general... I just think that in 2008, the "power user" features of a web browser shouldn't be navigating back and forth, zooming, and using command line switches. This guide should have been called, "The normal users guide to making a pre-release browser *almost* match the basic functionality that every other browser has been delivering for 2 years now". - Chris "Iceman" Hollander
I think the Idea of Google competing with MSIE is really great, but every time I hear about "new" Chrome features I'm just like, meh. I really hope Chrome will take a big chunk out of IE's market share, mainly the users who don't know about Firefox. I can't imagine many Firefox/Safari/Opera users switching to Chrome. - David Hulbert
Most people are missing the point, this Chrome play is about the Browser PLUS JavaScript tech stack, and whether Google can make JS fast enough to preempt Adobe Air/Flash and MSFT Silverlight going forward. Even MSFT's own engineers say so... http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001... Google can always donate the Chrome innovations back into the open-source efforts like Firefox. - Alex Schleber
+1 Alex. I wouldn't bet that, even with Google's cred among the digerati, javascript will be the platform of choice for developers building RIAs. - Sprague D

Did she invoke God's Will to get a pipeline completed? Did I hear that right? - AJ Kohn
AJ: yes, you heard that right. The debates are sure going to be interesting. - Robert Scoble
@Robert: *sigh* You know, I worked at a Christian High School for two years and they *never* threw around God's Will like this. You asked for his intervention to help those in need, for safety, for health, for peace. I'm trying to stay focused on issues but this is ... depressing IMO. - AJ Kohn
She invoked Gods will to get a pipeline, and she made it clear that our troops in the Middle East are on a mission from God. That is my definition of "extremism." - Dan Ciruli
Caleb: "The founder of the Alaska Independence Party -- a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years -- once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag."" - Sean McBride
We're the richest state in the union *cough*(in-terms-of-natural-resources)*cough* !!! - Shawn Farner
Apparently it's God's plan for us to be in Iraq also. - Jeff P. Henderson
We know what's coming next: it will be God's will to go to war against Iran and Russia, and to imprison any Americans who oppose the policy. Look at how the emerging neocon/Christian Zionist police state just roughed up Amy Goodman at the Republican convention. - Sean McBride
Sarah, God just called and requested that you quit it with the name dropping. - Steve Isaacs
@AJ - ditto...I was raised up to believe that God's intervention be asked for in terms of others needs, safety, health or peace. Was not aware that pipelines or waging wars were the things one would ask their god for. - JA Castillo
@Dan: Maybe she's just a Blues Brothers fan (re: mission from God, etc.) - Kirk Kittell
It bothers me when either Lefties or Righties equate God's will with their domestic agenda. All of you who are shocked by this video need to remember though, that just last week, in the DNC's first night benediction Donald Miller did the exact same thing, namely asking for God to provide the unity required to provide more jobs for prospering Americans http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... - Jim Ierley
I'd be remiss if I did not also say that American Christianity has a particular problem with spreading a false, new message called the "prosperity gospel" that teaches that God wants me to be wealthy, healthy, and happy. The most popular purveyor right now is Joel Osteen, author of Your Best Life Now. Instead, Jesus calls you to pick up your cross [an instrument of pain and death] and follow him, and a necessary part of that may very well be suffering. - Jim Ierley
At least Miller didn't invoke God to justify the invasion and occupation of a foreign nation, a policy which has led to hundreds of thousands of Iraqi deaths, casualties and refugees (and which has been a strategic, financial and moral disaster for the United States). - Sean McBride
The shock for me was how many times she said "Alaska." Its weird. - ishak via twhirl
@Jim: Perhaps it was during the dead spot? I'm trying to be unbiased here. I am. But I heard help provide a living wage with the very near context being to help the poor and disadvantaged. - AJ Kohn

Bush proclaimed that God told him to invade Afghanistan and Iraq - "President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, "George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan." And I did, and then God would tell me, "George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq …" And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, "Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East." And by God I'm gonna do it.'" http://tinyurl.com/b5tkd - Shout out 2Jody
All we need is another fruitcake leader with close ties to God. - Shout out 2Jody
God also told Hitler to invade Russia -- that worked out really well for the Germans. When a politician starts invoking God to justify military ventures, run for your life -- they are quite likely insane. - Sean McBride
+1 Sean - cjmart
Hey Sean, I have problems with Palin's words there too, because they will be understood to mean that the war decision and occupation have God's endorsement. Obviously there's a debate on whether the war was just, but let's not forget that the American military overwhelming act in a way that risks their own lives to do good for us/Iraq as they fight Islamic terrorists. That's righteous work, but they should be spoken of as soldiers for America's interests, not soldiers for God's interests. - Jim Ierley
Regarding the frequent mentions of Alaska: Sarah Palin is a messianic Alaskan nationalist. I only half-kid -- look at her ties to the Alaskan Independence Party, whose leader has expressed hatred towards the United States and reviled the American flag. So far the mainstream media have maintained a stony silence about this and several other controversial issues about Palin. - Sean McBride
I don't see how fighting in Iraq has anything to do with America's interests unless we're just going to say the soldiers are over there fighting to secure oil for us... - Tad - pals w/Terrorists
Jim and Tad: the Iraq War was overwhelmingly in conflict with the American interest. We have dumped trillions of dollars down the drain in Iraq with the result of greatly increasing the power of Iran and Muslim fundamentalists in the region and reducing our access to Iraqi oil (China was just handed the first big Iraqi oil contract). John McCain, Sarah Palin and the Republican Party in general long ago lost the ability to perform rational calculations of the American interest on the grand chessboard of global politics. They are emotional ranters, not thinkers or strategists, who believe that God is whispering into their ear. - Sean McBride
america needs more chaos before people will change, maybe that is her job - Gregory Lent
AJ: Government "providing" (mandating) wages or taxation for single-payer health care are misguided ways of trying to arrive at general prosperity, yet you would assume from Miller's framing of the issues that God has endorsed the DNC plan and will supply the unity to accomplish the task because the DNC's means are God's. - Jim Ierley

That supposed Bush quote isn't credible. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wor... - Jim Ierley
For whatever it's worth, I'd never heard of this woman until Dad asked me to vet her yesterday. - TweetJeebus
The Bush quote is highly credible because he has made many other similar statements that are on the public record. There can be little doubt that he is Christian fundamentalist (and, more specifically, a Christian Zionist, which is a branch of Christian fundamentalism.) - Sean McBride
Sean, if you believe the war is not in our interest, I have no problem with you saying it. People should be able to talk policy vigorously. I do have a problem with the ridiculous ad-hominem portrayal of conservatives or Christians as dummies who sit around waiting for transcendental messages for policy decisions. It’s a slander and there’s no risk of the US becoming anything even close to a theocracy. - Jim Ierley
It isn't credible because a Bush White House spokesman says it isn't? If anything, this convinces me it was quite true. - Shout out 2Jody
@Jim: Are we watching the same clip? I mean, who's assuming? He asks for us to find ways to solve the problems of healthcare and poverty. That they had not done so, and that it would be difficult to do so, which is why he asked for God's help. I did not hear him invoke God's will for any specific plan. Find me where he asks for God's will to pass the Obama healthcare plan and I'll gladly say that is wrong. I won't say it's wrong to ask God to help us solve the issues of health and poverty that plague us. - AJ Kohn
Jim -- since Bush and McCain have been able to offer no *rational* rationale for a war that is clearly a multi-trillion disaster, one has to assume, reasonably, that they are not very smart and are being driven by a primitive ideological agenda that has nothing to do with intelligent strategic calculations of the American interest. In Bush's case, we know that Christian fundamentalism is the key. - Sean McBride
@Jim: Why isn't the quote credible? Because the White House says it isn't? I'm not saying it *is* credible - it's a he said she said scenario. But it's certainly up for grabs given this administration's track record. - AJ Kohn
Why would you take a piece of trans-cultural heresay as a reliable quote when there's no remotely similar words from Bush in any other source? You don't think there's potential for something to be misunderstood? If there's a real quote out there, I'd like to see it. - Jim Ierley
I'm Jewish and I don't see the point of this video. Is this supposed to make me NOT want to vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin? This video just makes McCain/Palin even more attractive. I don't ssee any of the ranting and raving we saw at the OTHER candidates church. I bet the Trinity Church would NEVER want video of their candidate speaking from their pulpit to hit the interwebs. It would probably destroy his momentum entirely. I'm just thank G-d McCain was gifted with the sense to choose Sarah Palin for his V.P. nomination. - pitlord via twhirl
Have you actually read the account which is based on meeting minutes. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/p... - AJ Kohn
AJ, do you believe Miller is referring to private individuals and organizations to meet those needs? I don't. He's giving the prayer in a context of a party's national convention, one that has a specific platform. He's talking about government solutions and I would figure everyone present would acknowledge that. I actually wish that we wouldn't have prayers at these things because there's so much potential for people to equate God's interests with their own, among other reasons. - Jim Ierley
@pitlord: Just two weeks ago, when Palin’s church (with Palin in attendance), the Wasilla Bible Church, gave its pulpit over to a figure viewed with deep hostility by many Jewish organizations: David Brickner, the executive director of Jews for Jesus. Brickner also described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God's "judgment of unbelief" of Jews who haven't embraced Christianity. - AJ Kohn
@pitlord: (ranting and raving from her church) has also preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell; questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven; charged that the 9/11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq were part of a war "contending for your faith;" and said that Jesus "operated from that position of war mode." - AJ Kohn
@Jim: I can agree that the context of the platform could certainly be inferred. Though I would argue that the current platform has stressed that government can't solve all the ails. That personal responsibility must be re-established. "Ours is a promise that says government cannot solve all our problems, but what it should do is that which we cannot do for ourselves - protect us from harm and provide every child a decent education; keep our water clean and our toys safe; invest in new schools and new roads and new science and technology. - AJ Kohn
@Jim: I would be fine with no prayer at all actually. Your relationship to God is a personal thing IMO and not something that should be inserted into this process. Your values can be informed by this relationship, meaning you could be a pacificist because of your particular relationship with God. - AJ Kohn
If we removed God and religion from all of these politicians statements, we would then be evaluating them on the merits of their position on issues. Instead we are endlessly distracted by religious arguments and are completely ignoring the issues that we all face together, regardless of religion or political affiliation. Why must religion be brought into the political arena? - Jeff P. Henderson
At 2:42 does she say she wants the audience to go out there "hurtin' people" or "herdin' people"? And should it matter, since I feel uneasy about either? - Alexei Tolkachev
President Bush made his case for war in a secular fashion and it was accepted by the American people and our allies on the basis of secular rationale alone. Why then would anyone obsess about some secret malevolent Christianist mindset that is the "key"? Do you really think Christian fundamentalists can manipulate world powers with such ease? Why not just say, "Bush is wrong" and leave it at that? - Jim Ierley
Bush is wrong. - AJ Kohn
Ha!! Now we're getting somewhere AJ! - Jim Ierley
God is a mining company and Jesus a miner! - Duncan Riley
Just did a review of the tape and the transcript at HuffPo http://www.huffingtonpost.com/... and concerning the war, it's clear that she was asking people to pray *that* the national leaders would be sending the soldiers out on a task from God, meaning that it was righteous. - Jim Ierley

There is a lot to love about Mint, but the biggest problem I have is they constantly miscategorize where I'm spending - and then email to tell me things like I've gone over budget in the gas category (but I don't have a car). - nancy king
@nancy: When you re-categorize things does it not remember that and sort of try and start categorizing them right? (I don't know, I've only re-categorized a few things) - Brandon Titus
You can tell it to always do what you just told it, or do a one-time thing. - Jordan Hofker
Mint works... If you're in US, but for non americans is totally useless. I'm not saying it show support every bank in the world, but there should be some kind of manual import of bank statements... - João Almeida
Mint works for some (basic) things. The auto categorize feature is decent. But the budget tool, which should be its lifeblood, stinks. It constantly recalculates your budgeted amounts, it changes them from what you want them to be to what your average spending in that area is. Useless. Plus it's one measly budget view on the main page can't do basic addition when you have parent/child categories up. It's almost great, but is at best as good as my bank's tool. - Chris Stevenson
mint is the first place where i've been able to get a good idea of my net worth in a painless way. i'm not the type to obsess with quicken so as a quick and dirty tool it works. budgets are broken, the categories aren't reliable, and some of the shopping comparisons they try to make (by state/category) aren't useful. i would love it if i could trigger bill pay with it and see the amounts of cc statements. - rob zand
