Alex Kane reviews Nathan Lean's new book, The Islamophobia Industry: How the Right Manufactures Fear of Muslims. The book, a compact and punchy look at this hate industry, points to how it stretches across continents and has sowed hatred of Muslims into the fabric of Western society.
It looks like the UK falls asleep on the job at the UN. Luckily there is Canada, which under Harper has come to be a strong ally of the US and Israel. Falk is clearly a self-hater and can kiss good bye any chance of ever commenting on Mondoweiss. The best bit is in the [...] The post Why is the UK Government Silent? appeared first on deLiberation.
The Washington Post reports the largely hidden counter-terrorism policies of the Obama administration, without oversight, legal checks or balances and media scrutiny. There’s a word for this and it ain’t democracy. Part one: Over the past two years, the Obama administration has been secretly developing a new blueprint for pursuing terrorists, a next-generation targeting list [...]
"Israel’s Vice Premier Moshe Yaalon said Friday in a radio interview that mixed messages from foreign powers, including the US, were responsible for Iran not fearing a real military threat. Iran believes it can carry on developing a nuclear bomb without interference. He was answering US military Chief Gen. Martin Dempsey who spoke out against an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear program saying he "doesn’t want to be complicit" if Israel chooses to do it."

Is Moshe Yaalon exceptionally stupid? Obviously the American government has no intention of going to war against Iran and is hardly going to pretend that it intends to do so.

Quibble -- Yes, he is exceptionally stupid but I would not use the singular pronoun. There are multiples of "exceptionally stupid" Yaalons running around Israel and Washington.

The US Department of Justice has refused to publicly release a memo that outlines why an Israeli entity caught spying on the U.S. would not be investigated further. Documentation of Israeli nuclear spying 20 years ago In 1992 the FBI discovered that the Weizmann Institute of Science of Rehovot in Israel penetrated secure U.S. computer systems at the Yuma Proving Ground with the help of a U.S. computer science student. The FBI investigation further documented evidence that Weizmann was engaged in clandestine nuclear weapons research supported by its U.S. fundraising arm, the "American Committee for the Weizmann Institute." Yet on May 18, 1993 the Justice Department Office of Intelligence Policy and Review ordered the Assistant FBI director to terminate their Weizmann Institute counterintelligence investigation. Department of Justice refuses to release the memo IRmep fought for public release of the Justice Department termination order via a Mandatory Declassification Review. Three days...
Isn’t this what I’m always telling you. Even the supposedly liberal mainstream Jewish groups fear offending the lobby. Here is the latest from the indispensable JTA and its crack reporter Ron Kampeas. The National Jewish Democratic Council, citing peace among Jewish groups, has taken down a petition calling on Republicans not to accept money from Sheldon Adelson…. [...]
It simply does not make sense that in the course of months-long rehabilitation Sen. Mark Kirk would be focusing on the money Americans could save by slashing the funds paid out to UNRWA. A quick review of some of Kirk's key DC staff reveals that this bill shouldn't come as much of a surprise.
This is an important post because it begs the question of Goldberg's military rank. What is he doing selling himself as a Lieutenant in the Navy Reserve in addition to the chief of staff political office (Kirk).

The terrific historian, Rick Perlstein, has the best review I’ve seen on the Peter Beinart book. As he notes, you won’t find too many good reviews of Beinart’s book because people are scared shitless at the very though of praising a book that tears apart the lobby. The best part of Perlstein’s review is that he is [...]
