I like having each service as an individual contact. Much easier. Can we see the same for Pownce?

Well, IMified has taken bot to a next level.. I even created a customized option to check my google calendar appointments for today (a quick schedule for today) by interacting with bot! Not sure, if they have one for Pownce..

One year later. Just bumping this because it's the one year anniversary of the only item on FriendFeed to get more than 400 likes. (452 at the moment)

"In some ways this is slightly more elegant than the XMPP solution as neither side has to maintain a dedicated long-running process. ... There are a number of people on inexpensive service providers who have at best web scripting hosting and not much else

KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid). XMPP scares me.

"Quantum field theory is from overseas, but she doesn't really have an accent. You fall deeply in love, but she treats you horribly. You are pretty sure she's fooling around with half of your friends, but you don't care. You know it will end badly."

The thing that struck me most was the commitment to openness throughout. The CC licensing is the clincher: if you're going to federate, you need to understand your rights to the content you're distributing. Identi.ca isn't just a technical commitment to sharing and openness, it's a legal and moral one too.

it just needs a couple of features like replies etc. and it's in business

I think they're going to run into trouble by forcing all updates under a Creative Commons license. Don't get me wrong - I like Creative Commons. I use Creative Commons. But I've already had someone I know refuse to use identi.ca because he doesn't want to be under Creative Commons. And what about when someone shares something that's copyrighted, and they don't have the right to reshare under CC?
- Josh Bancroft
Josh, but how is that fixed by Twitter right now? There'll always be license dissenters and abusers. Not knowing the licensing doesn't make it any better.

And look at the rights Twitter is reserving for itself. If the users understood this, oy would they be mad.
- Dave Winer
What rights? Not allowing unlimited access to their API?

with respect to the CC license and identi.ca: If you've got 140 characters to share that you can't or won't have repeated, referred to, or rephrased—then I'd guess you're not interested in having a conversation, and there are places better suited to share (or not) those 140 characters.

What parts of the Twitter TOS do you find onerous? They look pretty good to me: "We claim no intellectual property rights over the material you provide to the Twitter service. Your profile and materials uploaded remain yours." and "We encourage users to contribute their creations to the public domain or consider progressive licensing terms." And like I said, I love and use and support CC, but forcing everything on a whole network into a CC license doesn't seem to be the right use.
