Yep, did that too, though I think it's only needed if accessing using the instance name. Should be ok without it when using ip,port

Sheesh, finally got it working.. Reset the accounts and passwords, restarted SQL Server Express yet again, and can now connect remotely.

Wonder if I need to reboot the box for changes to take effect... Only been restarting the SQL Server. Not too keen on doing that though.

Yep, TCP/IP is enabled in SQL Server Configuration Manager, alon with Shared Memory and Named Pipes...

Yep, I can connect to it fine via SSMSE over RDP. Using the same creds remotely using IP,port syntax gives me a login failed err
