What Keynes Really Said - HBR Editors' Blog - HarvardBusiness.org - http://ow.ly/lw3
His formula suggests that the economy is not self-regulating--and that in periods of deflation it could go into a death spiral: Decreases in corporate earnings would lead to layoffs which would lead to decreases in demand, fueling further decreases in corporate earnings, and so on. In other words, the economy of 2008-09. - Murali

IS/LM model - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...
The IS/LM model is a macroeconomic tool that demonstrates the relationship between interest rates and real output in the goods and services market and the money market. The intersection of the IS and LM curves is the "General Equilibrium" where there is simultaneous equilibrium in all the markets of the economy[1]. IS/LM stands for Investment Saving / Liquidity preference Money supply. - Murali

Financial Crisis for Beginners « The Baseline Scenario - http://baselinescenario.com/financi...
We believe that everyone should be able to understand how the financial crisis came about, what it means for all of us, and what our options are for getting out of it. Unfortunately, the vast majority of all writing about the crisis - including this blog - assumes some familiarity with the world of mortgage-backed securities, collateralized debt obligations, credit default swaps, and so on. You’ve probably heard dozens of journalists use these terms without explaining what they mean. If you’re confused, this page is for you - Murali

Twitter Client War: Twhirl vs. TweetDeck - http://scobleizer.com/2009...
i still like tweetdeck better :) - Rodney Rumford
I can't stand tweetdeck :) - Nick
I'm sure Twhirl is fabulous and I really appreciate @Loic and his engaging method of development, but I just can't beat TweetDeck's multi-column layout. It's ideal for a 30" cinema display but equally at home running full screen on MBPro - Conor Ogle
TweetDeck uses too much memory for my computer, so I use Twhirl - Qbat
Neither, I still prefer Twitterific on a Mac. If I had to decide between these both: probably Twhirl, even though I hate their scrolling implementation. - Holger Eilhard
I used twhirl all the time till I started using TweetDeck a week ago but now I'm back on twhirl - Dennis R. from twhirl
I like them both but prefer tweetdeck for single account mgmt. Twirl works well for multiple account mgmt - Tim FitzGerald
I go back and forth between the two. TweetDeck: love the multi-column group management, but hate the memory usage and inability to sync group lists across machines. Twhirl: I like the FriendFeed and Seesmic integration, but I miss the group list management offered by TweetDeck. To TweetDeck's credit, they are soliciting input on what issues to tackle next; group sync and memory issues were on the list. - Brian Shoemaker
I prefer the Tweetdeck interface but am using Twhirl because I need to manage multiple accounts. - Herb Hernandez
I'm shopping around for a second monitor just for twhirl. - KyleHase from twhirl
tweetdeck seems good, haven't invested enough time reallly to know, but initial impressions were good. Twhirl has good features, but UI is terrible. - Sam from twhirl
At home, Tweetdeck. What about when mobile though? I used tweetdeck on a UMPC at MBC09 (saves my mobile phone for other duties!) and will have a bunch of mobile PC devices at SXSW to do the same (i'm testing them) Seems to me that Tweetdeck + powerful browser on the go would be perfect for microbloggers. - Steve 'Chippy' Paine
I prefer to use clients that extend beyond twitter.. Preferably Friendfeed and Facebook as well. feedalizr is good. Any other alternatives? - Abhishek Kumar from feedalizr
Twhirl feels clunky and it's UI is too complex. Twitterific is perfect for day to day personal use, but Tweetdeck is great for corp accounts. - Giovanni Ghignone
I use TweetDeck primarily, but it needs Twhirl's lookup feature in the worst way. That one feature keeps me going back and forth. Oh yeah, and multiple accounts. Love Twhirl for that. - Gimme Blu Frog!
neither of them, They just don't feel right to me. I developed my own which has what I need. - Darren Stuart
I use Twhirl more, just got Tweetdeck a day ago, like the layout for management. I love Spaz though, sorry! - Jay Cameron
I started as a big Twhirl fan, til the day it wasn't working. I desperately seek for an option and tried TweetDeck. It was too big in my screen, too annoying with its sound alerts, but then, ok: it got me! groups features became very handy and good to use Twitter for working tasks. I still think TweetDeck could benefit from some Twhirl features - specially after Seesmic acquisition, but can't see myself going back to it anymore.TweetDeck is my favorite one! =] - May
iam sticking with twhirl for now... - Stephan Linzner
@ninjamonk which tool did you develop? - Abhishek Kumar from feedalizr
i'm liking the new twhirl has some great features and looks like the tool for seesmic users for sure, tweetdeck would be my pick if i was following loads of people - Adam Gersbach
@Abhishek Kumar I did crowdstatus.com and have built an AIR client based on it but its still not ready as I am in an arms race :p - Darren Stuart
I use Thwirl 'cause they support Identi.ca, and I can use Identi.ca to post on twitter too. Otherwise i think TweetDeck is a better client for Twitter. - Norbert Evenich from twhirl
I use both. Twhirl allows both of my accounts open side-by-side and it's integration with Seesmic is VERY cool. Tweetdeck's layout has superior advantages - especially "sub-groups" and topics to follow. - Stan Dubin
Twhirl - Vishy
TweetDeck + real-time FriendFeed in a small browser window: best way to waste time on teh net. - bnoise
I like Tweetdeck but recently added a second Twitter account so now using Twhirl. If Tweetdeck had multiple account functionality (and Friendfeed connection) I would switch back. - Henk de Kruyff from twhirl
I'm using Friendfeed Realtime and Tweetdeck if I'm not on my Samsung NC10 Netbook. - Marius Quadflieg
http://twtpoll.com/r/jaqtnw still, more people use Twitter from the web... - Orli Yakuel
I love Twhirl, but it only lacks the groups of users feature of Tweetdeck. I love Tweetdeck, but it lacks the notifying popup for each twit of Twhirl. - americanm
Tweetdeck on my personal laptop (usage times vary - not always on). Last night app wasn't working right! - Susan Beebe
I prefer Tweetdeck. Don't ask me why, call it design or robustness but I like it better. - Carlos Lorenzo
Some sort of hybrid of the two would be perfect, until then I use both. - Iain Baker
I really agree with this :) - Liviu Lica
I can't decide, I like Tweetdeck because its nice and big and love the muliple colums, but I like twhirl because I can pick up Friendfeed, Seesmic and TWitarmy.... hard to decide - Kim Landwehr
I use tweetdeck because of the groups. I have a tab for my favorites and one for people in my country/language (Netherlands). I don't care much for other features like video or integration with other services. Ideally tweetdeck would have the possibility of one column with tabs and save groups and searches. - TobiasVerhoog.com
Robert, this goes back to your recent "real-time web" post: how do you gather together the outcomes of discussions on the various sites? Someone could post a great comment on the post at scobleizer.com, but it wouldn't show up on your FriendFeed unless you or someone else did an equivalent of a re-tweet. What's the preferred reply etiquette these days? - Paul Robertson
Tweetdeck, for the groups. - Chris Luckhardt
Twhirl for the simplicity and minimal space hogging. - Candy Schwartz
twhirl, far better - Richard A.
I had thwirl, but never really used it much. I did switch to tweetdeck a while ago (for the second time and have grown to like it a lot. However, I use mobile apps most (slandr/twitstat mobile). - Arne Hulstein
Tweetdeck is lifesaver by allowing groups. - Kenley Neufeld
I don't use any Twitter clients. I use Twhirl for Laconica - LouCypher
While my first choice is still the Web, for TwitApps I am a Twhirl Girl. - Martha
I would love to have all in real time browser windows. Think about FF meets socialthing - having friends not only from FF but also importing them from each service you have an account on. - bnoise
twhirl will always rule for me until someone else allows me to do ff in the same client. Although Tweetdeck has some great features, the future of client apps is clearly in supporting multiple networks, which only twhirl does, so it's no contest. - Todd Brunner from twhirl
If TweetDeck handled multiple accounts, I'd probably switch back. I like grouping folks so I'm not forced to unfollow those who leash bouts of Twitterrhea ;) - Carolyn
I switch between both depending on the mood of the day.. The one feature I am waiting on is the group feature in Twhirl.. then hard to judge.. - Bill Moore from twhirl
TweetDeck :) - Nicholas James
I love Twhirl. This may seem weird, but tried TweetDeck and it seemed too masculine for my tastes. - Julie Bovee Hill
Tweetdeck hands down - Jeff (the メガマクダジ of FF)
I still just use the web interface, or Cellity Tweeter or one of the WAP/mobile web-based clients, if I'm Twittering on my phone. - Tyson Key
TweetDeck. No doubt.I love groups and searches for monitoring things. Especially once I wrote backup/restore scripts so I could move settings between machines. - Scott Kingery
Twhirl, because A) I don't have the money/extra hardware to donate to using tweetdeck full screen, and it annoys me to horizontally scroll and B) because I find the group function useless. I don't want to see every last tweet I just want trends, so groups just add more columns to watch. Only thing I liked about tweetdeck was twitscoop, great for watching for events. - BCK
I rotate between Twhirl and the Firefox add-on, Friendbar. - Doug
DestroyTwitter is a really nice program as well.. and fast... - Jaap Willem from twhirl
Twhirl does FriendFeed, laconica, and seesmic too. Support bit.ly + api for stats. winner hands down. - Glenn Batuyong
Will have to try the new Twhirl, but if its anything like the old, then I will probably still prefer Tweetdeck's multi column interface - Peter Efland
Until Tweetdeck supports multi account I won't even consider leaving Twhirl - adolfo foronda
I just tried twhirl again and shut it off immediately and went back to tweetdeck. I like the groups in tweetdeck a lot. It allows me to follow a group more closely as it lowers the noise for that group. - Shamir Katsu
Alert Thingy just made a new release too. TC wrote them up. From the post, "...AlertThingy has added support for six more services: Ping.fm, Basecamp, Huddle, TwitPic, TwitterSearch, and Yammer. That makes for a total of 13 services, which already included Digg, Facebook, Flickr, Jaiku, TinyURL, Tumblr, and Twitter." - coldbrew
I use twhirl 4 multi-accounts and tweetdeck 4 main account. I also use 3 monitors running on the same computer & tweetdeck dedicated to one. - Moses Kpetigo
I like twhirl because it supports identi.ca as well as FriendFeed. If TweetDeck supported FriendFeed, I'd make the switch. Oh, multiple accounts - Twhirl does that, TweetDeck is lacking - Colin Charles from twhirl
Mind share on Twitter for both apps http://www.trendrr.com/a... Tweetdeck vs. Twhirl (Number of Matching Twitter Posts per Day) - mediaeater
tweetdeck is broken for me right now... not sure why. Only displays @replies and searches; NO feed and no DMs (not complaining there!) - Susan Beebe
I use both - andy brudtkuhl
twhirl. The Tweetdeck interface is too imposing. - Brendan Cooper from twhirl
sounds like the stupidest war ever - sean percival
They're both unfree. Don't use either of them. Use a free one. If there is no free one, then don't use one till there is. - Gregg H.
Gregg: what do you mean? I haven't paid for either one. - Robert Scoble
Agreed- both are free. Who is paying? I think twhirl is great for general use and multiple services (as you pointed out), Tweetdeck is good for those that really, really want (or need) to organize their stream. The interface is daunting however and I found Tweetdeck was slow to update. Now if you are talking iApps- Twitterfon FTW! I also love the "get more people to talk about it!" line- Scoble continues to tell it like it is. - Alyx from twhirl
Twhirl is much improved! Tweetdeck is too big and I don't like it. - PC Easy from twhirl
Robert: Free, as in freedom. But, I suppose if you're using a completely user subjugating OS that has no respect for your freedom like Mac or Windows, then one more little freedom killing app like this won't matter anyway. - Gregg H.
Tweetdeck it is for me ... sadly it just got borked and refused to work on my Ubuntu 8.10 desktop - Murali
TweetDeck is my choice as well. - Darrell Madore
falling in love with Alert Thingy... similar than Tweetdeck and more usable - Luca Filigheddu
Robert - interesting post but it doesn't sound like a war to me. Aren't both clients offering solutions to different problems? - Iain Dodsworth
Now, if AlertThingy would work on my machine, I'd give that a try, but unfortunately, it doesn't populate the window with posts on my end. :( - Alexander Kucera
I am still trying to figure out which one I like best, but for the most part I think twhirl is best for sending and TweekDeck is best for viewing. - Chris Patterson
I use them both but mostly use Tweetdeck. It would be great to have better picture submission with Tweetdeck and a reduced memory footprint as I have to shut it down regularly as it becomes sluggish. - Kirti Vashee
Just stumbled upon this post and want to add, that I found a way to sync TweetDeck groups betweed different machines using Dropbox and junctions. Just put the Appdata Directory of TweetDeck into Dropbox as a junction and on the other machine make a junction from the Dropbox directory into the Appdata directory. Quite geeky I know but that's how I keep different apps' settings in sync and it works well :) - Dennis R.

A little test for an article I'm writing: what's the best retailer to buy a Canon 5D MK II at?
will you accept negative comments too? - Conor Ogle
My bias is BH Photo in New York. What's yours? I know Loic ordered his from Amazon.com. Where would you go to buy a camera? - Robert Scoble
Conor: absolutely! - Robert Scoble
a local one that knows the prices on the web and adapt his prices based on that. If he is very talented and connected with the other photographer this a very goog thing, because he will get your old camera and sell it to somebody else. I got one like that in the area, but this is in Switzerland ;-) - Frédéric Sidler
If in NY, Adorama or B&H; helpful to buy from someone who understands cameras (and, esp lenses). If mail order, then either of above or Amazon (Amazon is return friendly, so low risk if issues arise) - Barry Graubart
I've used B&H since the early 80s. JR.com is excellent, also. - John Craft
I ordered from Adorama - website does not show stock levels. Two weeks of being told by surprisingly rude service staff they had no stock, I sourced one elsewhere. Successfully cancelled Adorama order and yet next day UPS arrived with Adorama stock. Strange, expensive experience. - Conor Ogle
I purchased my 5D MK II from Crutchfield. Normally I would buy from B&H, but they were not accepting orders in early December due to the backlog. I ordered one on Dec. 1, it delivered on Dec 28th. Great customer experience from Crutchfield. http://www.crutchfield.com - Francis Shepherd
I've had bad experiences with Adorama and Abe's of Maine, similar to Conor's. From Abe's, I had a "credit card verification" call, because I was shipping the SLR to a different address than my credit card. That was a day after the order, the next business day (a Monday), I got another call saying my AMEX didn't go through! With virtually no spending limit, I told them that's impossible.... more... - Paul Salzman from twhirl
(I meant $20 more than Abe's) and ordered with the same card, btw (some reason I couldn't edit the comment). - Paul Salzman
I bought mine from Adorama and had an excellent experience. I know people complain about stock levels, and I would too if I was on the wrong end of that waiting period but I ordered mine, and it was shipped the next business day. I've also purchased a lot of camera gear from Amazon and BHphoto.com, great experiences with both of them as well, just didn't have the 5D in stock when I wanted to buy. - Michael
i would look at Fry's Electronics. it is where i buy most of my stuff - Rodney Rumford
Rodney: I would never buy a camera like this from Fry's. First of all, they don't carry a lot of high end gear. Second of all, I've gotten too many things there that were previously opened. Third, I want to deal with someone who understands cameras at least a little bit. - Robert Scoble
Adorama or B&H. I give the edge to Adorama because their customer service is top notch. - Carlos Ayala
I don't mind waiting for items which are not in stock. What I don't appreciate is a website which is alone in NOT showing items are out-of-stock/backordered and then processes my order before contacting me after 2 days to advise stock situation. I prefer Calumet (certainly in the UK) though their online stock level information isn't perfect either. I don't need any sales service - I have chosen exactly what I want before I start my online transaction - I just want to pay and secure delivery. - Conor Ogle
well depends on how u define best.If all u care is the lowest price then there are several of those I bet.If you care bout if the product is genuine & service etc then there are a few of those. So the thing to ask really is What criteria to use to buy a specific product from one of many retailers. - Baba
I bought my Nikon D300 from 17photo.com; the main reason was while Amazon, Adorama, BH, Ritz etc said that they are backordering (because of popular demand and lack of the product at the very beginning) less-known stores like 17Photo were offering it "in stock" And as a Turkish guy living in Istanbul, I dared to order my D300 (and a couple of accessoires) from 17Photo (shipped to Portland) And I was very happy with the results - Ozgur Poyrazoglu
Right now, Adorama seems to be leading the pack in terms of getting 5D mk iis. I'm an affiliate for adorama, b&h etc and Adorama's not only selling the most, but they seem to be delivering within a few days even if their site says not in stock - please read my blog post http://bit.ly/lR5b where Adorama customer service contacted me out of the blue! They're working customer service issues around the web it seems. They're even posting on forums now. Good CS. - planetMitch
Update: even while typing my comment above, adorama contacted me via twitter to say: "@planetMitch We're getting them in every 10 days or thereabouts.helen.oster@adoramacamera.com. Adorama Customer Service Ambassador" No other photo vendor i know of is using Twitter/forums to help customers. - planetMitch
B&H and Adorama. - Thomas Hawk
Amazon, J&R or B&H. I used to get stuff from Adorama too but now they charge tax for both NY & NJ so now I only get the occasional small item from them that I can just pick up from their storefront. - ronin
B&H - since I'm local I can physically go there, and mail orders get to me in 2 days. I've bought a few things at Adorama. And if I want something on a Saturday I go to J&R (since B&H and Adorama are closed for Sabbath). - Tom Harrison
B&H is a great online vendor (for those of us not local). I hate to say it, but the brick and mortars like Keeble & Shuchat in Palo Alto, and Pro Photo in Portland have a tough road ahead. What I do not do is pick their brains and buy elsewhere however. If I go in those stores and poke around solo, I'm OK with buying elsewhere, but I only engage a salesperson when I know I'm about to give them some business. - Ryan
I am totally biased, but I recommend B&H :) - Shmully Litvin
this question could be construed as a way to get people to talk bout Vendors for free thereby advertising them.Maybe Scoble is finding a new revenue model to get more moolah for his Brand.Possible that the mention of these many vendors gets more traffic without actually pushing the vendor. Nice way to market. - Baba
Without question Hunts Photo. Gary Farber always come thru when you need your equipment no matter what the wait line is like. - Juan Pons
Rodney: you must live close to a "good' Fry's, because my shopping experience there has been consistently bad. Poor service after sale, unknowledgeable salespeople, horrible product-return experience and bad housekeeping. The only thing I buy at Fry's is components, when I need them in a pinch. Certainly would never buy anything high-end there. If Costco sold the 5D Mark II, I'd buy there before Fry's! - Paul Salzman from twhirl
Most of my electronics are purchased through B&H. I've also used J&R and Adorama, but always check B&H first. Now if only the economy could turn around, I would love to place an order for this item! - jcunwired
B+H: Closed on sundays, closes randomly for religious holidays, frequently out of stock. Crutchfield: Order once, they will spam you forever with catalogs. Adorama: Good. Abe's of Maine: good, Buydig.com: If it's in stock, it's cheaper. Most camera places will give you the BS "Credit card verification phone call" which is actually the "upsell you on accessories" call. I hate this about buying camera gear -- it never happens with computer gear. Stay away from Fry's for this sort of thing as well. - netik
I have a wonderful local store who I occasionally do work for (I do their monthly newsletters and geek stuff) http://www.acephoto.net Their website isn't much, but every person there is a pro photographer and he's been a Canon Authorized dealer for over 15 years and has a loyal following in the DC Metro area. - David Silvernail
Amazon. - Eric P
Did you get the input you were looking for ? Presume I can guess which article you are referring to ! - Murali
Robert, I use B&H and Amazon almost exclusively. Adorama can be OK, but I don't prefer them as their automated communications regarding order and shipment status sucks compered with Amazon and B&H. My only knock about B&H is their bizarre hours of operation due to their observation of the Jewish religion. - Jeff P. Henderson
I live in NYC so I'd probably walk over to Adorama or B&H with the price from their site in my hand - Bastard Operator From FF
Amazon or B&H. My current camera is from Circuit City (before this dying thing) because they had a crazy deal at the time. Otherwise, I trust the two I named. - Jordan Hofker
Online, I'd go with B&H. I've never been disappointed by their service. Local, I'd go to Keeble & Shuchat. I came an inch from putting myself on their wait list. Opted for a different Canon. - Rick Bucich
B&H, Amazon, or Adorama (in that order) - Matthew Hunt
Got mine from Amazon, the only camera dealer that 1) has never defrauded me and 2) doesn't turn off their online store on days I like to shop. - William Storage
Amazon all the way. It's their business to perfect the online retail model, and they are doing a very good job. If you have Prime, or a friend with it, you can have the camera to your door much quicker and cheaper than any competitors. - Tyler Brownfield
I went with Amazon for our 5D Mark II. Arrived in two days, as usual, free shipping. I'd also check with Dell, especially if you have a biz rep -- Dell can usually beat anyone's price if they like you (e.g. you order lots from them), but shipping may be a bit slower. Back when the 30D was new, I got two from Dell for about 20% less than Amazon's lowest price. - lilbyrdie
I live in NYC, so I buy outside NY. BeachCamera.com is usually cheapest. B&H is great if you don't live here though. - Tamar Weinberg

I can buy a decent Netbook for about $400. How much is the cheapest Mac again? (Keep in mind I have three Macs). - Robert Scoble
Because it works for me. XP is extremely stable. - Jeff P. Henderson
Solidworks and Pro Engineer do not run on OSX, windows only. - Jeff P. Henderson

I was playing with a friend's PC yesterday and it was a total nightmare - Bindu Reddy
Because I'm an expert at it, as opposed to any other OS. Linux is too obtuse and I don't own (and probably never will own) a Mac. - Alex Scoble
Most POS systems run on Windows only. Want to run a restaurant or bar on a different OS? Then you don't want to run a restaurant or bar. - Alex Scoble
Windows biggest problem is the backend. The OS architecture is just terrible, has been from day 1. But then I grew up on BSD - Deepak Singh
Not an answer to the main question but fits the discussion: A friend of mine always used Windows since 3.11. A few weeks ago he bought a cheap PC just for fun and installed Ubuntu. He never used Linux before and was totally overwhelmed how simple everything is and Linux updates itself and all the 3rd party software as well. You don't need to defrag or clean anything, just use it. - Dennis R. from twhirl
I used to boot into Windows fairly often until I learned how to make ie6 run under WINE. - Bruce Lewis
yeah i hear everyone, let me just repeat my experience. i loved windows in the 90s, hated apple. then i start using OS X (was forced to for work), and now I'm 100% the opposite. (though windows 7 does seem to be a big improvement based on my use so far) - MG Siegler
Personally, it's the games. Business? It'll be because there are loads of business apps that run on windows and the way you can get the OS to bend to however you want to as an administrator means it is extremely easy to deploy, maintain and control. Show me how you can deploy customised OSX to machines insitu across TCP/IP then lock them down based on a user or a computer account in AD without resorting to 3rd party apps. - alphaxion
price ... can upgrade just about every year, versus maybe once every 2-3 years for a Mac - Adam Ostrow
I have both a Vista laptop and an Ubuntu desktop. When one doesn't do something I need I use the other. Every OS has it's benefits and it's annoyances. So the more operating systems you have the better. Simple as that. - MarkCarras
When Apple opens up like Ubuntu and Windows the discussion can move forward. Right now the huge double standard people use to support Apple is tiresome and makes most discussion pointless (comes down to fan-ism). I can run VMs of Windows and Linux wherever I want, but Apple says no. I can run Windows/Linux on any machine, but Apple says no. I can discuss Windows programmins and until... more... - Alyx from twhirl
because it is cheap to build a SICK windows machine that will run circles around your mac. and my audio production software of choice won't run in linux - yes I will take the pepsi challenge with my custom built rig against any of your macs...4GB ram, dual 10K RPM raptors, quad core, the O/S is running as lean as possible...oh, and it cost me next to nothing to build from scratch. plus my case is cooler than the cheese grater :) - Adam Singer
on a related note, when will people stop assuming that their little horizon is what everybody else should have? it maybe a nightmare for you, but that does not mean that other people cannot work with. i have neither the need nor the desire to even come close to OSX. I might use in the middle some shells on linux but other than that, _I_ am perfectly fine with using my tools and setup efficiently. - Nicole Simon

I use Windows because it is the environment with which I am most comfortable and familiar, and it's never done me wrong (well...Windows ME was a frackin' nightmare, but we'll just whistle our way past that graveyard). I don't have enough time in my day to fiddle with a Unix-based system, and for the most part I can't afford to own a constant stream of Mac systems (I upgrade... more... - tinypants - Hagitha of FF

Well I try to be diplomatic a tad. :) I can fully understand where each OS fan is coming from, and I feel bad when I see the pointy barbs being slung around, when often times it just comes down to personal preference. Though it would be nice for there to one day be an amazing ability to cross-mojinate all OS'es so that there isn't such a blatant delineation between platforms. It can get... more... - tinypants - Hagitha of FF
I use windows XP, it's stable OS with all the software I need and good usability. Moreover, Windows 7 is supposed to be even better, so no reason to swtich. - Peter
Hmm, Windows is really "easier to fix"? It's probably one of the most internally opaque and arcane OSes in existence when it comes to troubleshooting it (I'm not counting lack of access to source code in this). For many issues, you end up having to resort to useless "Wizards" that barely solve the problem 85% of the time, reinstalling the whole OS just to "fix"/get around them, or modify the cryptic but sparsely documented Registry (or trust 3rd party tools not to screw it up or masquerade as malware)... - Tyson Key
I'm not anti-Windows either, and I support platform diversity (I won't yell "Linux! Linux!" at every turn, despite using it for over 3 years happily), and using whatever works best for any given need/user before anyone decries me. - Tyson Key
Windows is BY FAR the most supported and diverse platform, and is currently running on an overwhelming majority of the computers in the world. NOT running Windows on your desktop SEVERELY limits the scope of what you can actually use your computer for... While there are of course many alternatives to business standard applications available for OSX / Linux, far too often they simply don't compare in terms of features and usability. (I can think of A LOT of OSX apps that fit this description nicely..) - LarchOye
And for 64bit computing (which everyone should be doing by now) is WAY AHEAD on the Windows platform right now... As of the release of Adobe CS4 (which is 64bit on Windows only), the major *argument* for doing graphic design in OSX is completely deprecated. (Yes, Photoshop CS4 for OSX is limited to only using 4gb of memory) - LarchOye
There really are Windows-enthusiastics that really like their platform and who don't hate everything Microsoft does. I also love doing dev stuff with Visual Studio/.NET/Team System etc and nothing comes close to that experience on other platforms or they have to be built from pieces that don't always fit together so well. I love the fact that I can build Windows apps, web apps, large-scale distributed apps, mobile apps and RIA apps using the same language (C# in my case) and frameworks. - Jemm
my respect for windows comes from having to administrate a global network of about 1000 PC's. Are there things I hate about windows? Sure as hell there is! But there's things I love and hate about every other OS. When it comes to the server room, MS have so many tools that make it easier for me to look after those 1000 machines. As I said, I don't know of any comperable system to something like WDS in the Apple world - tho I have never looked after a purely mac network so maybe there is. - alphaxion
I suppose I continue using Windows due to familiarity and availability! - Joe Dawson
Media Center / XBox 360 is a superior home entertainment platform. - Thomas Hawk
I only use Windows at work, and only because it's required. I hate it. Though I have to say that my experiences with Win7 so far show that it might be getting better. - Joey Gibson
I'd argue that the AppleTV is the superior platform, at least in terms of home media. Particularly one that's been "boxee-fied". :) - Ryan
I'd argue that it isn't, especially not for the price / if it's not running boxee, and even if it is, it's still underpowered. - Richard Lawler
True, Chris...and you don't need Windows to feed media to it. There's software that runs on OS X that will do it. - Alex Scoble
you'll get live tv /dvr through your media center extender from OS X? - Richard Lawler
I thought the 360 run on a second generation of the win2k port from the original xbox.. if it doesn't what is it running? - alphaxion

I switched from the Mac to Windows for personal use in the late 1990s due to compatibility issues, and due to the fact that my home computer is a shared computer. It's like VHS. - Ontario Emperor
@Chris White - Oh I can. I haven't had the $$$ to upgrade my desktop, so it's been running the same install of WinXP for 8 years now. That install has been moved over 3 HDDs (Thank you Partition Magic), 2 graphics cards, +RAM, 2 sound cards, and 2 network cards. Yes, RTM is a superb app that deserves greater recognition. There is no sync program for my Palm Treo, but the mobile web app works great, and I also love the Gmail, Gcal, and iGoogle integration. - Andrew Carpenter from Alert Thingy
When i was looking for a todo list there was RTM or Hiveminder. RTM has more features but seemed harder to use and didn't have Hiveminder's braindump feature which I've found is great to just sit and hammer out tasks and then go back and organize them. - Bryan
I liek RTM but the UI is a bit week. Hiveminder has some awesome features, but the ui is also dense and its in (gak) Perl. So it wont scale. - Soulhuntre from twhirl

Did Delicious Lose Its Chance To Be FriendFeed? - http://www.centernetworks.com/delicio...
so any thoughts here people? - Allen Stern
oddly, I've never been a big Delicious user until I started using FF, so now I use it as a way to share things I find. It has undoubtedly though been damaged by Yahoo, where it has stagnated as others have innovated. The bigger question though: will Flickr share the same fate? - Duncan Riley
absolutely, great observation! - Jeremy Toeman
without question, never had a chance even if FriendFeed never was - Lou Paglia
They aren't the same thing and don't serve the same purpose IMHO. I love the two. - directeur from NoiseRiver
friendfeed is for explicit sharing, delicious is for myself, others can lookup if they are interested - Murali
seems like ff adds strong motivation to take action in services where you would not have in the past.. in order to bring the content back here. like every button in other social sites is now a ff share button - Travis Parsons
Delicious is much more about explicit action. Take for instance their resistance to auto suggesting tags in the beginning. Where FriendFeed is more about capturing the actions you take about the web and consolidating them without any extra ongoing effort on the part of the user. - Caleb Elston
the "social" aspect of delicious is greatly enhanced through the use of friendfeed (or in my case in addition to another site like diggo as well). as is, delicious has a big barrier in trying to make those "connections" between users personal in any way. - Cee Bee
Sometimes Delicious is useful - Igor Poltavskiy
friendfeed is very different from del.icio.us, here there are no tags and even if it did I would compare it to stumbleupon. Yet I don't use SU for bookmarking but rather for sharing so they're not in the same league - Dobromir Hadzhiev
